What a great testimony for mental toughness. Baseball is physical, yes. But it’s far more mental than anything else.

Excellent tips. Thanks for mentoring and helping these young baseball players for their positive mindsets. Intensity is key. Consistent intensity is even better.

My kid was invited to play as a replacement for a losing team that his friend asked him to join late. The entire team expected to lose until they put him on the mound. One of the opposing coaches was so freaked out that this team known for a low tier loser - suddenly had ace pitching that he started freaking out. His guys were mostly taking - waiting for a walk that never came. They just weren't making contact. At dusk someone in the distant parking lot pulled in and slowly unloaded. "TURN OFF THOSE LIGHTS" he roared out suddenly. I think the kids from both teams learned volumes from that one comment.

Yogi Berra said it too: Perhaps his most famous of all: "It ain't over 'til it's over."
    • "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical."

Losing culture happens to good teams and good coaches. Many factors go into it. No one knows what the future holds. Things can turn around when you have a consistent on the field mind set

Sometimes you just have to play that one kid that has not been on the mound yet. Maybe that kid that drifts around in the outfield and is maybe a bit of a goofball. That one is 100% on the coach.

Currently I am playing on a seniors baseball team and working at baseball to make the high school team. Like your college team, my little league team is in a state of "losing culture". Today we had a really bad game, we made many errors and our bats were cold. The team is "The Baltimore Orioles" who have only won one out of three games, and so far, and we have slowly been getting worse mentally and physically. The head coach this year who is also my Stepdad really wants to put a stop to this losing streak. He will be introducing punishments for errors. Such as a lap, or pushups for the person. I wonder if this will be effective to get in their mind and really help them focus on being better.
Is there anything that you recommend (or anyone else reading this comment) that can help a losing team get better mentally or physically?
    -Thanks

definitely NOT punishments - that will do the exact opposite and send moral further into the toilet. Encourage each other and work hard.
