The Alcohols - Bartending 101
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2012
- Here's a once over on the main different types of alcohols in a bar. Please excuse the mediocre video and audio, this is literally one of the first videos I ever shot. Thank goodness we've come a long way since then 😉.
VIDEO DISCLAIMER: This video is intended to be in the vein of mnemonic learning with stories and bad jokes to help you just get a basic understanding of things. What I'm saying is that some statements aren't 100% accurate. And while I don't call tequila a gin or vodka a scotch... if you want more nerdy science and factual information about this stuff please have a look at the "Alcohol's Playlist" here: • ALCOHOL 101: What's In...
Cheers! :)

can you make a video explaining the difference in Mezcal and Tequila?
Edgar Solorio mezcal is made in any region with any type of agave succulent plant. True tequila is required to be made from 100% Blue agave.
Very informative video! I'll be checking your other videos soon! 👍
I paid better attention to this class than I have in any class I've ever taken

this video is pure gold. 200 proof. I learned so much about alcohol in this short 20 minutes, THANK YOU SO MUCH Jason!
"Poisonous yeast sweat". Love it, best way of putting things.
You should do another video like this but all about beer, wine and champagne and the different characteristics of each of those
It's in the works!!
+BartendingPro I agree :D
Which pixel is Jason?
I laughed way to hard at that lmaooooo
140p
the drunk one
by far the best bartender stuff on yt..
I just turned 21. I'm not going to be a bartender but this helped me figure out what to order when I go to bars and stuff, because I'm used to just drinking whatever crap they have at frat parties. But now I can finally pick a drink!
I turn 21 in 1.5 hours lol. Just the perfect channel for me right now
i swear america is the only place that only lets you buy drinks at 21, 3 years behind xD
yet we can smoke and vote at 18!
and buy guns
but we can't drink?
Whiskey Sour (fresh juice), Manhattan, Old Fashioned (angostura and orange bitters, and no fucking muddling or soda water)
Enjoy
Thank you so much for this video!! Im only 19 years old and beginning my studies as a professional mixologist, this is going to help my basic bartending SO much! I have a notebook Ive been writing everything down in and now thanks to your bartending videos I'll be that much closer to an expert! Thank you soooo much! :)
..'it really tastes like shit so we have to flavor this'....LMAO
Those title cards sound like they are trying to kill me.
If it's percentage it's all in proportion. A bottle of 151 is 75.5% alcohol whether it's full, half full, or has a few drops left
til it separates lol
This is 3 years late but hey! It is most likely less when there is less in it, because of evaporation inside the bottle being released when opened.

I just want to say thank you for all these videos, they've really helped me develop my skills more than anything else I've tried. This video alone has made me feel like an expert when I talk to my friends.
watching this was addicting, more facts and information than my mind was ready for, awesome.
Pure Gold. One of the best videos on alcohols. Very nice explanation. Hats off.
your personality makes this. funny and a corky kind of charming. awesome video! information so helpful for work, and the way you lay it out is noob-friendly ;) thanks
Wow! This guy knows so much! I love watching his videos. He has such a great way of explaining things. I always learn allot. I can't believe how much I learned from THIS video. SO much info. Thanks, Jason, for doing what you do!
Thank you so much. I'm going to have an EPIC cocktail party for my 50th...my hubby and I had one before about 7 years ago when we first got married. This video is reminding me about what I need to know. I am not making crazy cocktails for the party but with I have learned to know what I am buying and why. Knowledge is power. :) Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. It's not much but I see a sticker in my future!
I like that this channel is focused on information and technique and not so much for the flair like I saw another commenter point out. Definitely will be watching
Finally decided to step out of my comfort zone and just got two jobs serving at restaurants with full bars.. And omg! This video is awesome!
Note it down gentlemen:
Potatoes + yeast + water = Vodka (Russia)
Sugarcane Molasses = Rum(Caribbean)
Luagaave = Tequila(Mexico)
Juniper berries = gin(Netherlands)
wheat = Whiskey(USA)
Corn and wheat = Bourbon(USA)
blue agave my friend
Whisk(e)y is like Vodka made from grain (mix or pure). Whiskey is is non-scottish, irish or irish based (Scotch) Whisky is from scotland. Single Molt = only Barley.
Yeah wheat is the most common grain for vodka. And whiskey and scotch are more often done from Barley than wheat.
