Hi. I'm so amazed by your paper mache masterpieces. They make me feel very happy. I'm also a sculptor. I'm still exploring different mediums and i think paper mache is a fantastic medium. You inspired me, thanks.
Really great job! So life-like.. Nice tribute to the character. I like the skull idea, as well as the whole technique. Besides, Quasimodo is one of my favorite characters. Grotesque, but a kind and gentle soul. Let the mask making begin! Tis the season.
I can't imagine the years of practice you spent to get your skill-level up so high. WOW You clearly know what you're doing You are an inspiration for never quitting, for turning to your love every chance you get. Keep doing what you like to do and you will become very skilled at it
I finally found my passion! I want to incorporate the masks into my home decor. May be a challenge for a newbie to art and diy projects. Subscribed instantly!!!! Thank you!!!!!
I love this mask might have a go myself at something like it. Thanks for the inspiration and the lesson on how to. Always entertained and inspired by your tutorials.
this was far from a wasted 13 minutes. very much drawn to this woman's talent of bringing a face into being from clay, her hands and a few simple tools
I started looking how to make tissue paper grass mats for vbs... found this also and can not wait to start a few of these! looks so fun... of course I have to get VBS done first. :) ty for posting
I'm always inspired by your creativity. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. One tip: olive oil can go rancid but if you use mineral oil, you won't have the problem. Looking forward to more of your tutorials. Thanks again.
This answers my question about making a hollow head for my Ventriloquist puppet! Thanks! BTW - I can also see how one could put a final coat of epoxy resin on both the inside & outside of a shell such as I'm looking to make, so that it becomes very durable - like the high end professional puppets the people like Jeff Dunham & Terry Fator use! Translation - you are saving me thousands of dollars by sharing these techniques, Jonni! I can't ever thank you enough! This makes possible what is otherwise inaccessible to me! I also plan to make regular sculptures out of this material & cover them in epoxy for outdoor display!
@@UltimatePaperMache I'll be sharing their construction on my Facebook page, Jonni! I'd love to connect with you further! The ol' gears are churning away to come up with a name for my Puppet Business & when that comes along, I'll start a FB Puppet page! I sent the patterns I got from you to the library to be printed. I called to ask them how they're handling such things during the Covid fiasco & they gave me an email address to send them to. I don't own a printer. I may need to go ahead & invest in one.
amazing peace of artwork. The painting in layers really added a realistic touch to it. thanks for sharing. You channel is really great can't wait to see what else you do.
I just finished a mask without watching any tutorials, and then now I find your video.. (: I used wet Viva paper towl strips to get all the details. Thanks for sharing this tutorial!
I love your projects SO much, I think I found your website a year ago for an outdoor elephant paper mache and now I'm finding your videos for halloween! so so talented, my favorite tutorials by far!
your so amazing!!! just l thank youove your stuff i used to make masks and sculpters as a kid ww/paper machete but nothing like your cool sculptures im older now but these things are great to keep busy with ill let you know how it comes out
I hope you'll show us some of your new creations when they're done. You can do that on the Daily Sculptors page on my site. www.ultimatepapermache.com/daily-sculptors-group-page
have you ever considered : taking your clay sculpture , rubbing vasaline over it , getting plaster and plastering it up , then take off the plaster cast and pour in some liquid latex , let it dry and then have a cool latex mask
Tardis Mixer I have not thought of that. Mostly because I don't sell masks - I just make them for the fun of it. However, I've seen some amazing latex masks, and it does look like a lot of fun to do. Maybe I'll put that on my to-do list.
OMG you are my new favorites person!! I loved this video!!!!! Thank you for sharing this excellent tutorial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to make some but I also really loved watching you make this! Do you have more videos?
@Ultimatepapermache Can I use something other than the blue shop towels? I live in a really small town and blue shop towels are very expensive. And I dont want to use newspaper... to stiff for me. Thanks
The one you're thinking of is called *"The Masks".* It's the one where the dying rich man makes his ungrateful/greedy heirs wear grotesque masks for a night in order to get their inheritance. ...or you could also be thinking of *"Eye of the Beholder"* where the "normal" people have ugly faces.
Wonderful...beautiful....One of the Best tutorials I have seen. Easy to understand. Precise Language. I am also doing the skull route with the blue towels and elmers and plaster And the elmers and joint compound. Good to see we are alike. Keep up the great work.
This sounds awesome! I made a Captain Hook mask in a similar way, but used Liquid latex. I want a harder, smoother mask this time round so I'm happy I stumbled upon this video!!
Dear Jonni, Thank you very much for this video. Your mask work is amazing. I would like to know what kind of material is that blue you used in the mask? Thanks
Yes, you can make paper mache the traditional way, with paper strips and paste. You still need to create an armature, of course, but be creative and use things you have around the house, like crumpled foil or paper and masking tape. Have fun!
It's just white vinegar. It slows down the hardening of the plaster of Paris in the recipe I was using for paste. I now use a different mixture, with no plaster - just pre-mixed drywall joint compound mixed with an equal amount of white glue. But it only works with the shop towels, not regular paper.
Wondering if you could do something similar with a paper mache using clay slip, and using paper clay made with slip to build onto it. You might even be able to fire it.

