@@gladyscjn5669 outside of proseka and minus a few producers, vocaloid really stagnated and all their unique sounds went away to form a generic mass-market pop sound that was so uninspiring. It's why i don't follow pretty much anyone except utsu-p these days.
this like a vocaloid history course holy crap. As someone who only got heavily into vocaloid last year, this helps fill in my timeline a little better and some of my knowledge gaps. Didn't realize how many of the defining artists of vocaloid actually started from the early days, between 2007 and 2009. You are the real one, always uploading high quality vocaloid content.
Not even just the defining artists, but people who still haven't seen much of a western explosion in popularity until recently. Utsu-p being an example that comes to mind.
As someone who's followed since almost the beginning (2009), it's crazy looking back at Miku's history like this as well. A lot of songs that I thought came out earlier actually came out later and vice versa, especially with the stuff between 2008-2013. That was honestly Miku's peak in my opinion because there were so many different producers who were all experimenting with different stuff. Even with well known producers, they'd have so many different styles on their own as they played around and figured out what worked and didn't. Not to mention how many of the producers like Jin and Mothy were using Miku (as well as other Vocaloids) to tell stories through multiple songs or have people guess the meanings of interconnected songs. I hate to sound nostalgic, but I hope we back to those Vocaloid days now that Miku, and by extent other Vocaloids, are gaining popularity again.
I got into vocaloid right after my family trip to japan ended, it was 2013 and I was 10. My mom brought me to japan, before I knew who the blue-haired girl on all the boards and ads was 😢 Good times.
@@AnthonyH0395as someone who was a big Vocaloid fan in that period starting from 2011 and fell off in 2015, same. I’m thrilled that Vocaloid has seen a resurgence in quantity/quality of songs and in its popularity, but it’s not the same. I wish there were more songs and story series like there used to be like KagePro. It feels like something was lost as it waned in popularity and even after regaining popularity it lost some of that spark. I miss those days.
It doesn't feel like it but it was already 4 years ago. But there is also the fact that I put more songs for the more recent years because the vocaloid community is bigger and more active than before. So the last few years take a bigger part of the video than the other years.
@@bluestar3939 Thank you for all your hard work, but pre-2014 making just under 30% of the video is a real shame, with 2010-2013 being widely considered the Golden Age of Vocaloid. Rankings and medleys by JP users like いも男爵, ちや/Chiya and えいえい桜花 are good references for the NND & JP side of things, particularly for songs of that time period. Oh well, there's always the next milestone anniversary video...

There are way more songs published now than before and recent songs have been getting way more popular, some are even getting millions of views within a few days, which didn't happen back then. And if you want a comparison of the number of songs published, I used Vocaloid Database and they have 20429 entries for songs published in 2010 (9830 of them featured Miku). For 2020 they have 35544 songs (12579 of them with Miku)
@@bluestar3939 Mainstream popularity and numbers =/= Golden Age, but then we'll be stuck talking about definitions. Golden Age also evokes idyllic, imaginary & romanticized feelings and nostalgia; not necessarily always a good thing. 2017 began a Renaissance period, while Vocaloid has been transforming into the mainstream popularity we see today. Numbers and stats cannot be directly compared when there are vast differences in the NND and YT platforms. Given those differences, for the numbers you just quoted for songs, 2010 is far more impressive.
@@bladeone3732 I don't understand why you find the 2010 numbers more impressive but everyone has their own opinion I guess. To me the fact that 2020 has more songs shows that the community is more active and the smaller percentage of Miku songs shows more variety in what's being made. And these numbers combine NND, YT, Bilibili, Soundcloud, albums and more other ways of releasing songs so it's not a comparison between platforms, especially considering most artists use multiple of those and that some artists are still more popular on NND now. Back then there was more songs only published on NND but there was more reprints on other platforms so it wasn't that much different. Personally I don't even like the term golden age, it's used here and there by various people often blinded by nostalgia with no consistancy on what it means or which period it represents. Give it enough time and you'll see people becoming nostalgic for 2020. We already start to see nostalgia for 2016-2018, especially from those who got into vocaloid at that time. In any case, the point was that more songs being made means more songs to show so recent years take a bigger part of the video.

