Happy birthday to my iMac 14.3🎉 up for another 10 years.
    Sonoma is running fine.
After replacing the hdd with sata ssd and upping memory to 16Gbyte in 2018 it is even faster than when i bought it new!
Thanks to guys who do this intensive oclp work for a beer or coffee!🎉🎉🎉
I play my Civ 5 and Rome Total games for a decade now, next to some office work. That machine just won't stop.

Great video, as always. The thorough explanation is greatly appreciated. My Mac Mini is on the latest Ventura (before yesterday’s update) and OCLP 1.2.1, so I followed the advice and updated to 1.3.0 before doing the Ventura update. Something has gone wrong though as after the OCLP install to disk, and subsequent root patching, the restart has now failed with the white progress bar stuck at about a third of the way across.

Hey Mr.Macintosh, this was the first time I caught one of your videos (saw it as already have OCP and looking for something else) and wanted to tell you how amazed and impressed at the clarity and relative simplicity you brought to what many may feel is all smoke and mirrors! Wow! How brilliant the OCP developers are to come up with such a slick, foolproof system. Your explanation of it made me appreciate what I probably would not have noticed. Subscribed on the basis that, if your other contents is even half as good it’s worth watching. Thank you man 🙌

I installed OCLP 1.3.0 and then installed Sonoma 14.2 on my mid-2011 iMac. The installation seemed to be proceeding well, then it took me to a screen that showed a mouse, but without Bluetooth support. I used a USB mouse to continue, and then was taken to the Restore options. I closed that without making a selection, rebooted, and held down Command-Option-P-R on startup to reset NVRAM. Upon rebooting Bluetooth was restored and the installation proceeded to a successful conclusion.

On a 2014 Mac Mini running Sonoma 14.1.2 and OCLP 1.2.1, I had zero issues upgrading OCLP to 1.3.0, updating OpenCore, applying the root patches and rebooting. A day later, I upgraded to Sonoma 14.2, rebooted, reapplied the root patches, and rebooted, again without issue.

So here's a important note. On my Mac Pro 2010 5,1 I did the initial updating through system settings and software update. It got the new KDK and everything downloaded and ready to go with the upgrade to 14.2. But once installing during that method on this Mac Pro, it stalled and just did not go through properly where I had to go into my Ventura SSD and create a USB installer for the 14.2 update. Once that was created and a bootable USB was made the process went through no problems with the 14.2 update. All patches were on. Them once in Sonoma 14.2, Bluetooth and Air drop did not work. So ad to reapply the root patches again and after reboot Bluetooth and Air drop were working once again. My suggestion is just to make a USB installer rather than doing the update via settings.

One of the things I've learned about upgrading MacOS on an iMac 2013 and white Macbook 2009 is that programs like Numbers and Pages need to be installed on Ventura I had an old HDD for the Macbook which still had an old version of Numbers, and when I tried to upgrade Numbers I got the message from the App Store that I needed MacOS 13 (Ventura) before I could do the upgrade. The furthest MacOS I could go was High Sierra which is where I am now. Lots of gotcha's to this process.

These videos are really great. I couldn't have made my Macs run so well. I did the update of OpenCore before updating. After, both OPLP and Sonaoma, Safrai was eating up all my CPU cycles. I deleted history ( hate doing that now I have to find all my passwords). Turns out I had my only tab group with Instagram and Facebook causing this. I deleted the tab group, and it returned to normal. Activity monitor was showing when a Safari window was open the former tab group was cosnuming all CPU cycles. After deleting this, the separate URLs run as expected. I haven't yet tried a new tab group.

