- Amazing Wheelchair Accessible Kitchen And House Renovation. You Won't Believe its the same house! After waiting 10 years. I finally have a new wheelchair accessible kitchen. None of this content is sponsored. Everything was paid in full by us. Our kitchen was designed and brought from Whickes, and the installation was by JG & JR Langridge who were amazing, and specialise in accessible kitchens and bathrooms. The flooring was done by Hanura who were amazing too.

After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. The wheelsnoheels message is “so no one has to feel alone.”
I have lots of interesting disability videos, a lot of videos on how to cope with a disability and living life in a wheelchair, wether you are a girl boy woman or man. i have some paraplegic exercise videos, and advice. its important to keep your fitness levels up as much as possible as this can when physically and mentally with depression.

What a great job they did on your kitchen! We will be moving in a few years and planning on doing an accessible kitchen in our new house. We are living in the US and I don't have a clue on how to start. How did you vet the people who did your remodel; how did you begin to find a contractor and designer?
Holy cow! What a kitchen... we all wish we had one. Realistically, I have spine damage ... no surgery yet... We'll see what the doc says. I'm making adjustments to my cabinets so I can continue to cook in future years. Thanks for your enthusiasm even with wheel chair moves! Pam

I'm so happy for you! I'm disabled myself and love to cook but I have to rely so much on others to help me make food these days that seeing a kitchen like this almost makes me emotional because I dream of having a kitchen just like this one day where I could gain back so much more independence to cook mostly by myself. :)

First of all I have to say Thank you! Thank you. I just come across you and your video's today! I have been in a wheelchair for nearly 13 years now and I never thought of looking on-line for clothes to wear while in a wheelchair until today. I've been obsessing about what will I wear to my Granddaughters 4th Birthday party coming up next Sunday . I'm so glad that I finally searched and it lead me to you! Now finally on to about this video. Oh my gosh I just love it and so happy that this turned out so lovely for you. I especially love that cupboard that the shelves come down so that you can reach items, and the oven is so awesome! I could continue on and on about it all but I will limit myself to mention just one more love and that is the kitchen sink and work area, to me that is just so amazing! I have lived in my current house back in the days when I could still walk so really the only accessible area I have is the ramp and deck to enter my house. I don't ever see my financial situation improving to be able to make common ,simple life a little more accessible to well... live.
Thank you again for making these videos, seeing your happiness over flowing in this one and your positive outlook in the others I have watched so far, really added a ray of light and joy to my day. I look forward to watching more.

wow! wow. oh wow! look there wow! oooo wow! Sooooo good and about time right?! Does your counter move up and down? I thought I heard mention of this. Which would help when Sean/Shaun/Shawn (sorry) does the dishes and cooks on the stovetop. My counter is at standard height and my husband wishes it was even higher as his back aches doing dishes. But he still does them! :)
No the counter is statick. But shaun is ok with his back.

That cupboard pull down thingy is amazing. I already have a pretty good kitchen and right now I really wouldn't want to lose any low down space, I use every single one of those for storage. That means that a lowered counter area seems "nice" but very low on my list of priorities, I've just got so used to sitting side on. Washing up is also one of the tasks I basically never do, so I don't need sink access, I can manage filling the kettle, rinsing one item etc. but I can't do repeated rotational movement, so that's a task I concede I need help with and thus as a single person I use a full size dishwasher, which means I have a dozen of everything, plates, bowls etc, so they take up more storage space. Yikes it really is a complex optimisation problem.
This is gorgeous, I live in a totally non accessible apartment and would love to be able to have this!

didn't know about the hide and slide!!!Have Myasthenia gravis and still can be up, am 6'1" but possiblity will need chair in future. Covid put the brakes on rehabbing th big house which is good as trying to figure out how to plan things so can decay in place.
They do them same fridge things in b&m and a cheeper looking version in poundland made of more basket like plastic

I’d love to know how you made the sink and hob work for a disabled and non disabled person, without needing a high low counter.
This is excellent Gem. So pleased for you. In the future when I get my own place I’ll have to get contacts from you as to who did this for you, although I’m in Northern Ireland. I’ve always been told by ableists that it’s not possible or nobody would even think I could get something like this. Edit: Oh, never mind about the contact. You said at the end of the video 😂

I don't know if this is a thing in the UK, but in the US, there is usually an insulated wrap that goes around exposed pipes under the sink to protect your legs from being burned by hot pipes.
There is under the sink, bu the pipes are no where near my legs. :)
Well those pull down shelves are neat. I think putting the sink and hob on a moving surface might of worked better, what I mean is have it like a standing desk where you can move them up and down to different heights and use flexible pipes.

Wait, it rains in the UK?🤣🤣🤣🤣😘😘😘🌧🌧 I can see how the floor makes a difference for your wheelchair. It looks great, definitely better for you guys to move around. 👏👏👏👏👏👏 All the little things you don’t realize someone needs in their house, if you’re not in a wheelchair/disabled.
I have a flat that is quite long end to end with a carpeted hallway. I'm not ashamed to use my smart drive indoors! There are some tasks where it helps me be close to hands free (e.g. taking a bucket of water to the balcony, moving a basket of laundry, but mostly it's saving my shoulders on that carpet push)! The mirror image flat has laminate floors so I never need it in there and even the more hard wearing carpets in the communal areas are an awful lot easier. When I got my smart drive it was supposed to be for outdoors and big shops if I was tired, not something I use all day everyday! Oh well, it really has been a game changer for me.

Who makes the pull down wire shelves in that upper cabinet?
Ours was brought from whicks. But many kitchen shops do them. I also think you can get them on ebay or amazon. xx

I'm so jealous. Can I ask what you would do if there were 4 meters between your sink and stove? How would you get hot pasta from the stove to the sink? I dropped a hot pot because I only have a weak left wrist to carry it with as my chair needed steered with my right hand. There are no cabinets to slide it across. What shade of blue is that kitchen? I love it. So happy for you.

Wow. Absolutely fantastic! It's certainly been worth the wait and all the mess that's inevitably created. I noticed the plastic moulded chairs at your workstation. They're just like the ones that my parents have as dining chairs in their kitchen. Yours probably aren't vintage though. Take care 👍 ☺

You might want to try a company that styles you. There are at least two in the UK, Stitch Fix and Lookiero. I told them I used a wheelchair and thus jackets need to be shorter and a whole host of other things. They've sent me some great items, the first denim jacket I've ever owned in my life and a pair of shorts that I'd never have found on my own are the ones that are particularly notable as being things that I had trouble buying as a wheelchair user.