oh my god you dont understand how happy i was to see r-906 😭 i will say i cried multiple times during this video hecause of the nostalgia trips and memories associated with so many... on so many of these particularly pinocchiop and the magical mirai/miku expo songs i couldnt believe they came out that long ago... miku has been with me sine 2014 when i was 8 years old and now im 17 hearing all of these and its bringing me back to simpler times... thank you so much for all the little clips of so many good songs i know like the back of my hand :D
2008 was the year I found Vocaloid, and I was so so so obsessed, but I could only enjoy it alone because no one around me liked the “machine chipmunk voices”. I’m so glad nowadays it is way more popular and I can enjoy it with more people, albeit just gushing about it online. But still, those songs from back then, they still resonate with me the most. Like, I’ve listened to them so much back then that it feels like coming home when I hear them.
2011 was when I first heard vocaloid, I remember my brother putting some of the songs in my 3DS to listen to music to like World is mine, Meltdown, Trick and Treat, Sekiranun Graffiti, and Butterfly on your right shoulder. nostalgia go brrrr

Unlike many others, I got into Vocaloid relatively recently, in 2020. I started by listening to the latest songs and gradually explored classic tunes from the past, often following UA-cam recommendations. It was quite fascinating to see that, as I kept watching, more and more familiar songs appeared. I was genuinely surprised when I checked the release years of those classics and realized just how old they were. I feel like I've taken a time-travel journey while watching the video. I got hooked so hard and fast, I was buying tickets to Miku Expo 2016 damn near when tickets were available. 16 years of Miku, I can still hardly believe it’s been that long since she was created. It's amazing how I can sit through 1 hour 35 minutes 35 seconds and enjoy moment of it. I'm proud of myself for knowing more than 70% these song here, especially after 2017. I guess 2012-2013 was my time since most of favorites all gathered there. (Also you did my girl Fakery Tale 27:36 dirty 😢, the song doesn't go all wohh-oh like that) But thank you for putting all these songs together, must been a lot of work ❤

Jesus Christ... I have no clue if I should be proud or embarrassed at myself for recognizing all 713 songs and the fact that I watched the whole video. I have been her fan since 2010, and for 13 years (and counting!) I have witnessed her evolution and her slow entrance to mainstream media. I'm so proud of where she is now. I consider her as a childhood friend, and if you think I'd fall out of her phase, you'd be dead wrong. I am introducing her to my great grandchildren!!!

holy shit, it must've been amazing to have been there in 2010 to witness the creation of absolutely iconic songs. I joined the vfandom much later in 2013 and to this day I regret not being there earlier.
the quality of pvs back in 2007-2010 honestly to me are very impressive give how stuff was at that time and I cant get over that. And this whole video made me almost cry cause I just love Miku so and seeing all this brought back memories when I found out about these songs for the first time just a special time for me.
I've been following the vocaloid community since 2008. I've seen so many then hit songs become classics. I recognized about 98% of the songs here, but I pretty much recognized all the artists. I remember the days when vocaloid was considered wierd even for anime fans! People would think you were weird for liking singing robots. That it was too eccentric for even seasoned anime fans. Especially the concerts. People thought you were crazy for going to see a singing hologram. Back in those days there wasn't that much of a comprehensive explanation or even videos explaining the history in detail what vocaloid was. It's been such a wonderful past decade seeing the rise of Miku from an obscure niche voice synthesizer program used only by aspiring musicians to a beloved music icon. I've never left the vocaloid fandom since the day I clicked what I thought was a cute little anime music video on UA-cam in 2008. That video led me down a rabbit hole of a then blossming new genre of music. I think the first video I saw of vocaloid was Promise by Samfree or Turkish March by Owata. I might not be as involved as I once was...(I used to know the names of every vocaloid in existence and at least a handful of songs featuring them to recommend) But I don't plan on ever leaving the vocaloid community. It's become a part of my life and has been since the late 00s.

