I used to be the Springfield branch safety instructor when I worked at Alban Tractor. One of the sayings I picked up from a representative from VASHA (Virginia Safety and Health Administration) was this: "Safety Rules are written in blood." So, disregard them at your peril.
Yep every time someone died or got hurt in the airplanes I flew in we got a new safety rule. We never questioned if we should follow it because there was blood involved.

Regulations are enacted because of some egregious wrong doing that must be addressed for public safety because corporations can never be trusted to do the right thing. If there isn't a regulation against something that is a danger to the public they will do it if it profits them.

Every federal regulation, safety measure, and protocol exists because someone either got hurt or killed.
Then why didn’t Biden have these in place?
Now continue thinking that idea through. Sure, safety regulations are good... To an extent. Let's take your industry for example... Airplanes are the safest way to travel, statistically. But ppl still die in airplane crashes. Should we keep throwing regulations at the airline industry until they pretty have to permanently ground all airplanes? We'd save ALL lives then.

The Obama administration allowed the highly flammable and toxic chemicals to be reclassified in order to allow them to be shipped at higher speeds. The issue of allowing corporations to roll back regulations is bipartisan. Brian (and the commenters who are impressed by Pete) are blind to Democratic failures, which just increases the tribalism that keeps people entrenched in their positions instead of opening their minds to working together toward solutions.

I'm a locomotive engineer for 43 years, from what I've heard that a car was on fire and spitting out molten metal indicates to me that the axel lost its lubrication which then was bare metal on metal with the wheel which we call a hot box or hot journal. If undetected the wheel will fall off and cause a derailment. Car inspections prevent this but lax regulations cut down on inspections and this is the result.
