I think a lot of people don’t stress how important a good mindset is before the test. I had gotten a 29 twice in a row, and didn’t study ONE bit before my last test, but I went in treating it like a war and that I needed to attack every question with relentless effort because everything was on the line. My parents had yelled at me the night before because they were pissed I didn’t study, and I used that as fuel. I was hungry to succeed. And I got a 32 EDIT: I found this after a while and wanted to share another tip that helped me. At some point during the test you may begin to panic because you don’t know something or feel like you’re going to fast/slow etc. If this happens to you just remember to breathe and do the best you can with what you have. Stay calm and muddle through and you’ll be fine, the worst thing you can do is go bananas.
My parents have literally been making me take practice tests everyday and I after taking it a few weeks ago, I got a 33. Honestly, getting a 36 will put their hearts at rest than mine. *sigh* Thanks for the tips tho!
I used all of these recommended subject-specific prep books for the ACT too. They are really in-depth and offer tons of practice, really drilling you and forcing you to increase your score in those sections. As she said, its best to allocate about a week or 2 for each book, so it's hard to do a lot of this prep last minute. Also, I didn't study science at all because I did good in it for one of my tests, and then in the next test my science score went to from a 33 to 27, so I purchased "For the love of ACT Science" which helped me bring my act science score up to a 35. Overall, I got a 35 from the fall test in my senior year and I'm really happy.
My ACT is tomorrow morning. I DID AMAZING. atleast a 22. I did SOOOOO goooood. so good. I passed my ACT tommorow. Flying colors. I made everyone so proud!!

Go over your weaknesses and practice pacing yourself And in math, it’s best to know simple multiplication facts to avoid spending time picking up your calculator:)
this might be too late but all i can say is TAKE PRACTICE TESTS!! People who get low scores like that normally get them not because they don't understand the material but because they don't understand what the questions are asking them and because of poor time management. And the main way to fix those is through practice tests! There a bunch of free ones you can find online and the ACT makes a book with a ton of them in it. Basically just take a ton of those to get used to the pacing and overtime you'll realize that a lot of the questions are really similar and not difficult!!
Get inside the ACT makers brains. Usually they are looking for something specific and once you pick of those patterns, you will be golden! Best of luck :)

I just finished my freshman year and I take my first ACT on june 12 I am trying to get into a public residential high school which is litterer a school for hella smart kids. I am nervous.
@@curtleighwidemon I am thinking about it. I applied for one of the best (private non-residential) schools in my state and passed the exam with top scores. But I didn’t win the lottery pick so I couldn’t go. Now, I’m stuck with deciding to reapply, apply for a different school, or stay at my school.
I got into Louisiana Tech with a 21 on the act and I’ve met a guy who got rejected from there with a 30 so I’m proud I got in I had a good gpa and only took it 1 time due to COVID. LaTech might not be the best but it’s the best in state for me and I’m not leaving Louisiana due to TOPS lol
When you get older, the vast majority of you realize this was mostly BS. If you are born with a lot of money, you will get that college degree anywhere with no effort. Those without can of course do a little better if you study hard on this rat maze game they have made, but will often be bumped out by the 1% if you get too close to the sun. Many of you are to young to know this, but people figured this out quite a while ago. Protested it even with students with college degree's, 4.0gpa, ect and no career or job. What I am trying to say is, you do not need to kill yourself with these things. What you need is practical skills. Practical and useful in current markets and knowing where to apply these. How many jobs are looking for people who can do double integrals and vector formula's in thier sleep? Not many and most do not pay anymore so. Bill Gates did not get rich from college, he dropped out. I know this will seem impossible cause you have all been told one thing and here is a guy telling you the opposite(I didn't ether). But it will come full circle. Wish you all luck and good health, the future is more unstable then ever.
I’ve done those workbooks over the summer before junior year, but what would you recommend me doing to get in the groove of taking the test? A weekly practice test?? Thanks so much.
Yes, I should recommend a weekly practice test. There are mock ACT timers on the Internet. You can also have someone enforce time limits. I am an ACT tutor. I received a 2400 on the SAT, the highest possible score at that time. Are you interested in my services? Basically my method is to discuss strategies. Then I email a recent test. You take it observing time limits. I email you your score and the questions you missed. You retry the missed questions. Then we go over the questions you are still unable to do and discuss strategies. We keep repeating the process until you surpass your target.

