Haha I think the difference is this one has a lot more actual plot lines going on & side characters where the first has a bunch of random wacky things happening to a handful of main characters.
The first movie, to me, has a plot. Adam and Barbara are dead, they met Beetle who scared a family; they became friends with Lydia and have to stop him. Simple, easy to follow! The sequel has a few plots; Beetle's ex, the ghost kid, Lydia and the marriage, the ghost cop, Lydia's daughter looking for her father. Not all of them are developped, there's too much stuff going on; the story is hard to understand 🤨

As long as we've been waiting on a sequel, what they gave us was MEH at best. Some good parts, but the musicals were drawn out too long, and for God's sake, where were Adam and Barbra? Waiting all movie for them to show up was daunting!

Sometimes always in Tim Burton's works the audience has a kind of mixed reaction because they say we want the Tim Burton magic again with the strangeness that his films are but not so strange because it will become exaggerated, it is always a ping pong of reactions but In my opinion, that is what makes it unique because of the mixed interpretation of the audience.
I think the mixed reactions began predominantly when he started to heavily, and IMHO, over-rely on CGI, along with his more recent string of Disney-related movies, which felt ultimately soulless and empty. Just my take though! I am very excited to hear he took a back-to-basics approach for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and feels invigorated by doing so. Here's hoping he keeps on this path!

The way i described it to my roomies was, it felt like most of the movie was set up for a lot of story lines, but it was fun to watch it and the end mostly brought all the story lines to a head at once, even if a bit messy and slightly rushed in some aspects. Ultimately I enjoyed it, and while it never really hits the same highs or stride that the og does, I can definitely see myself rewatching this each year around Halloween along with the original, nightmare before Christmas, and hocus pocus. definitely a spooky season staple for me going forward. side note, it was nice to see jenna ortega in another burton project, because her performance really stood out to me as varied and different than her performance in Wednesday, when they could have very easily been played similarly. they are both snarky/combative edgy goth/alt teen girls, but astrid feels so different to Wednesday. which is a credit to Jenna's talent.
Did you know that the version of MacArthur Park, the one the group sings along to, was recorded by Dumbledore himself, Richard Harris in 1968? Donna Summer was the other version played. 😊

I just came back from the theaters. The plot is convoluted and could absolutely use a huge punch-up, but the movie is so fun and creative that it's easy to look past the flaws and just have a good time with it. When the evil ex-wife showed up in the end I was like, "Oh yeah, that's a thing," which is supposed to be the driving force of the film, I think, but I didn't feel it. There are plots rather than a plot, but it's worth watching.
I think some things could have been taken out to make it a little more focused. But, it didn’t bother me. Still a very fun time at the movies and sometimes that is all you need lol
I saw it last night and had a good time! It was weird, crazy and ridiculous but I think it's supposed to be that way! Even if we don't get a 3rd movie, I walked away feeling like my head was spinning like getting off a crazy roller coaster! Idk if I like this one or the original better but both have great qualities to appreciate and love about themselves! Props to everyone involved though, good time and definitely worth the wait we didn't know we needed! 😂
He steals every scene he is in and still has that hyper energy he's known for as the ghost with the most. (Saw it twice already, and he is amazing as always.)
Yes, I love this movie. I would love another movie if they do it was so much fun and the different storylines were fantastic. In my opinion I know there was a lot, but I really liked it.
Some of the storyline resolutions were rushed? I hope they didn't do anything like a giant snake suddenly out of nowhere being ridden (with no previous idea that you can ride them) through the front door and eating Beatlejuice to abruptly end the story. That would be terrible. (That is not a spoiler for this movie which I have not seen)
You can tell just by the energy they give off it’s nothing to write home about it’s just a decent movie. I honestly can’t wait till next year I heard things are really suppose to be spicing up with passion being reintroduced into movies and new personalities being discovered and enhanced like never before. So I look forward to that atleast.
I had a good time at the movies but agree with almost all of your criticisms. Fun to return to the world in general but the story line felt all over the place and didn’t really come together like I had hoped. Lydia being do blind to Justin Threaux’s character did annoy me though. It also feels kind of weird to me that Lydia and Delia would actually be close when even at the end of the first movie they still don’t really connect. That said, I’d still go see a third one if they made it.
I mean, no movie is critic-proof. If it gets bad reviews, it shouldn't deter you from watching it. If it's gonna be one of the high points of the year, let it be the high point! Damn any critics.
