US voter here. Idea of my nation turning its back on Europe horrifies me to the core. Was a Republican for 35 years working with the party and candidates for several of those years. Left the party when Trump was nominated in 2016. Given the cowardice and stunning ignorance among Republicans I have seen since 2016, will never support a Republican for any office. Support for Ukraine is my primary criteria of support. Biden has been too timid.

What went wrong with the republican party? They were proud and hawkish Americans. Now they support Russia in an illegal, aggressive war and a land grab. What the hell happened?

I'm not sure how Americans reconcile support for Ukraine AND Trump at the same time because there are Americans who support both. Trump will end the support if he takes office. If not supporting Ukraine , then is that supporting Russia IF Trumps actions inadvertently help Russia ? I know it won't be all Americans, but Putins aggression is not good for Europe OR Americans IMO. I'm not sure whether this will be the straw that breaks the camels back, because at present there is steady support. Biden had been trickle feeding artillery which is far better than no support. It keeps Putiin on his toes. As I understand it article 5 still stands between USA and Europe, Does Putin take Trump if elected as an all out abandonment of Europe and allow him to move to other areas of Europe or is he too weak at present? Be good to be a military strategist.

I can't imagine what it is like in Ukraine right now, with the constant threat from Russia, the lack of power, and the suffocating heat. I am wondering how the Ukrainians can keep up their spirits and when they reach the breaking point. The unrest in the US and the prospect of no help from the US after the election has to be another pounding to the spirits. I am in deep awe of the Ukrainians and thankful to the team of Ukraine the Latest of keeping us aware.
They come all to Germany in the Winter and then we germans going apeshit on u.s troops in Ramstein.
Oh, Please! We have been fed the same false narratives from these jokers as we received from DC, Londo and Kiev. Ukraine is about out of men and weapons because the US has never faced down a peer super power on the battlefield and has de industrialized to the point that it can never again produce armaments and munitions en masse at much more than a small fraction of that which Russia can. And these idiots in Washington think we can take on China. Americans bumble on hoodwinked and drunk from US propaganda and false narratives as power shift to Eurasia in this new century.
Im an active voter, registered republican. Once Trump picked Vance, I considered not voting at all. I cant vote for abandoning Ukraine. Ive followed every single day

I don't like Vance, but I'm not choosing a terrible domestic leader just because Trump isn't a cheerleader for Ukraine. But I still would bet my savings account Trump keeps the aid flowing at the same rate, while being a dude with enough backbone to actually implement a no-fly zone, etc unlike Biden. Biden hasn't been "good" on Ukraine, he's just not completely terrible at it, so relative to his other policy bumblings it appears good by contrast, lol.

I too, am an active voter, and when the Republicans dithered for months about the last aid package, costing Ukraine thousands of soldiers and allowing the Russians to dig in even further, I decided to vote for the entire Democratic ticket this November. I haven't voted Democrat since 1980, when I voted for Jimmy Carter at the urging of my union leadership.

Using Nato tax payers money on a non member state is out of line... NATO has already succeeded in it's original objective of curbing Russian expansion, whatever our objective is with whats left of Ukraine we should decide now, because we are massively weakening ourselves by backing another lost cause.
Ukraine is Russia's back yard... 10's of thousands of Russian speakers were killed before the Russian army launched the invasion.
We didn't keep to the minsk agreement. And rejected every chance at peace negotiation so far.
So far the Russian invasion has been far less deadly to civilians than the 1991 invasion of Iraq.... And they have way better reasons to be at war also.
Ukraine just lost 1000+ marines for a pr stunt... They are like Germany in early 1944.

@@maxmay2151 What we could not afford was not sending in air support and winning this war quickly. We had the chance to blast all those Russian tanks just stalled and waiting for us to knock them all out at the start of the war. I for one and sick of the way in which we have gone about supporting this war. It was plenty of money I will admit but never for that strategic win. Plain stupid. I do not know enough about it to comment yet read another commenter explained that the only reason Ukraine did not hold up its end of some of the agreements was b/c Russian occupation and warring in the East of Ukraine prevented Ukraine's implementation of the agreement.

The U.S. is not turning its back on Europe, but it is time Europe stands on its own feet and not be dependent on the U.S. so much as in the past. The U.S. has extreme internal challenges as does Europe. It is narcissistic and selfish to expect the U.S. to be nothing but a milk cow for Europe and Ukraine with no further consideration. We are all in this together and we're all under strain. Let's not fight about it, but find solutions.
Indeed... We will side with Russia when the time comes... Energy supply and geography will decide the future.
If things go south in Asia, the US will need every toy Europe's industry can provide. Therefore, it is better to keep them on our side.

The US under Trump and Vance stopping support for Ukraine and NATO is not the worst case scenario. Even worse, the US may actively support Russia and China and help them take over Ukraine, Taiwan and other democracies. Many countries may need to do like Iran and North Korea and get their own nuclear weapons now.
Ukraine is a democracy. I guess depends on your definition.

From what we have seen, Russia's Navy might, from China's perspective, be more of a hindrance than an asset. On the other hand, any missile launched at Russian assets is a missile not being aimed at them.

The Chinese have more ships than the United States but the Chinese Navy’s ships are mostly very small patrol boats. It is not a viable blue water navy and will not be for years if ever.
