The Easternmost point of North America is in Alaska, the Aleutian islands cross the 180 longitude line so are in the eastern hemisphere, Alaska also has the most Westerly points of North America
After considering this video I've concluded Alicja was trying to kill you, Steve, and would have kicked your corpse off one of those sheer cliffs into the sea so she could cash in the secret life insurance policies she took out on you when you weren't paying attention. Unexpectedly, you were too fit for her this time but beware because she might try it again! 🤔
Back in the early 80's when i was younger, iused to hike, camp and hitchhike all over the western us and some Canadian sites. I enjoy these so mucha you can't know. Now, i have to sit in my rollater chair to cook, so illalways appreciate your videos🎉🎉❤❤❤😅😅😅😅
I knew a woman who was going to America on the day of Sept 11 attacks. All the planes were diverted to the nearest airfield and hers along with many more landed at Newfoundland. She had nothing but praise for the people there who took them in their houses and looked after them. Like you, she said they were the friendliest people she had met.
Funny was crossing the Tower bridge in London the day a terrorist stabbed people on the neighboring bridge. They shut down the bridge and the subways (the tube) for several hours. When they finally opened it there were people diving on the top of full trains of bodies to get past the doors. I was stuck at some pub for quite a while, I refused to dive.
Every time my wife and I went hiking, we usually purchased hiking sticks and just donated them before we left town. Until the invented the 3 part collapsing ones we could stow in our carry-ons.
I love the barrens. My husband and I had our honeymoon in Newfoundland. Watching this makes us want to return, perhaps in a couple of years for our 10th anniversary. It is very rugged there. And we always miscalculated the time it would take for us to do a hike.
A 48 minute mid-week video, no wonder you're burning the midnight oil with the editing! Hiking videos that are this good are a rare thing on UA-cam, this one has made my day.
if youve never done it or anyone else coming to Newfoundland mistaken point is a must its a nice guided walk down to the oldest fossils in the world its a protected site so you cant go alone you have to book a tour guide but it is absolutely gorgeous
Hey Steve my wife and I are thrilled to see you and Alicja hiking in Canada. We are Canadian and we too have been to Newfoundland but haven't done your trail. You have inspired us to try it. Thanks for the kind words about Canada 🇨🇦! Safe travels.
Thank you Steve and Alicja for taking us with you on this challenging hike. Unfortunately for my husband and myself our hiking days are over. He has neuropathy and can’t walk like he used to. Taking us along feels like we are there with you so thanks for that. God bless.
I worked at Cape Spear National Historic Site for six seasons while going to university. Quidi Vidi is pronounced "kiddy viddy." Many of the stairs and boardwalks, as well as some of the signage of The East Coast Trail have fallen into disrepair - donations to support its upkeep can be made at its official website. Thank you for featuring my hometown/-province. Cheers from Ottawa! 🇨🇦
We spent our honeymoon in Newfoundland and did a weee bit of the East Coast Trail. Good on you both. I wonder which of us traveled furthest to St. John's - we came from Vancouver Island and you from Scotland. We're now based in Nova scotia and enjoying the East Coast lifestyle. Your video brought back some good memories of The Rock - thank you, might now need to plan a return trip
New Foundland is a gorgeous part of Canada. Coastline, forest, rocky cliffs, well maintained foot paths and trails. Groomed? No, but well labeled and looked after. What a wonderful trip. A little sunshine wouldn't hurt, but hey, you can't have everything! It is what I thought it would be. Coastlines tend to be rocky, windswept, and empty. Either that or forested, steep, and lonely.
I lived in Newfoundland for 7 years. That landing looked normal. I once landed where we couldn’t see the ground until we were basically in it. St John’s airport has a special system to allow for fog landings.
HI....From Mt. Pearl NL You guys are awesome well done with that hike it isn't an easy one for sure. Cape Spear would have been open on May 24 weekend, so just shy of that cold drink hehe Looking forward to watching the rest of your travels..:D
You both absolutely “crushed” that hike!!! I turned my ankles at least 20 times just watching you cross the “bowling ball” rocks at that tidal pool. Just WOW!!!!
I'm exhausted after that Steve and Alicja well done. What a challenging hike. Thanks for taking us along it must have been extra challenging trying to film and watch your step at the same time. You both make such a good and united team. Can't wait for the next one
I got to say, in my few travels abroad, the canadians, australians and scottish people are the most friendliest people i ever known. This coming from a portuguese like me is the greatest compliment i can ever give. Thank you you to all the canadians, australian and scottish people i ever known. You all rock.