I think we have to remember that different people have different taste. Just because one part of a group didn't like it, it doesn't mean others won't like it. We shouldn't take movie reviewers' opinions as the only opinions. If they're trying to dissuade others from watching or enjoying something then that's on them but in the end, their opinions are just their opinions. Doesn't mean we have to agree or disagree.
I really enjoyed the cartoon and this movie reminded me of it. Lydia and beetlejuice team up in the other side. Even Lydia's hairstyles is from the cartoon. I really enjoyed it.
I loved it and yeah there were parts I feel they still could have trimmed. Jenna with her conflict and the whole Lydia and her manager they needed less of, Over all we got more of the spirit World. That I felt they should have had a nod to the musical because that was a success. And little nods of the cartoon should have been in this, A french undead skeleton or tap dancing spider creature.
Despite all the flaws I had such a blast with this movie. Reminds me of those whimsical halloween-esque movies back then like Hocus Pocus. There were a lot of plots going on but none of them were really "hard" to follow in my opinion. Of course a more central plot is better pacing wise but the cast was so good that each character's shining moment sold it for me.
Just saw it today, it was okay, just okay really, not spectacular but not horrible either. It had some fun moments anyway. I just wish Lydia had ended up with Beetlejuice, that song at the end was really romantic @_@
I watched the first movie yesterday and the sequel today, was interesting to watch them so close together and see how much has changed (bc 36 yrs is a long ass time lol). I also was surprised by a couple plot points, maybe im slow too 😆. The ending got too chaotic for me but otherwise I really enjoyed it. I did miss the maitlands.
I want to mention that my good friend, Actor & puppeteer Mike Quinn who apparently was the prop designer for BeetleJuice BeetleJuice said to me that this movie is gonna be big and now I see why
Twas an EPIC Experience to watch "Dune: Part 2" with you ALL at IMAX Headquarters earlier this year! Looking forward to seeing more Sandworms in this Sequel Too! ^_^
By the way this is a really funny story because there are certain movies they came out this year that I say Oh, I hope Greg and John see this one on their channel to see what their reaction is at the moment, and they see it in theaters and I never get it right and we never got the chance, like Alien romulus 😅
Watched this at midnight as a part of an employee exclusive pre screen showing. It was... Fun. It felt like Beetlejuice to me. But I'm also not sure how to feel about it. I think maybe I've gotten too caught up with movies being good or captivating recently that I can't just have fun with a movie, so I definitely want to rewatch the first film soon to get a better idea of how I feel about the second one. But I can say that I loved to hate the character of Rory, and he definitely gave me the most laughs throughout the film.
I went in with low expectations and came out smiling. It wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t as good as the first movie but I had a fun time and I think Michael Keaton did a better job than what I was giving him credit for going in. There was a bit too much going on is my only critique. I wish they focused on the teen ghost plot rather than some other plots they went with
honestly i liked it more than the first one, the first one i liked micheal keaton and everything else was pretty mid, in this one it had alot more micheal keaton and i actually liked the other leads winnona, jenna and catherine were actually great in this movie, and willem defoe too, i didnt love his character but i cud see that he was having fun in the role, the characters in the first movie were kinda flat imo. so this one was more fun imo. my only real complaint is i didnt like how winnona was scared of him in the first act of the movie, i wish she was just annoyed by him because shes desebsitized to it like she was in the last act. i did also think the love interst guys, both for winnona and jenna, i just didnt really like them, ik thats kindof the point but it just wasnt giving what it was supposed to be giving, winnona's love interest was doing too much and jennas love interest was doing too little, they were my least fav part of tge movie
God! I hate how they handled the Maitlands. An easy fix should have been, when Lydia went to college Charles had Barbara and Adam exorcised thus putting them in the lost souls room. The story goes exactly the same for Beetlejuice 2 except that Lydia has spent most of her life helping people with ghosts to cope with not being able to see Barbara and Adam. She has been mad at her dad all these years and now he is dead. The whole 2nd movie plays out the same except when Lydia goes into the afterlife she sees Barbara and Adam in the lost souls room and they have a moment of closure where they recognize each other and are able to let go. They could have easily CG’d Alex Baldwin and Gina Davis into the green ghosts hologram look from the first movie. This would have tied it better than “we found a loophole”
while i get the story of the ex wife wasnt executed all that well, and while i thought it was a great way to get Beetlejuice involved using the killer neighbor storyline, i get it was sort of lazily resolved, but honestly thats not what i was there to watch anyway, i was there to watch the goofy wedding ceremony that came right after and all the other Beetlejuice like shit they gave us, like the italian plague shit we wouldnt have got without the ex, so i thought it was great and liked it more than the original, and my kids couldnt have enjoyed it any more, my daughter went dressed like Beetlejuice and couldn't have laughed any harder than she did during this film...