I am one of those affected by the recovery system not working, but the problem may be bigger. Details:
    - Macbook Pro early 2015 16Gb Ram, Intel i7, MacBook 12,1.
    - Was running OCLP 1.6.1, Sonoma 14.1.1 quite happily.
    - Wanted to update uo 14.1.2, decided to update to OCLP 1.6.2 first.
    - OCLP installed ok, did the EFI and kernel patch ok, went into its reboot cycle. Or so I thought- just as the Mac was rebooting, a dialog briefly popped up warning me that the EFI and kernel patches were a mismatch between 1.6.1 and 1.6.2. I couldn't stop the reboot that OCLP initiated.
    - on reboot, got to the Apple logo but the boot progress bar stopped at about 40%. Nothing I could do.
    - after I tried everything including EFI boot and reinstall Sonoma from the boot picker thats. no progress.
    - I created a new install USB on another iMac using OCLP 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 to both Sonoma 14.1.1 (which was what was installed, and then 14.1.2, no progress- Installl appears to run ok, but fails to boot during the second auto reboot during install. That is despite the USB installer being targeted at MacBook 12,1 and had fresh installer downloads from Apple through OCLP. That is weird- a seemingly successful Sonoma reinstall, but won't fully reboot afterwards.
    - Atempts to carry out a Time machine recovery after an internet recovery reboot failed because the time machine could not mount that MacBook's backup (see below)
    - online (via internet data recovery / terminal) data recovery tools from 2 different data recovery tools both showed that my data was intact on the SSD Macintosh HD container, but that there was no OS, but a second disc name UPDATE was now present and contained a pile of directories msutargetcontroller-mount XXX, a few empty to nearly empty folders and a few files eg nvram.plist and log files. Weirdly the Update drive mounts as a separate drive the full size as Mackintosh HD. /dev mount funnies?
My drastic solution so far is to:
    - remove the MacBook SSD and insert it into a new OCW Envoy Pro 1A and examine it on another Mac. The data and structure is intact, so can be recovered. As explained below, the time machine backups were not available, so this original copy is vital. The Envoy drive also mounts the UPDATE drive which Disc utility reports as the full SSD as well as the Mackintosj HD partition.
    - I will install an M.2 SSD mounted via a Sintech adapter on the MacBook (I've used them before- recommended!), and install everything afresh.
    - Bought a newer MacBook Pro Silicon ver, but it could not recover the older MacBook Time Machine backups (see below).
! Ventura and Sonoma have turned on Time Machine encryption by default in the Time Machine settings. This means that if you lose your Mac, you cannot restore to a new Mac. I use a 3Tb Apple Airport Extreme Time machine and its been bombproof as a way to recover a crashed MacBook/iMac over the years. Knowing your Time Machine device passwords is not enough- the backup is most likely double encrypted- once by the Mac, and again by the Time Machine. As far as I can find, and tried many ways, only the original Mac can get the data. Dunno what happens when the original MacBook is eventually restored with a fresh SSD and OS- I have yet to find out.
    Lessons learned:
    - OCLP does glitch. This has been my worst experience since I started using it about 3 years ago. Be cautious even though OCLP is now much easier to use and understand.
    - Turn time machine encryption at the Mac- it's now enabled by default. A stupid idea to only make a backup set available to the original Mac. Once turned off, I understand that Time then goes your backup set and decrypts the encrypted whole set which will make those backups available is you need to recover to another Mac.
    - Dont trust anything.
    - I probably missed another recovery option?
A different question to put to the OCLP community: has the APFS driver in OCLP been updated to a version that supports a Fusion drive? I'd like to update my iMac to a new MacOS so I can run software that after recent year's OS updates won't run the latest versions of software that require a newer OS. I've asked this question before and even on the latest OCLP, the EFI/disk selector still shows both the fusion drive's SSD and HD, but not the fusion drive itself. Deciding which EFI to update with OCLP, or both, is unclear- forums, Reddit etc provide no clarity or certainty. OCLP 1.2.2 still hashes 'problemm". If I get it wrong on either drive, the synthesised fusion drive is toast. Any authoritative ideas?

12:29 After listening to you saying no problem with 2012 mac mini, I tried it on mine. Installing OCLP 1.3.0 was fine. Then I tried updating Sonoma from 14.0 to 14.2 and eventually got a black screen. From Disk Utility the Startup SSD disappeared. What left was the Macintosh HD. I need to take out the SSD from the MacMini Server 6,2 and use another Mac to First Aid the partition and Erase it, put it back and restore from Time Machine backup. I found something strange! TM used to back up both internal drive. But now obviously OCLP EFI booted up drive did not have TM backup. Only the non-Oclp drive in the TM backup. It could be a big issue if my observation is confirmed.

