The Carmen Electra joke about her boyfriend being Prince makes more sense when you know that in real life Carmen Electra was discovered by Prince! They dated for a bit, he called her his muse and he signed her to his label, she released her only full-length album under his label.

I was fortunate enough to see this movie in theatres when it was first released. Most of the audience, myself included, were in our early twenties and experienced the post Scream era of horror as teenagers so the source material was very recent and well known. It was probably the most I've ever heard an audience laugh during a film, in both frequency and volume. Very much a near perfect parody.

They’d definitely have to be a lot more careful with their jokes considering that there wasn’t many boundaries back in 2000, but I think it’s still possible. People think that comedy is impossible now due to “cancel culture”, but if you put enough time in and give it some effort, you can still make a great comedy movie that’s able to poke fun at things without making it terribly offensive.

As a gay man, I laughed at mostly every gay joke and was never offended. It could be that I understand the time in which this film was made where offensive comedy didn't have such a huge backlash. But also, I can't honestly say I was ever offended. I enjoyed the stupid jokes because they were in an obvious stupid movie that parodied good movies. And this movie is so much more watchable then some of the bland comedies that are still being done today.

1:59 the Wayans didn't "tap out". On Christmas (in 2003, i believe) the Weinstein's called and told them they were fired from their own project, their upcoming Scary Movie 3, and they were very upset about it. They were removed mid-production, which is why the tone feels somewhere between SM2 and SM4. It's a damn shame that they were removed, they made the first 2 movies what they were. (Also, Ray's character is still hilarious)

As bad as it’s aged, it’s a movie I gotta thank cause I saw it back in 2010 when I was 9 yrs old. My sister had the DVD of this movie and I thought "I'm not supposed to watch this. Let's watch it." and then my curiosity made me look into the actual horror movies it parody’d. Now I’m super into all kinds of horror: movies, books, games. It all started with Scary Movie. 😂

I am 40 and this movie came out when I was 18 I believe. I saw this movie so many times. It seemed like once it made it to tv it was always on one of the comedy channels or MTV. Even though the scream movies are obviously superior, I had a hard time not getting confused about certain scenes. It is true when you said they kinda fuse after a while. It is definitely outdated but I still love the gross out and physical comedy.

My 5-year-old self thought this movie was the funniest thing in the world. I was a background extra in both Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4. For Scary Movie 3, I was asked to be the guy getting off of the toilet in the cursed video. Unfortunately for me, that role went to someone else who had a bigger ass. So I was asked to stick around and they'd find something else for me. So I spent most of the day hanging out with the body doubles of Carmen Electra and Pamela Anderson (both very nice girls and looked remarkably like the actresses who they were sitting in for). I was eventually given the part of a newsroom cameraman. I was working the camera as Sindey and her boss were fighting over control of the teleprompter as Sidney was trying to warn the world about the cursed video tape and her boss was trying to deny its existence. Unfortunately, all footage of me wound up on the cutting room floor. There isn't even any surviving footage of me in the extended footage in Special Features on the DVD/BluRay.
In Scary Movie 4 I played one of the refugees wandering along the road in the scene which parodies the scene from War Of The Worlds where the refugees attack Tom Cruise's car because it's the only one that still works. It's a "blink and you'll miss it" moment, but you can actually see me on screen pounding on the cars hood, shouting to be let in. Pause the video in just the right place, and I'd be practically right in the middle of your TV screen.

I was raised by my grandma in a very Christina home and so I didn’t get to watch anything besides Disney until o got old enough o could sneak things.
I watched scary movie 1 for the first time and died laughing. Even at all the dory stuff even though clearly it was wayyyy out of line and I felt bad at times but its just hysterical. I also think I liked it way more bc it was directed by and starred lots of people of color and some of theirs jokes were so freaking elevated and nuanced because of that.