If you haven’t watched this yet DO NOT watch the first movie first because it will ruin your experience watching the second movie. The second movie is basically the first movie and they get rid of the couple from the first film using a “loop hole” because the mechanics of the first film established a time frame. The film is good if you don’t watch the first film. This film is done to setup a third film basically which is fine. Is it better than the first film? No it’s not. And that’s okay many sequels don’t hit the mark. But this film was done more to setup a sequel instead of the last film which wasn’t bad a self contained story. Anyway it’s a fun movie but just don’t watch the first one because it will let you down. I foolishly watched the first one before watching the second and it ruined it for me sadly. I hadn’t watched the first one in a long time. I wish I didn’t watch the first one. So don’t make my mistake because I think it would have been more enjoyable. It’s an okay film though. So those complaining about the people who think it’s not as good we’ll get over it it’s not as good but it’s still a good movie. The original did a successful job telling a good story. This film is just getting everyone up to page so they can do another sequel. Honestly I wouldn’t call this beetlejuice 2 and more like beetlejuice 1.5 or even call it a reboot. Can’t wait to see the sequel.
I paid extra for the 4dx, and I have to honestly say... I did not like it... at all. There's parts that's not needed. It's beyond SLOW. I know the first movie was slow, but I was forcing myself to stay awake slow. The threat was easily fixed. And the replacement for "Day oh" was nowhere near the same.
@@SteveODonnell I greatly enjoyed the film, but what confused me is why Lydia couldn't communicate with her dead husband. It establishes in the opening that there's death after death and that's the end, so I reasonably _assumed_ that her dead husband was _dead_ dead, but he was perfectly fine, evidently? What was the point of that concept? It went nowhere. Again, loved the movie, but it's messy. I wish he spent more time thinking about these fun concepts and exploring them.
Tim Burton is an acquired taste, so I get that the audience response is going to be mixed. Some people love Mars Attacks! but I cannot stomach that movie, I thought it was hot garbage. But, to each their own.
This movie is much much better than the FAILED-Over-The-Top and COMPLETE FLOPS: 'mission#9 impossible' and 'Indiana#10 jones' from last year that I never saw anyway due to NO interest......
THE ORIGINAL HAD A HAPPY GOOD ENDING THEN THEY CAME BACK WITH B.S.,THEY NEVER LEFT THE ORIGINAL HOUSE,THEY WERE ALL HAPPY ROGETHER AND THIS #2 HAD A BROKEN FAMILY THING NOPE I DIDNT LIKE IT!!!!!TOGETHER
I left the theater absolutely devastatingly disappointed watching this. I only chuckled 1 time, and Delia Deetz is absolutely annoying as hell in this movie. This ranks with The Watchers as most disappointing movie of the year award
It opened with a dismembered corpse of a murder victim reassembling itself. That was a surprise. What's funny is that there were multiple children in the theater. One, in particular, was more offended by the kissing scene than that. A dismembered body? Silence. Two people kissing? Gross, don't! lol
Bad writing. Astrid finds out her grandpa died and could care less. What an unpleasantly written character. And the ENTIRE plot of the first movie was the deetzes are so annoying the maitlands hire beetlejuice to scare them off. And really that just means Delia because they like lydia and charles is bland and inoffensive. In THIS MOVIE, delia is now a main character that we are supposed to like and agree with. LOL Its like making a sequel to batman 2 but now the penquin is the main character and supposed to be likable. The writers dont understand the characters. Beetlejuice apparently became a middle manager in the afterlife? And has a picture of a 16 year old girl on his desk he seems to be in love with. Okkkkkkk. Lydia was previously intelligent, moral and strong. Now she is a sell out, taking drugs, terrible mother and in a relationship with a guy that we can all tell is bad news in 2 seconds. Which she never progresses enough to even figure out on her own, he literally has to tell her he is bad for her to realize it. Shes a completely different person from her original character in every way, and only bad ways.
She is, yeah. I just wish she also felt more like a co-lead so she could do more of her unique weirdness rather than being caught between a bunch of other characters.

That’s what happened in the first movie.