Will the plastalina be reusable even after putting vaseline jelly on it?
Yes, the extra oil won't hurt it.
God bless this wonderful lady.

If you can find some paper towels that don't have the bumps, you can use them.
This is incredible! What an amazing hobby and talent you have. This makes me really what to make a creepy mask for Halloween-use or decoration🎃🎃🎃🎃
Go for it! 👹
@@UltimatePaperMache 😊
You make it look so easy!
The magic of video editing. 😀
can you use the clay again for another project after you take it out?
Yes, I do that all the time. You just have to clean it off a little, if it gets paste on it.
@@UltimatePaperMache great! Thanks so much for your help!
Its amazing! Congratulations. You are an artist! Greetings from Jalisco, Mexico!
Thanks.
you are wonderful artist
Oh my goodness I am in awe! AMAZING!
Thanks!
Hi my daughter like your videos she loves theSound of your voice and the great talent you have thank you for helping us buy OK
cool! :)
Reminds me of the masks from a Twilight Zone episode
You have a good memory - or have you been bing-watching the reruns? (That actually sounds like fun!)
@@UltimatePaperMache I used to binge watch them all the time, that one sticks out in mind.
The one you're thinking of is called *"The Masks".* It's the one where the dying rich man makes his ungrateful/greedy heirs wear grotesque masks for a night in order to get their inheritance.

awesome video! Great job.
Thanks, Angel.
I'm glad your video was in my feed I really enjoyed this project you did a fantastic job and where did you get your plastic skull ?
if you want to wear the mask, how would you like attach a string or something?
Just drill or punch a hole in the right spot and attach a string. You can reinforce the mask where the hole goes with a piece of felt on the back.
Ultimate Paper Mache okay, thank you 😊
That was great! It reminds me of one of the masks from the twilight zone.
Hello, I think you are wonderful! Thank you for being so generous in sharing. Would this be doable with the papier mache clay?
Yes, that would work. There would just be more texture, because that recipe has more paper in it.
@@UltimatePaperMache thank you very much!
Eu adooorei.. Teu trabalho é maravilhoso, tenho certeza que vou aprender muito com você!! Parabéns 😊👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I'm glad you like the videos! 😀
How fun, I love your work where did you get the skull?
Hi Sabra. I ordered it from amazon.com - amzn.to/2D88vUz
Wow!!That is amazing!
Love this! You are so talented, thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Dear Jonni,
Thank you very much for this video. Your mask work is amazing.
I would like to know what kind of material is that blue you used in the mask?
Thanks
That's the blue Scotts Shop towel. You can usually find them in a DIY store, or in the paint or auto section of Walmart.
Thank you very much!
I'am interested in these art but I can't afford all these items you are using 😫 is there any other way to make these arts ?
Yes, you can make paper mache the traditional way, with paper strips and paste. You still need to create an armature, of course, but be creative and use things you have around the house, like crumpled foil or paper and masking tape. Have fun!

It's just white vinegar. It slows down the hardening of the plaster of Paris in the recipe I was using for paste. awesome. I do not know what to say. that is epic and really well done.
Gosh - thanks!
Thank you kind lady, this was very useful! One question, could the mask get lacquered after its complete?
DamyanixOmega Yes - that would be a very good idea.
Thank you for doing this. I have some skulls to use they are on a dowel. I hope that it works. I love your videos.
Love your Art, where do you get the plastic skull?
Really nice, what’s that blue paper? Thank you!
That's blue shop towels. You find them in the DIY section of Walmart or in hardware stores.
awsome, u r a true artist
Thanks.
You would make CHARLIE PROUD!!;-)
How would I go about creating this on larger scale? For instance, if the mask was 6 feet tall or so, for use as a theatre prop or set piece on wall?
Wondering if you could do something similar with a paper mache using clay slip, and using paper clay made with slip to build onto it. You might even be able to fire it.
I have no idea. If you try it, let us know if it works.
Instead of Vasoline, can you use olive oil? So the clay can be reused?
Excellent lesson! Thank you!