OMG ! I can’t believe you did that … I lived in St. John’s for 20 years, I would drive to Cape Spear, just for the drive. I know how long it takes. And, you did it the day after your arrival from Scotland. I would have been a DEAD person, NOT walking 😅😅😅 I felt exhausted just from watching. I am beyond shocked ! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
We really enjoyed visiting Cape Spear and Newfoundland in mid June to mid July for a month in our USA based campervan. We saw icebergs at Twillingate and puffins at Elliston! Rose & Michael
So a couple of months ago I was thinking .. " Hey we will be going through Montrose when we are on holiday.. we might see Steve Marsh ." , but no you are in Canada. ... Lol . Still 5000km from our home on Vancouver Island but on the move all the same. We are on a 75 day trip that includes a couple of weeks in Ireland - Scotland searching family history... You live in a beautiful part of the world Steve, and your Videos have helped us navigate it -- Thank you - Brian and Janet
absolutnie niesamowity film, wy dwoje. Pewnego dnia to zrobię i będzie to przyjemność. Dzięki. Frank
Great hiking you two! I love seeing our beautiful country through your eyes. Someday I'll get to NFLD but it's a long, long way from Vancouver Island! 🇨🇦❤️🏴
I am so impressed with that grinding hike. That was an endurance test that you both passed with flying colours. A great treat for this west coaster to see other end of beautiful Canada even in fog! 🇨🇦
What a wonderful, if challenging, hike! Steve, I wouldn't have dreamt of speeding up the video. I enjoyed every one of the 48 minutes in MY time. In YOUR time, that was 7 1/2 hours of challenging hiking. Kudos to both of you! Alicja, wearing that backpack and making it look easy... What can I say? 👍 Steve, from one big guy (6'2, 273 lbs) to another I can appreciate your nimbleness and endurance. Very, very well done. 👍👍 That Jacuzzi had to feel wonderful. 🙂 Thanks, once again, for sharing. This was a great way to get Tuesday off to a good start.
Gosh! That was a hard going. It certainly wasn't a stroll in the park for you both. Such a rugged place to visit and yet so beautiful. Thank you Steve and Alicja. Your adventures are always entertaining and truly appreciated.
Wow! That was one tough hike. Well done to you both. What worried me was how slippery the trail got in places and it would be so easy to go over on your ankle and then you're in a world of trouble! When Alicja did the splits my heart was in my mouth because I thought she'd hurt herself for sure, but she's one tough cookie! Looking forward to your further adventures there. Stay safe and happy trails!
That was more than just a ‘wee’ jaunt. Well done you two 👍🏼. I very much enjoyed and appreciate your work in bringing these videos of your adventures. Your videos are very comfortable to watch and listen to. Plus you both have charming personalities which come across in your presentations. Keep up the good work. 👍🏼 🇨🇦 🏴
Steve, I’m a big fan of your channel and all your hiking/walking and pub videos. Your adventures with Alicja are fantastic and I’ve watched nearly all your hiking videos now. I live in upstate New York about hour from Niagara Falls, and really enjoyed this video very much. I especially like it when you say “We are broken.” As rotten as I feel after challenging hikes, I crave the satisfaction my broken body feels afterward. I suspect it’s the same for you. Wishing you both the best and keep up the amazing work.
It was amazing that I looked at that field of stones and thought, “That’s where I’d roll my ankle…” literally followed seconds later by you talking about it being the place for rolling an ankle!
The "little fellow" at 27:46 is the first time that I've seen a squirrel in Newfoundland. Squirrels are an introduced species to the island and though they were brought in during the 1960s, they hadn't dispersed and become established until the 1970s by which time I had joined the army and moved away. But the path of your hike brought back many memories of my childhood. We often went out to Fort Amherst and Freshwater Bay.
I find it funny that you’ve left Scotland for a place that looks much like Scotland. You’ll have to go across to New Scotland … I’m from Canada and now have convinced my wife to go for a trip to NFLD…
That was some seriously spectacular scenery! And when you said in the video it wasn't the most scenic of the East Coast Trail it just blew my mind. Can't wait for the next video and fingers crossed you do manage a pub crawl because Canada has some great local breweries. 👍.
Thanks for doing this walk in Nfld ! I’ve lived my whole life in Canada but I’ve never been to Nfld. I’ll definitely watch your full series in Canada. Bravo for sharing with Cdns.
I hear the song of the white-throated sparrow on your walk! Beautiful and native to my home in Northern NY state as well- Great hike! Thank you for sharing 🎉
Thanks so much for the wonderful video much appreciated everything you say about our wonderful Country of Canada is true. I was born in London UK and immigrated here when I was 19. I now live just south of London, Ontario . All that to say keep up the good work and do visit Ontario in the future as we also have a lovely Province also .