@@thefirstbourne149I'm pretty sure that was his point. Lol
Spoiler: it happened something similar in the third act
You can tell just by the energy they give off it’s nothing to write home about it’s just a decent movie. I honestly can’t wait till next year I heard things are really suppose to be spicing up with passion being reintroduced into movies and new personalities being discovered and enhanced like never before. So I look forward to that atleast.
Great post-analysis as always…. ALSO, Rings of Power 2x3 reaction please!
I just watched the RR Beetlejuice reaction
I had a good time at the movies but agree with almost all of your criticisms. Fun to return to the world in general but the story line felt all over the place and didn’t really come together like I had hoped. Lydia being do blind to Justin Threaux’s character did annoy me though. It also feels kind of weird to me that Lydia and Delia would actually be close when even at the end of the first movie they still don’t really connect. That said, I’d still go see a third one if they made it.
Commenting before watching the video, I’ll not accept a bad review for this movie!!!! This is supposed to be one of the high points of my year 😨
I mean, no movie is critic-proof.
Doesn't mean we have to agree or disagree.
remember, the only opinion that matters is yours!
Deal with it. It’s their opinion not yours. If you only want to hear the positive stuff, go to a different channel, man
It still can be!!! Even a flawed movie can still be a high point if it gets enough of the right things right 😌
I really enjoyed the cartoon and this movie reminded me of it. Lydia and beetlejuice team up in the other side. Even Lydia's hairstyles is from the cartoon. I really enjoyed it.
Dang... Greg got salty at the end 😂
A moment of silence for Bob 😔
I loved it and yeah there were parts I feel they still could have trimmed. Jenna with her conflict and the whole Lydia and her manager they needed less of, Over all we got more of the spirit World. That I felt they should have had a nod to the musical because that was a success. And little nods of the cartoon should have been in this, A french undead skeleton or tap dancing spider creature.
Really enjoyed the film !!
Off topic but I would love Tim Burton do a Marvel movie 🖤💜
I don’t know if he would, but it would be awesome if he did
I felt sorry for Bob.
All I will say is...Sigur Ros' music in a freaking TIM BURTON FILM! ❤❤❤❤
There is a mistake in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Maria SKŁODOWSKA Curie was born Polish not French.
Just saw it today, it was okay, just okay really, not spectacular but not horrible either. It had some fun moments anyway.
I just wish Lydia had ended up with Beetlejuice, that song at the end was really romantic @_@
If the sequel to Beetlejuice is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is the sequel to this channel RRR?
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
I watched the first movie yesterday and the sequel today, was interesting to watch them so close together and see how much has changed (bc 36 yrs is a long ass time lol). I also was surprised by a couple plot points, maybe im slow too 😆. The ending got too chaotic for me but otherwise I really enjoyed it. I did miss the maitlands.
I want to mention that my good friend, Actor & puppeteer Mike Quinn who apparently was the prop designer for BeetleJuice BeetleJuice said to me that this movie is gonna be big and now I see why
Your friendo did some quality work!! Hoping it’s big so they’ll make a part 3 🤞🏼
I loved it ,great sequel had me in fits of laughter ,stop talking trilogy talk ,this was fantastic in itself ,dont kill the franchise
Love your review, sweetie. You just got to get your new microphone. It almost went through my ears in my truck.
I wish they focused on the teen ghost plot rather than some other plots they went with
Now load up the pod of you escaping beetlejuice , candyman , Bloody Mary mad lads
I'll see this movie tomorrow
How about a cross over with Ghostbusters for the 3rd installement when the world of the dead invade the living ?
I loved the movie. My one complaint is that it felt like it took a while for it to get going. Could've used a little less setup.
honestly i liked it more than the first one, the first one i liked micheal keaton and everything else was pretty mid, in this one it had alot more micheal keaton and i actually liked the other leads winnona, jenna and catherine were actually great in this movie, and willem defoe too, i didnt love his character but i cud see that he was having fun in the role, the characters in the first movie were kinda flat imo. so this one was more fun imo.
my only real complaint is i didnt like how winnona was scared of him in the first act of the movie, i wish she was just annoyed by him because shes desebsitized to it like she was in the last act. i did also think the love interst guys, both for winnona and jenna, i just didnt really like them, ik thats kindof the point but it just wasnt giving what it was supposed to be giving, winnona's love interest was doing too much and jennas love interest was doing too little, they were my least fav part of tge movie
Greg, please, do a Just watched for Sonic 3 as well, that movie is hype!
I was happy that they were in a better place and no longer ghost
Reel Rejects, Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!