I just want to apologize in advance but this comment is going to be very very long. Iremember exactly when i got into vocaloid. brs just came out (june 2008) and i got to say its really a huge emotional journey watching my entire teenagehood to adulthood memories rush through with each song. Vocaloid was such an important aspect of my life and as i got older there was a point where i just kind of left it behind for a period. Then I returned back to it slowly casually listening but not seeking it out like I used to. Each years songs bring specific memories of my life back to me because vocaloid was so close to my heart growing up in an abusive house it was my escape my coping mechanism. I moved away from it when I escaped that living situation. I always fall back to vocaloid songs to cope through so many moments of low points and I am honestly so truly grateful for every artist, producer, vocaloid and utau content creators out there that helped me through the hardest moments of my life. Thank you. The fact I can recognize almost every song. The memories of the forum era. The memories of my reprinting era. The memories of my heartbreaks of samfree, wowaka, etc. So many different eras of the vocaloid community over the years. The first time I bought Miku V3. The list could on and on. I really do thank Miku from the bottom of my heart.
0:01 This is 01_ballade, Miku's first demo (and the first VOCALOID song I ever listened to). It wasn't remade into Hoshi no Kakera until later; the album featuring this 'full version' was released in early 2008.
01_ballade is technically a nickname. Until the release of the album version it didn't actually have a title. Also this demo came out before the release of Miku so it's technically older than Miku.

I tried to upload some myself, but most got blocked in every country except Japan, the only exception being Stella by JIN. My love for miku all started when i visited my cousin for the first time in a long time and we didn't have anything to talk about so I asked her what she liked and she said "Miku" I knew nothing of miku at the time. This was 4 years ago already and at first I just wanted to learn more about Miku so that I would have something to talk about with my cousin but then I ended up actually liking the music and now me and my cousin are both vocaloid fans.

I got into vocaloid during the V1 japanese era from browsing nico douga when it was meiko and kaito. Miku didnt even exist yet. I remember when her demo vid released being amazed. Its so surreal to be going to miku expo next year. Many of us though vocaloid was a fad and would die off in a few years. Im so proud of how the fandom and producers keep vocaloid alive

Absolute banger of a video, fuckin' incredible seeing this in my recommended. I went through high school weebdom at like the perfect sweet spot for that big late-2000s early-2010s boom (2008-2012) of vocaloid music. Started listening in 2008 and it's stuck with me ever since, so this is like a massive nostalgia trip down memory lane for me. I can literally point out songs like, "OH SHIT I was listening to that while I played this game or did that" etc. Blowing me away how some of these producers I've picked up only in recent years like Kikuo have been making music for over a DECADE. I can't put into words the feeling of getting blasted by memories for every one of these songs that pop up. Seriously, thanks for this.

Honestly I do feel that Project Sekai revived the vocaloid community. It wasn't exactly dying, but it boosted it a lot.

@@gladyscjn5669 outside of proseka and minus a few producers, vocaloid really stagnated and all their unique sounds went away to form a generic mass-market pop sound that was so uninspiring. It's why i don't follow pretty much anyone except utsu-p these days.

this like a vocaloid history course holy crap. As someone who only got heavily into vocaloid last year, this helps fill in my timeline a little better and some of my knowledge gaps. Didn't realize how many of the defining artists of vocaloid actually started from the early days, between 2007 and 2009. You are the real one, always uploading high quality vocaloid content.
Not even just the defining artists, but people who still haven't seen much of a western explosion in popularity until recently. Utsu-p being an example that comes to mind.
As someone who's followed since almost the beginning (2009), it's crazy looking back at Miku's history like this as well. A lot of songs that I thought came out earlier actually came out later and vice versa, especially with the stuff between 2008-2013. That was honestly Miku's peak in my opinion because there were so many different producers who were all experimenting with different stuff. Even with well known producers, they'd have so many different styles on their own as they played around and figured out what worked and didn't. Not to mention how many of the producers like Jin and Mothy were using Miku (as well as other Vocaloids) to tell stories through multiple songs or have people guess the meanings of interconnected songs. I hate to sound nostalgic, but I hope we back to those Vocaloid days now that Miku, and by extent other Vocaloids, are gaining popularity again.

I got into vocaloid right after my family trip to japan ended, it was 2013 and I was 10. My mom brought me to japan, before I knew who the blue-haired girl on all the boards and ads was 😢 Good times.
@@AnthonyH0395as someone who was a big Vocaloid fan in that period starting from 2011 and fell off in 2015, same. I’m thrilled that Vocaloid has seen a resurgence in quantity/quality of songs and in its popularity, but it’s not the same. I wish there were more songs and story series like there used to be like KagePro. It feels like something was lost as it waned in popularity and even after regaining popularity it lost some of that spark. I miss those days.