No offense but like that's the most stereotypical dream college ever. I would aim towards Columbia or Stanford, which are still Ivies but aren't used in every single TV show and movie.
None of those are my dream college though. I hope to go to Carnegie Mellon
@@yourfriendlysubaruoutback Hello. I’m thirteen now. I’m working towards Stanford since Harvard is directed towards law and it isn’t my main goal.
@@fronkwonk oh well good for you!
I registered for ACT, but never studied for it. I really just want to see if I can do ACT better than SAT after I study some.
me the night before taking the ACT for the second time lmao
My ACT's are tomorrow and god knows that I ain't ready-
haley. thank you so much for this advice. Despite these lame ah comments saying "it didn't work" or "what i did was yadada yadda yadda" you come here with real and helpful advice. kudos!
I'm currently a junior and will be taking
the act next month... Hope everything goes well on that day:)
Sometimes I get lazy to study but someone once told me that if I don't study, mostly likely I won't pass the act... So I just have to be determined each day and tell my self that I can do THIS♡♡...
Hope you did well! I am studying this summer to improve my ACT
science timing kills me
yeah that really got to me on one of my tests. i ran out of time so i forgot to do 2 whole pages for science rip

Me when the ACT is in 5 days with terrible math and skimming skills: 😀😀😀
came across this just in timeee. taking an act thats being offered to all sophomores for free this april.. been too anxious about it even knowing it can change these next 2 years.
I’m a freshman who’s trying to prepare for the practice act because I want to get a perfect score the first time i take it. I know it’ll be difficult, but I know I can do it if I try hard enough and study.
Imao me too. Hopefully we both can get a perfect score but most likely I won’t cus I’m really dum but I do hope the best for you.
Btw when are you going to take your act?
@@sizo4654 i’m planning on taking it next year in july. also im sure you can get a good score if you try
@@bmk_is_a_nerd oh u have plenty of time, but I hope for the best of u when u take it. Thanks for the motivation tho
you can do this, keep working hard bro
should I get the 2nd edition for the English book or the 4th edition
i dont think it really matters. most of the material is probably the same!
Watching this less than 12 hours before the ACT
Hey! Do you recommend the act math book you used? I’m taking my ACT at the end of September and I’m trying to decide whether to buy the book you used or the college panda act math book. I also normally score around a 28-30 on the math section and I want to know if you think the book you used would be helpful for me to raise my score.
i really liked my book because it gave me test taking strategies as well as practice problems! but honestly, either one is probably fine since i feel like most prep books are prettyyy similar. hope this helps!
haley kang thank you!
the way ur intro SENDS me
🤧🤧
Taking my tests LITERALLY tomorrow as a senior, wish me luck! :)
how’d you do?
This lady saved my whole career
last year i said i’d study, now it’s in 6 days and i haven’t studied at all
I've got a little under a month to study for my ACT (I'm a senior and I've never taken it-). I'm gonna use these tips and update w my score!! Wish me luck :))
How did it go?
@@koshielarbi-siaw9485 It went well! I made a 22 and I'll be retaking it for a higher score in July!
taking the act in a few months ! also starting it kinda late (fall of senior year, same as u... kinda worried eek) b/c of covid which is a huge bummer but i'll reply to this comment with my score when i get it !! thank u for the advice hehe

I just finished my freshman year and I take my first ACT on june 12 I am trying to get into a public residential high school which is litterer a school for hella smart kids. I am nervous.
Haha. SAME- I’m in my freshman year of high school. And just took the ACT on June 12-

@@curtleighwidemon It’s a tell- as long as you tell me what made too? :) Other than that want are your extracurriculars? If you’re willing to share.
@@Tacraft Wait are you also trying to get into a residential high school??
@@curtleighwidemon I am thinking about it. I applied for one of the best (private non-residential) schools in my state and passed the exam with top scores. But I didn’t win the lottery pick so I couldn’t go. Now, I’m stuck with deciding to reapply, apply for a different school, or stay at my school.
"you have more time before junior year in the summer" me whos doing the ib program 😃
how did you get a 36. i am so jealous.
haha a lot of luck and tries
Hey! Can you give a link for those books or where I can find them? :)

Me studying at the last second for ACT's. 😭😭😭
when u have 3 weeks left of summer and you haven't started studying...
girl I needed this over the summer
You don’t need money until you’ve graduated college. You can get into college with no money
Just put all 3 books in my Amazon cart! Will be ordering this week
Haley can you help. I have focus trouble when I study for ACT. Is there anything i can do?
Thanks for this I’m almost 30 and found this quite helpful
My parents are making me study right now and I am in 8th grade. My brother did the same thing and got a 35.
I got an 18 my first time and she wasn't satisfied with a 34... imagine
I had no idea that SATS and ACTS were a thing until a month ago. Now here I am a night before taking a pre-ACT test…