Your camera makes me feel like I have film over my contacts.
while i get the story of the ex wife wasnt executed all that well, and while i thought it was a great way to get Beetlejuice involved using the killer neighbor storyline, i get it was sort of lazily resolved, but honestly thats not what i was there to watch anyway, i was there to watch the goofy wedding ceremony that came right after and all the other Beetlejuice like shit they gave us, like the italian plague shit we wouldnt have got without the ex, so i thought it was great and liked it more than the original, and my kids couldnt have enjoyed it any more, my daughter went dressed like Beetlejuice and couldn't have laughed any harder than she did during this film...
Everything was predictable but I still loved it
I feel like the movie didn't know how to end the other side plots. It wasn't the movie it could have been, still fun though.
Just a review, NOT a reaction lol
Out of Theater Reaction
@@Xeribus Wouldn't that be an "Out of theater review"? Or "initial thoughts"?
I think itd be cool if they waited another 20-30 years to do the 3rd one, but obvs cos of michaels age, maybe 10 years?
I’m glad this movie is at least decent because I hated Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, & Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies amongst others.
I honestly liked it more than the original 🤷♂️
Excellent Beetlejuice 2 , xd👍 10
Who cares at the end. Make y'all's own judgements when yall see it.
Always!!!
The real question is when is Long Legs Reaction Coming
👀👀

My fav boys!
Biggest question I have is does the movie explain what happened to the Davis and Baldwin characters? I’m curious about that since they aren’t in it
Lydia does briefly explain what happened to them.
Release the Burton cut!! 😅
I watch beetlejuice yesterday
Hopefully, the wtiting in Wednesday Season 2 will be better than this.😅
I'm still confused why a certain soul sucking character was sucking souls out of ghosts. If they're already dead why do they have souls to suck? 😕
Your Soul still lives on. Its what goes to heaven or hell. The essence of your life. It's peoples souls that stay as ghosts in our world.
@@TheLegendOfRandy it was like he went straight to working at there with no reason to remain on earth as a ghost. No unfinished business.
Lol the little jabs at the pointlessness of Monica's character 😅 Great design...should've just been left out entirely..
Watch: Universal Soldier (1992) Great action scifi movie. Innerspace (1987) Followed by Hard Target (1993), Timecop (1994)
Tim Burton is an acquired taste, so I get that the audience response is going to be mixed. Some people love Mars Attacks! but I cannot stomach that movie, I thought it was hot garbage. But, to each their own.
i loved BOB
Is it a worthy second movie, or was it just another first movie
Worthy
It’s a fun movie. If you’re a fan of the first, don’t take it too seriously and you’ll enjoy it.
I thought so definitely
Catherine was the star.of the movie maybe over Beetlejuice
This movie is much much better than the FAILED-Over-The-Top and COMPLETE FLOPS: 'mission#9 impossible' and 'Indiana#10 jones' from last year that I never saw anyway due to NO interest......
Are y’all filing this in a sauna lol.
Winona Ryder was hot in this movie she’s my favorite chick
THE ORIGINAL HAD A HAPPY GOOD ENDING THEN THEY CAME BACK WITH B.S.,THEY NEVER LEFT THE ORIGINAL HOUSE,THEY WERE ALL HAPPY ROGETHER AND THIS #2 HAD A BROKEN FAMILY THING NOPE I DIDNT LIKE IT!!!!!TOGETHER
A lot can change in 36 years you know.
I left the theater absolutely devastatingly disappointed watching this. I only chuckled 1 time, and Delia Deetz is absolutely annoying as hell in this movie. This ranks with The Watchers as most disappointing movie of the year award
i saw it today: wasn't expecting to be pg 13(bloodier and has cussing) O:
It opened with a dismembered corpse of a murder victim reassembling itself. That was a surprise.
What's funny is that there were multiple children in the theater. One, in particular, was more offended by the kissing scene than that.
A dismembered body? Silence.
Two people kissing? Gross, don't! lol
Any mention of Barbara and Adam ??
That’s what I’m wondering too
Yes they mention the Maitlands.
@@haydencooper_ oh nice. Prolly nothing major to explain just their absence huh?
Yes, but in the movie, Lydia said they had moved on. She also mentioned the town models were made by the Maitlands.
Well Lydia is meant to be weird and quirky, no?
She is, yeah. I just wish she also felt more like a co-lead so she could do more of her unique weirdness rather than being caught between a bunch of other characters.
I wouldn’t joke about that Bloody Mary though lol.
