13:09 "when 99% of the world is wrong about something, alot of times its easier to just do things the wrong way" this quote stuck out to me.
yeh, like the misconception that "a lot" is one word
@@welissa3031 should of just gone a long with it :p
I just started as a bartender with 0 knowledge of alcohol or anything. I really don’t drink. This video is AMAZING and I’m definitely going to be watching all the others. Thank you so much for creating it!
You started at a bar or who took you without experience?
You're amazing. I've learned more from this video than the bartending class I attended. You're very clear in your explanations & presentation. Thank you so much.
Eda, that means so much to me! Thank you!
Ola Eda sane here
Wow, I normally never comment an any videos, but I can't help but comment on this one! I have to say, you are beyond amazing! You are a natural when it comes to teaching/helping others! I've been looking for alcohol 101 and all the videos that I came across were not very helpful; too difficult to understanding and to follow along with. You are an amazing instructor! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, it has helped SO much! I will be starting a serving job at a bar and I am nervous and scared because I'm not very familiar with alcohol, but thanks to you I have been able to learn so much! Thank you.
Ps. Your are so beautiful too
thank you! and dont be nervous! half the battle is confidence! good luck!
Two weeks ago I was a busboy at a restaurant, and my manager asked me to become a bartender. Not only have I never bartended before, but I’ve never even had a drink before. I knew absolutely nothing about alcohol. I had only five training shifts before working on my own, and I could not have done that without you. Don’t underestimate the influence you have had on thousands of people, whether they want to just learn more about alcohol or how to to bartend. My full-time job is a college professor, and I would stack your teaching abilities up with any of my colleagues. Keep up the great work you do.
your instructonal videos are the best. honestly.
germenfeo, thank you! Stay tuned!
Hey RockStarBarGirl! I am 50 years young and just got my first job bartending. Thank you for all of your help!
4:20 I know nothing about bartending and liquors, but I'm interested. Thank you for all that information - it's awesome
The BASIC ... mind blowing!! Thank you so much, it made the whole thing so much easier to understand
Insanely helpfull! There is no video comparable to this on UA-cam, thank you so much. (starting bartending Job Saturday^^) I hope to see more of you in the future :)
Thank you sweety!! Tell your friends and spread the word! More to come!
I literally sat down watched all this and took notes , you’re a great instructor honestly 👏!!
You are a Godsend! Words cannot express how much I've learned in less than an hour of full instruction from you! You are very clear and easy to understand to people who have no prior bar experience!
Glenn Martin oh wow Glenn thank you soooo much! That means the world to me! If you like my instructional videos, make sure to join my website therockstarbargirl.com . I have a ton of vids on here but my new instructional videos are only available on my website. Thank you so much for checking me out and welcome to the wonderful world of bartending!!
I like how detailed you are and enjoy educating the general public. I like that you enjoy what you do. Keep up the good work and throwing in little bit of FYI tidbits.
Thank you! I am so glad you like my videos and get my vibe. I do love what I do and that maybe I am helping. Stay tuned!
Starting my path towards bartending today. This video is very informative and well done. Thank you for the help!
I love your videos! They have been very helpful. I'm just now getting my foot in the door to bartending & ive learned so much from you!
Thank you Emily! You can do it!
I finished my four days of training today and I don't feel ready at all, the girls who trained me basically took advantage of me and had me run errands for them or just pour beer! I am seriously nervous as hell for work this weekend, any tips for memorizing drinks and measurements
Steph Bby Flashcards! They are truly the best. Put the name of the drink on one side and on the back put the glass, recipe and garnish. Not everyone is a good trainer. Sometimes you have kind of have to train yourself. In this biz we call it sink or swim. Dont stress it. Stay friendly, let your guests know you're new, and call the manager if you have any serious questions or issues. Otherwise just do your best. You're already a rockstar!
RockstarBarGirl I actually started by myself a couple days ago! It was a morning shift so the crowd was slow, i made a recipe book and worked 6 hours and made $150! I loved it thanks for your videos they actually helped out a lot!
My first time behind the bar, i was 19 and had an amazing trainer. Asking whoever is training you about liquor you haven't seen is completely dependent on the bar you work in. My bar is pretty slow (Returning serviceman's bar) so i had a lot of time to just chat with my trainer about different liquors and what he commonly uses them in.
If your bar is super busy, then of course just read the labels, but if your place is slower and you get along with your trainer then asking them about their opinions of new liquor is a great way to learn very fast.