It doesn't feel like it but it was already 4 years ago. But there is also the fact that I put more songs for the more recent years because the vocaloid community is bigger and more active than before. So the last few years take a bigger part of the video than the other years.
@@bluestar3939 Thank you for all your hard work, but pre-2014 making just under 30% of the video is a real shame, with 2010-2013 being widely considered the Golden Age of Vocaloid. Rankings and medleys by JP users like いも男爵, ちや/Chiya and えいえい桜花 are good references for the NND & JP side of things, particularly for songs of that time period. Oh well, there's always the next milestone anniversary video...
@@bladeone3732 I'd say the golden age of vocaloid is right now to be honest. There are way more songs published now than before and recent songs have been getting way more popular, some are even getting millions of views within a few days, which didn't happen back then.
And if you want a comparison of the number of songs published, I used Vocaloid Database and they have 20429 entries for songs published in 2010 (9830 of them featured Miku). For 2020 they have 35544 songs (12579 of them with Miku)
@@bluestar3939 Mainstream popularity and numbers =/= Golden Age, but then we'll be stuck talking about definitions. Golden Age also evokes idyllic, imaginary & romanticized feelings and nostalgia; not necessarily always a good thing. 2017 began a Renaissance period, while Vocaloid has been transforming into the mainstream popularity we see today.
Numbers and stats cannot be directly compared when there are vast differences in the NND and YT platforms. Given those differences, for the numbers you just quoted for songs, 2010 is far more impressive.
@@bladeone3732 I don't understand why you find the 2010 numbers more impressive but everyone has their own opinion I guess. To me the fact that 2020 has more songs shows that the community is more active and the smaller percentage of Miku songs shows more variety in what's being made. And these numbers combine NND, YT, Bilibili, Soundcloud, albums and more other ways of releasing songs so it's not a comparison between platforms, especially considering most artists use multiple of those and that some artists are still more popular on NND now. Back then there was more songs only published on NND but there was more reprints on other platforms so it wasn't that much different.
Personally I don't even like the term golden age, it's used here and there by various people often blinded by nostalgia with no consistancy on what it means or which period it represents. Give it enough time and you'll see people becoming nostalgic for 2020. We already start to see nostalgia for 2016-2018, especially from those who got into vocaloid at that time.
In any case, the point was that more songs being made means more songs to show so recent years take a bigger part of the video.

2008 was the year I found Vocaloid, and I was so so so obsessed, but I could only enjoy it alone because no one around me liked the “machine chipmunk voices”. I’m so glad nowadays it is way more popular and I can enjoy it with more people, albeit just gushing about it online. But still, those songs from back then, they still resonate with me the most. Like, I’ve listened to them so much back then that it feels like coming home when I hear them.

Unlike many others, I got into Vocaloid relatively recently, in 2020. I started by listening to the latest songs and gradually explored classic tunes from the past, often following UA-cam recommendations. It was quite fascinating to see that, as I kept watching, more and more familiar songs appeared. I was genuinely surprised when I checked the release years of those classics and realized just how old they were. I feel like I've taken a time-travel journey while watching the video. Thanks a lot for this wonderful video!

I remember getting into Vocaloid some point in 2015 when I was 15. I got hooked so hard and fast, I was buying tickets to Miku Expo 2016 damn near when tickets were available.
16 years of Miku, I can still hardly believe it’s been that long since she was created. Here’s to many more years to come! 😊😊

It's amazing to watch that over time she's gotten better at singing like a person but at the same time still keeping the qualities that made her "Hatsune Miku".

She's probably one of the most underrated producers in the community. Her work doesn't use only vocaloid but a ton of softwares now and her style is so unique, everyone check out her songs !!!
Jesus Christ... I have no clue if I should be proud or embarrassed at myself for recognizing all 713 songs and the fact that I watched the whole video. I have been her fan since 2010, and for 13 years (and counting!) I have witnessed her evolution and her slow entrance to mainstream media. I'm so proud of where she is now. I consider her as a childhood friend, and if you think I'd fall out of her phase, you'd be dead wrong. I am introducing her to my great grandchildren!!!