Also gin is just vodka spiced with juniper berries it's not made from juniper berry mash.
And gin isn't mostly from Holland the Dutch drink is Genever and it doesn't taste quite the same as Gin.
Bravo Jason! This was an excellent orientation to alcohols. I'm less nervous knowing the basic science behind the bottle. Thank you so much!!
Best class ever. I have this on replay thanks for this vid man your time is appreciated 🙏🏽
I've been meaning to shoot a video about absinth. The truth is that it's hardly ever seen in any bars in the US so it's not particularly relevant to most of our viewers...but still, I do intend to cover it eventually :)
I LOVE your videos!! New to the bar tending profession and you're seriously helping me so much! Cheers mate!
As a bartender, I found this video and your explanation ND teaching skills superb to other videos on UA-cam. Keep up the good work!
i just started my first bartending job. i have never done this before i dont know how to make drinks or anything...but im lucky to have an awesome bar owner that wants to work with me. this is a Rehabilitation thing for me to work on my social anxiety I'm very thankful and lucky to have found someone like her that will work with me with no experience. its so hard for me so thank you for your grate videos that help me out alot!
You are so knowledgable, and you make this so easy to understand. Many thanks!!
Mark Umbenhower
Statement below is 100% correct on the single barrel.
Also Bourbon can be made anywhere. Not just Bourbon Kentucky. To make a Bourbon you have to follow a few laws or Rules.
1. Bourbon must have at least 51% corn, it can have wheat. Rye. or both as long as 51% is corn.
2. All bourbons are made in new oak barrels. Never using the barrel more then once for bourbon.
3. Bourbons must be ages for at least 3 years. The peat use to smoke the barrel is not a must. Some are lightly smoked and some are not smoked at all. Most of your Scotch. Scottish Whisky or Bourbon is know for more smokey flavored. However this is not a rule in Scotland they are many Scottish bourbon that are not smokey. There is a lot more to whiskey. Whisky and Bourbon especially between Ireland and Scotland and the US. If interesting you just have to do some research.
I'm a new bartender and your videos have helped me a lot! Thank you!
Thank you for making this video. As a recent graduating bartender I appreciate this video. I'll be watching this vid for the next few days to absorb all the info.
Thank you, that was very comprehensive!! Excellent video!!
I really want to bartend and this is so helpful for me! Very informative and thorough. I'm a novice with not much knowledge of liquor so it helps to see the differences and learn
Hi Jason, is it?
Wanted to express my thanks. I've started a new bar job recently without knowing anything about bar-tending.
I've watched this video a couple times over, tried to absorb the info and it seems to have helped significantly! I know what to reach for when a customer asks for brandy, or whatever else.
So once again, thank you for posting this video, it's been a great help.
Just started training as a bartender today and this video definitely helped on my alcohol history :) I know most the brand names, but now I have some backstory. It doesn't hurt to learn about what you're drinking and serving.
I want to learn my alcohol but I don't specifically know where to look ??
Dude you crack me up with those subtle funny comments. Awesome video. Very helpful.
Haha, thanks Jack... Trying to keep it fun!
All your videos have been a real tool for me.
There aren't many pros out there willing to share their knowledge
Thank you very much for your effort.
Just watched this for the second time. You did such a good job. Keep up the good work man!
this guy is actually so great
hey from Australia, love how simple you've made this.
Thank you :) I have my 1st solo bartending job this Sunday. Gathering all the tips from you xoxox
I honestly don't know how you have little subscribers, this is golden, subscribed and keep up the good work!!
Great video! I've spent ALLLLL night watching your videos. Thank you for educating the masses and being a great bartending ambassador to us all. Hope things are going great.
Starting bartending school in 2 days. Learned a couple things, thanks !

This video is extremely well done and informative. Thanks!
hi Jason love ur videos ive been bartending for 16yrs and u just told me somethings i didnt know lol thanks for being kind enough to share what u know!!
this video is awesome. I cant wait to check out more.
I agree, almost to the 15 yr mark (yikes!) myself and I still learn new stuff almost everyday in this job!!
Right on, no problem!