Also, depending on your bar, you might have a lot of time to learn, it took me 5 months before I needed to make anything that wasn't a 1) gin and tonic, 2) rum and coke, or 3) Vodka bitter lemonade. This let me be well prepared for when i DID have to make something other than those, as i had plenty of time to research.
Number one priority (in my bar) is pouring a tap beer correctly and using the correct glass/jug, so your number one priority on your first day is to see what are the most common drinks and perfect that before worrying about learning 50 different drinks.
I’m so happy i stumbled across your page! I literally got thrown into my job blind folded and I’m more of a hands on type of learner unless someone is thoroughly explaining something (as you just did) i CAN’T wait to go into work tomorrow lol. I feel very confident about making drinks now that i know more about the liquors and their origins! Thanks sooo much girl, you really rock!!!❤️❤️😘
omg hottcommodity, thank you!!! I love getting messages like yours. I want everyone to feel prepared when they go out there. Learning as you go can be really hard. So having at least some idea of what to expect/ how to sound like you've got your shit together can really help. It sounds like it did for you. Go get em rockstar! Thank you for watching!!
Omg I love your videos. I’m in the process of becoming a bartender and your helping me out sooooooo much. You are best!!! Thank you soooo much.
Thank you Bobby! I'm really glad you found this helpful. I go even more in depth in my online course The Fundamentals Every Bartender Must Know. You can check it out at therockstarbargirl.com. Thanks again for tuning in!
Thank you for this! I have recently been plucked to start bartending at my restaurant (because I am one of the few that is over 21) and they have given me almost no training so this is truly a life saver!
Oh man, yea that happens alot in this business lol. So many places really struggle with proper training. Im glad my videos could get u through it! Thanks for watching!
AWESOME video, I learned so much from this, thank you for uploading.
Thanks June, I appreciate that! Glad it was useful!
Love your videos 🥹 making me feel more prepared for a potential bartending position 🙏🏽🥹 thank you!!!
I absolutely loved this video, it was very helpful for understanding everything on a base level! I do have a question about the Jack Daniels classification though. To my understanding, there is a federal classification for whiskeys and bourbons do not explicitly have to be from Kentucky. While there are a number of prerequisites to be considered a bourbon, one of the biggest is that it must have a mash of at least 51% corn (just like how Rye Whiskey has to have a mash of at least 51% Rye). Jack Daniels meets all of these prerequisites and is federally classified as a bourbon. However, they like to market themselves as Tennessee Whiskey so that they can portray themselves as being above bourbon. I think many people might call it an American whiskey, a sour mash, etc. but I don't think it is wrong to call it a bourbon. In fact, I think it technically is one. I am pretty new to this stuff, so I could definitely be wrong. I would love to hear what you think about its classification (:
You are EXTREMELY gifted girl! Thank you for being an incredible engaging & interesting teacher! This is the first time that I’ve stumbled across your video & I’m so glad that I did as I was actually hanging off of every word you said lol 😊 I’d pay good money to take some classes from you!!!
Thank you so much Katrina!! I so appreciate that. I've been creating videos to help people get into this industry for 6 years now and it feels so good to hear you say that you appreciate this information. And you're in luck! Last year, I created a full comprehensive online course that covers everything you will learn in bartending school and then some and that comes with my 16 piece custom RockStar BarKit to everyone who enrolls. Check it out at therockstarbargirl.com !
RockstarBarGirl Just stating pure facts! I am a little embarrassed to say this but I actually saved this video to my ‘watch later’ about a year ago when I was getting back into bartending after being out of the game for a wee bit lol. I was deleting videos that were saved that I had watched & watching the videos that I hadn’t yet watched. Hence how I ended up getting to see your video lol. I’m so glad that you are a teacher, created an online course & share your content with us as this is truly a gift that you were blessed with! ❤️ I most definitely will be checking out your online course & be telling all my fellow bartenders out there to check you out. As soon as all of this craziness is over with the world rn & I get back to work, I’ll definitely be purchasing your online courses! I’ve been in this industry for about twenty years on & off & have been taught by many (& have taught many)..... but I’ll say that this is the first time that I’ve EVER been so captivated & retained all the information that I was learning. Not only will this broaden my knowledge on the subject but I believe that your lessons will help me to keep my trainees engaged 😁 I really can’t thank you ENOUGH!! I hope that you continue to keep posting your videos & growing your channel. As soon as I’m back to work in a few weeks (I pray ) & getting back to making $ than I’ll start my classes. I wish you nothing but success & happiness babe! 💕 Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much for making these videos! You are extremely knowledgeable, and a great teacher!
Awesome video! I especially liked how you broke down whiskey. I learned so much from this video. I had to take notes lol.