I've been following the vocaloid community since 2008. I've seen so many then hit songs become classics.
I recognized about 98% of the songs here, but I pretty much recognized all the artists.
I remember the days when vocaloid was considered wierd even for anime fans! People would think you were weird for liking singing robots. That it was too eccentric for even seasoned anime fans. Especially the concerts. People thought you were crazy for going to see a singing hologram.
Back in those days there wasn't that much of a comprehensive explanation or even videos explaining the history in detail what vocaloid was.
It's been such a wonderful past decade seeing the rise of Miku from an obscure niche voice synthesizer program used only by aspiring musicians to a beloved music icon.
I've never left the vocaloid fandom since the day I clicked what I thought was a cute little anime music video on UA-cam in 2008. That video led me down a rabbit hole of a then blossming new genre of music. I think the first video I saw of vocaloid was Promise by Samfree or Turkish March by Owata.
I might not be as involved as I once was...(I used to know the names of every vocaloid in existence and at least a handful of songs featuring them to recommend)
But I don't plan on ever leaving the vocaloid community. It's become a part of my life and has been since the late 00s.

I just want to apologize in advance but this comment is going to be very very long.
Iremember exactly when i got into vocaloid. brs just came out (june 2008) and i got to say its really a huge emotional journey watching my entire teenagehood to adulthood memories rush through with each song. Vocaloid was such an important aspect of my life and as i got older there was a point where i just kind of left it behind for a period. Then I returned back to it slowly casually listening but not seeking it out like I used to. Each years songs bring specific memories of my life back to me because vocaloid was so close to my heart growing up in an abusive house it was my escape my coping mechanism. I moved away from it when I escaped that living situation. I always fall back to vocaloid songs to cope through so many moments of low points and I am honestly so truly grateful for every artist, producer, vocaloid and utau content creators out there that helped me through the hardest moments of my life. Thank you.
The fact I can recognize almost every song. The memories of the forum era. The memories of my reprinting era. The memories of my heartbreaks of samfree, wowaka, etc. So many different eras of the vocaloid community over the years. The first time I bought Miku V3. The list could on and on. I really do thank Miku from the bottom of my heart.

0:01 This is 01_ballade, Miku's first demo (and the first VOCALOID song I ever listened to). It wasn't remade into Hoshi no Kakera until later; the album featuring this 'full version' was released in early 2008.
01_ballade is technically a nickname. Until the release of the album version it didn't actually have a title.
Also this demo came out before the release of Miku so it's technically older than Miku.

@@bluestar3939 Yeah, most of the time, when it's not the same version, it means that I couldn't find it on UA-cam. I tried to upload some myself, but most got blocked in every country except Japan, the only exception being Stella by JIN.
As for the Eve songs, thank you for pointing that out, as I had no idea these were self-covers :( I tried to avoid this kind of mistake, but I don't really know Eve, and I guess I haven't paid enough attention.

My love for miku all started when i visited my cousin for the first time in a long time and we didn't have anything to talk about so I asked her what she liked and she said "Miku" I knew nothing of miku at the time. This was 4 years ago already and at first I just wanted to learn more about Miku so that I would have something to talk about with my cousin but then I ended up actually liking the music and now me and my cousin are both vocaloid fans.

I got into vocaloid during the V1 japanese era from browsing nico douga when it was meiko and kaito. Miku didnt even exist yet. I remember when her demo vid released being amazed. Its so surreal to be going to miku expo next year. Many of us though vocaloid was a fad and would die off in a few years. Im so proud of how the fandom and producers keep vocaloid alive

Absolute banger of a video, fuckin' incredible seeing this in my recommended. I went through high school weebdom at like the perfect sweet spot for that big late-2000s early-2010s boom (2008-2012) of vocaloid music. Started listening in 2008 and it's stuck with me ever since, so this is like a massive nostalgia trip down memory lane for me. I can literally point out songs like, "OH SHIT I was listening to that while I played this game or did that" etc. Blowing me away how some of these producers I've picked up only in recent years like Kikuo have been making music for over a DECADE. I can't put into words the feeling of getting blasted by memories for every one of these songs that pop up. Seriously, thanks for this.
r-906 is doing such a good job in modern day vocaloid. his songs really feel modern but also feel like they blend in with the older classics. thanks for this video i really enjoyed it all the way through
i think 2017, 2019, and 2021 were very very very good years for vocaloid songs and probably my favorites outside the earlier years