I was looking behind him at the selection and didnt see Grey Goose. Right as i was thinking that, at 2:58, it appeared magically on the top left shelf! ha
I'm sure the definitions change slightly from country to country, but a liqueur contains sugar of at least 2.5% of mass. Therefore something like Captain Morgans Spiced Rum or a flavoured vodka are still liquors as they do not meet this criteria.
I really really needed this! Thank you!
This was very informative and well done. Thank you ☺
“Says here you are certified in mixology, that’s always a huge plus”
“Yes I just watched a 25 minute video by bartending pro beforehand and am very prided on that accomplishment”
😂😂😂 💯
Wow, you are incredible. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
Really helpful,I just want to say thanks n keep updating!!!!!!
This was very informative and well presented. Thank you
Very informative, thank you!
this is the greatest presentation ever!!
You are really a good teacher.... Now I can proudly talk about different kind of wine like a pro to my colleagues 🤓🤓...
Not entirely accurate. The Champagne region is about 400 miles away from the Cognac region. Champagne Cognac is simply made from grapes grown in two subregions of Cognac called Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne.
Massimo Ercolani 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Agree, I do need to do an update on Pisco...on the "need to shoot" list!
What an awesome useful tutorial
I believe Captain Morgan Spiced Rum is a liquor, not a liqueur.
This is from their website:
Original Spiced
Smooth and medium bodied, Captain Morgan ® Original Spiced is a spirit drink based on a secret blend of Caribbean rums, mellow spice and other natural flavours. It gets its distinct richness and amber colour from aging the rum in charred white oak barrels. Captain Morgan ® Original Spiced is the perfect mix with Cola - the secret recipe of spices blend with the Cola to make a legendary mix!
ABV: 35-37.5% (can vary by market)
AVAILABLE: Worldwide
A spirit is a hard alcohol, or liquor.
It's a liqueur. The spices and flavourings in Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum are added after the distillation process
This video is so helpful, just got a job at a bar and had no idea about any of that stuff
you amazing brother , thanks for all classes
This is definitely helping my knowledge base, thanks for the info!
This was such a helpful video and I loved watching. The guy is very handsome, and when I was noticing this fact, I also noticed that he MUST be drinking during the video bc he totally loosens up near the end. For me, for some reason, that adds credence to his opinions and expertise. haha
Thnx a lot man. Ur a life saver...
This dude is such a fuckin boss. And humble! Thanks man
Jason... Your video series is absolutely brilliant and really fun to go through...
I had a few doubts about liqueurs however. I learnt at culinary school that liqueurs not only have artificial flavoring but also the addition of sugar. Does that still make malibu, capt morgan, stoli, etc liqueurs
This was great! Thank you
Why is this video more educational and interesting than school?
Hahaha, great question.
This was very helpful. Thank you!
thank you very much boss,i learned more from you, really appreciated.you are a really professional bartender..
I love this channel.
Dude your videos are awesome. Thank you very muc
This was a great learning experience ☺️ Thanks 😌
Incredible!
Liqueur vs. Liquor info saved my life!
So i have to say that this is awesome! Now you rock!
Very, very VERY Nice video. It was V.S, thanks a ton for putting the time in to make a video such as this one.
Cheers, leaving a sub as tip ;)
Great video. Basically answered every question I've ever had about alcohol
Great vid man. Opening up a new bar and about to go get it ready today. These vids are excellent for refreshing that knowledge all around and learning too. You do great at it to so thats big. The key diff between Bombay and bombay sapphire is Bombay is only distilled Bombay S is distilled then infused with 10 botanicals. So wait... wouldn't that make it a liqueur? Lol
excellent video! thank you
Awesome video dude!
Single barrel means it came out of a single barrel and wasn't blended. Not that it was th first use like you said. Single barrel is more exclusive than single malt. Singe malt is a blend of up to 40 barrels. Single barrel is from 1 barrel. The master distiller selects the best barrels to be single barrel lables and no barrels get blended. All bourbon is aged in a new barrel or its not bourbon. So no point in saying 1st barrel when its never aged in a used barrel.
Can you recommend some good brands/bottles of bourbon?
Bret Maverick single and malt are different. its "single" n "malt". not "single malt". malt refers to the barley taking a good majority in the ingredients. im not sure what single means. i think distillery
@@RoyalHam you probably don't need this anymore 😂 but Four roses small batch is good although I like scotch more.
That was a great video. Thanks
I know a lot about beer but not much about liquor! Love the video.