Hi! You’re such a great teacher. Thank you for being so informative, especially for the alcohol uneducated; I appreciate it!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks a lot. I work as a sticker and no one taught me anything when I started through a temp service. You taught me more in this video than my boss or any of my co workers. The rest I've just been learning on my own.
So straightforward and in-depth! You’re amazing and very well informed. Thank you
i really like your videos.. im learning alot from you thank u 😊

You’re very informative & I love it. Can you do a video of how to make some very popular drinks you would expect to be made in a bar, cocktails I mean & some recipes or ways to remember recipes because there is so many!
Hey Kayla! I hope you are well. I have a Tip of the Week video where I talk about how I remember drink recipes. You can find it in the Tip of the Week playlist. Gin is not made FROM a juniper berry. It’s aged in barrels WITH juniper berries, & various other herbs, and spices to give it flavor.
Great video! Now to Basics 101 Liqueurs :)
Robin Glenshard thank you for watching. More material coming soon!
What are your typical well alcohols? (The cheap stuff.)
And when do you know when to use the cheap stuff?
Hey St. King. Great question! So "well" brands will vary from place to place. The term "well" just means the least expensive spirits in the house, usually used when no specific brand is preferred by the customer or needed for drink. So what brands qualify as "well" in any given bar will depend on the bar. In a nightclub in nyc the "well" might be what other places consider premium. The club's cheapest vodka that they use for everything might be Grey Goose and therefore the "well" brand vodka at that club is Grey Goose. Where as Grey Goose might be the most expensive vodka option. Generally speaking around nyc you will see inexpensive names like Alexi, Barton, Pueblo Viejo on the well. As for when to use them: the answer is NEVER! lol. Bartending is about driving sales above all else, so Always Be Upselling! You should always be offering premium priced spirits to your guests. If someone asks for a vodka soda, never just grab what's on your well. As the guest if they'd like the Grey Goose. They will almost always accept your recommendation and boom you just turned an $8 drink into $14 purchase. The more the bill, the higher the tip (hopefully) so upselling is key. And don't worry about the morality of intentionally trying to get someone to spend more. Your guests are adults. If they don't have the money, they'll politely ask for well. Make sure to check out my video on Upselling and thanks for watching!!
RockstarBarGirl thank you so much for this reply. You are the best. I love your videos!! Thank you again!!

Ily ! Thanks so much !
Thank you for this, It was very helpfull.
Thank you, I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Very educational, a comment about tequila, it's not really from a desert place, in Jalisco (an state from Mexico, more centric and tropical) there is a place literally named Tequila, and the product have Appellation of origin (idk if I say it right) and if your tequila is not from there, then it cannot be named Tequila. The agave more than a cactus is a succulent plant
I just stumbled upon your vid but hey, you are a very good teacher. Cool

Thank you so much for this video, very informative and helpful! The only thing I would correct is that "fireball" is actually a cinnamon flavoured Canadian Whisky and not American.
Hello Di Na! Thank you for that correction, you are absolutely right! Thank you for watching!
I heard Malubu is a rum based liquor because it's flavoured. Got it

What is the alcoholic percent in liquor
Hi Nagesh. Great question. To calculate the percentage of alcohol by volume for a particular spirit, simply take the proof and divide it by 2. So, the percentage of alcohol by volume of a spirit that is 80 proof is 40%. Most of the spirits you work with are in the 40-50% range. Hope that helps! and thanks for watching!
Really, really good videos...thank you very much!
Thank YOU!!
What about rye
that was amazing thank you so much!
Thank YOU!

Christian, so glad u liked it! Thanks for watching!
Wow... you are good girl ...Way to go !!!! What a lesson ...
Thank you Ana! Keep watching!
So is there only rum that is made from sugarcane and rum that is made from molasses?
Thanks for the question Damian! Yes, by definition Rum is an alcohol made from the byproducts of sugar cane, most commonly sugar cane juice or molasses (which is a syrup left over from the refinement of sugarcane juice). It is clear when made and you can age it in barrels, add spices or even flavor it. But to be Rum, it must be made from sugarcane. Hope that helps!
Wiskey isn't made only from corn
You're totally right ma. Bourbon must be made from at least 51% corn, but whiskey in general is made from grain, with corn being one of the options of grain that can be used. Thanks for that clarification!
@@RockstarBarGirl thank u :)