Tried all command line tricks and KDK insertion. OS recovery failed with "OS major version unrecognized" error. Attempting updating OS to 13.6.2 failed also, "The volume cannot be downgraded" error. Swapped SSD, clean install 13.6.2 failed Migration Assistant refused to allow migration to an older OS. But it wasn't. It was only through swapping SSDs and clean installing Sonoma 14.2 that boot was restored and Migration assistant allowed migration from prior disk.
Lesson learned for me - again. NEVER trust ANY update/upgrade, seemingly trivial or not, OS or OCLP.

I am new to this and I plan to upgrade my Air 2011 to OCLP Monterey. Are there any new changes or post-install I have to do in the current OCLP 1.3.0? Also, Do I need to bother with the KDK issue? I do not know what it is or what system it affects. Thank you

Thank you for another excellent video. I need some help with my MacBookPro 11,5 from 2015. Ventura 13.6.1 was running well including Parallels 19.2.0 for Windows 11. After OCLP 1.3.0 I decided to update to Sonoma 14.2. The update using USB went well and Sonoma is running as expected without any major issues. However Parallels is now only working partially. The start menu of Windows 11 only shows icons without any text. Dropdown menus also icons without text. EDGE is black screen. However one old Windows 7 program is running ok. I guess it has to do with the drivers for the GPU´s ? Do you have any suggestions?
For info I have tried installing fresh copy of Sonoma 14.2 on an external SSD, installed fresh Parallels 19.2 and with same negative result. Also tried reinstalling Parallels on the internal drive as well as installing again Windows 11. No luck. Is it possible to transfer drivers working in Ventura to the Sonoma OS? And how?

Thank you for great tutorial. My PRO 5.1 works fine with Monterey installed with one "problem". OCLP is updated on version 1.3.0. When turned on, after few minutes there is one OCLP POPup with warning that is version 1.3.0 installed, but boot version is 0.6.8. Did I make something wrong? How can I fix this?
Second question is that Monterey is giving me upgrade on 12.7.2 version. Can I make this without OCLP or not?

I did it and followed all the steps like on you video (only 1.3.0 update not Mac OS) (still on first Sonoma public version (not beta)) and now the machine is stuck on boot. Apple logo and progress bar stuck at 1/5... What to do now? I tried recovery, safe mode, it's as if nothing works...
    Please help if possible.

If it’s ok with you wondered if you could clarify a couple of points for me (and anyone else wondering too)
First, are you saying the latest OCLP allows legacy AMD GPU’s to work ? And if so on all or which OSX versions? Am just upgrading an old mid 2011 iMac with some new hardware, including the highest spec GPU natively supported (without extra work) which is AMD HD6790M 2GB - So if it won’t work and defaults over to CPU for graphics it’s not worth me doing that upgrade, or leave it stuck on High Sierra.
Second, do you know if OCLP can provide a route to install software which check to see if your Mac has an M1 CPU or later? There’s no reason the software in question should not work on an Intel CPU but site won’t let me download it without 🤬 Any help much appreciated 👍

I have a 2012 Mac Pro and installed Mac OS 14 using Open Core 1.0 on a separate internal HD. It worked fine. I recently wanted to update so I downloaded the latest Sonoma updater and Open Core Legacy Patcher 1.3. I started over and built the patcher to a reformatted USB installer drive and everything was normal. When I attempt a reboot to the EFI boot loader on my USB stick, it will not show any boot options, just a black screen. Any ideas why I can't get the boot loader to mount?

I don't understand this video. Was my install no good? Aside from not playing UA-cam TV in Safari, all seems fine.

I reinstall it and the copy of the app that should be in the library isn't there anymore. Why is it doing that? I did a build and install on my macs hard drive and once it rebooted the app is gone.

If you want to update the OS, do this through OCLP "Create Mac OS Installer" button. Download the OS version you are after, then use OCLP to flash it to USB stick.
Back up your data 3 different locations before attempting update.
System Settings is unaware of OCLP.
