A masterclass. A lot of this resonates with project management (I am a project manager by trade), you start off and it's all about tools, techniques, processes but as you mature into the profession you realise that it's much, much more about the people.
They always say 'do your stakeholder analysis', which is a very basic process on the face of it, but peel the onion and you realise that there are some people, for example, that proactively work behind the scenes to ensure your failure! And they'll never tell you that, might not even be consciously aware of it*. A good consultant needs to peel the onion. Fantastic video.
*Look around the table after having to make an apology to the c-suite and see who's mood improves!

Hi Eric, thank you for sharing your insight and career experience as an ERP consultant. Recently I tried to switch my career role from Project Consultant (Accounting and Controlling ) to Microsoft Dynamics 365 consultant, I hope that I can make it come true and develop myself in the right direction. Greetings from Germany.

Hello Eric. Thank you for the good summary. The plethora of experiences made by you and your team(s) over the years provide a substantial knowledge base. It was good to emphasise the listening skills, to think in the grand scheme and the ability (not to say requirement) to understand the variety of personal motivations driving (or slowing down) changes & implementations.

When you say something about ERP, it seems that someone inside me echoes with you. As you said, listening and articulating the customer requirements is one of the critical skills of an ERP consultant. The best solution may not be suited for the people in the organization. I think Perito rules apply in the digital transformation spectrum (The people are 80%, and technology is 20%). I like your way of seeing a technology-agnostic approach to digital transformation solutions, which is unbiased and best for the the client. I would love to hear more about your experience. Working together on an exciting digital transformation initiative would be my pleasure.
I look forward to the exciting journey.

Hi Eric, I’m currently comparing two internship offers, one is for ERP Implementation (very similar to what your video describes). The other is a traditional supply chain role at an automotive company in the Purchasing division. I am a bit torn on what to choose. What do you consider as some of the key advantages and differences to pursuing a consulting role early on rather than a traditional industry role? Also, does starting in ERP Implementation turn someone into a one trick pony and not make them marketable for a potential career change? I am still young an am unsure on the path I want to take but am afraid that picking one that pushes me into 1 lane for a good portion of my career.

Hi Eric! I worked as a n IT Consultant for 5 years, beside this, at the same first 3 years, I also worked as researcher for 'SchoolERP Market in Bangladesh' and next 2 years as project coordinator for School ERP. I also took part in functional consultancy with the team. But now want to be a professional ERP Functional Consultant in online job market (freelancer) n don't want to take part in programming as I don't know programming. What tools I newly need to learn?