I haven't seen anything about Newfoundland for a while. There was a movie a few years back called the shipping new (I think) A bit of a dark story but a fascinating glimpse of NL. It doesn't look as if it has changed a lot since then. NL only became part of Canada just after WW2 after it became bankrupt
A couple of years ago, my closest friend phoned me, and asked, "Do you know where I am?" He was standing at Cape Spear. I had absolutely no idea the pathway was so rough. Somehow, I'd assumed it was just a nice flat walk, maybe a bit uphill or downhill, but absolutely nothing like this. I've shared this video with him to bring back memories. So beautiful - all the way. Even the treacherous bits.
That looked like a very challenging hike but worth doing, from my comfortable chair. The smells from the pine and sea must have been so refreshing. Well done to you both as usual.
Well done! The video was so real on the big TV screen that at one point I actually raised my arm to push a tree branch out of the way 😂 I loved hiking cross country so much and hope to be able to do it again soon. In the meantime, I sort of walk with you ❤
Hats off to you both. I have walked trails much, much shorter but similar terrain - rocks, roots, uneven terrain. It was not much fun. I am not sure how you followed that trail when it seemed to disappear at times. Thanks for a very enjoyable video with fantastic scenery.
Hey Steve, this was a real adventure. I was worn out just watching the two of you climb all those hills. Coming down the hills was even more nerve racking. Don't ever worry about showing those legs of yours, they are in great shape. One of the best trips you've made yet, thanks for sharing. Take care of those legs 🦵
I have always wanted to visit St John’s but now I don’t have to - especially after watching that hike - geez…. I was exhausted watching. Beautiful video- thank you
I've done a lot of hiking in the mountains of BC and Alberta. That is the roughest trail I have ever seen! And Steve you need boots with better ankle support - none of us are getting any younger...
Amazing video. Wonderful scenery and a tough walk/climb, even moreso carrying a camera. Steve and Alicja complement each other so well in these vlogs...nice balance and humour. Quite an adventure to reach Easternmost point of Canada (North America minus Greenland).
No doubt you will both sleep well tonight, what a wonderful walk and the views, magnificent, I have to admire your stamina it is more than I could do these days so thank you so much for taking me along and I am counting the days until the next wonderful episode. Take care and stay safe, cheers from Oz.
Great at adventure guys, very well done! Newfoundlanders and other Maritimers are very friendly and hospitable; elsewhere in Canada people are less so. The trail looks exhausting, I'm sure you were both done in at the end. Hope you had a good fish dinner that evening. Looking forward to the continuation in the next installment.
What a pleasant early morning surprise. I am still In bed (5:59a) here in the eastern US. I will enjoy my coffee, be a slug and watch you two off on a long walking adventure in beautiful St John. Glad the fog is lifting. Enjoy my intrepid wanderers.❤
I waited till the weekend to watch your video! Wowzer! Fantastic trail video! And that sheer drop and very narrow path! Ooer! But what beautiful, beuatiful scenery! Hello to the Canadians! Looking forward to the next one. Cheers guys! Have a beer and good rest. Safe travels! 🙋😀🙏🏴🇮🇪
What a rugged, brutal, physically taxing path. Thanks, Steve and Alicja, for doing the hard work and letting me enjoy your experience vicariously from the comfort of my easy chair. 👍 Fingers crossed you'll visit the L'anse aux Meadows Viking Site while you're in Newfoundland.
Thank you for sharing this journey. I so appreciate your mutual respect and enjoyment of the hiking experience. I wondered several times whether you would decide to turn around, but then I've watched your adventures before and know that is not your style.
Wow - great job. I'm exhausted just watcing!!! I can't imagine walking for 7-8 hours and watching EVERY Step you took!!!! Certainly deserved that jaquizzi 🎉❤ Well done both!!
OMG, those dogs! They are adorable! I am a cynophobic, inhave an irrational fear of dogs. I am always affraid of dogs. Yet those dogs are so adorable. I could spend an entire day playing with them. Such beautiful creatures.
Fantastic work both, that trail looked brutal, the landscape was amazing, you can really tell the climate there is extreme. Superb destination choice, no wonder you decided to return to show us all its attraction. Thank you. 🙏
Loved the video 😁and if we travel to Newfoundland (which we hope soon) your video showed us one thing we won’t be doing!!!! and that’s the trail walk lol 😂😂😂 our muscles are hurting just watching 😂😂😂 you guys did a great job👍 but to see those fabulous sights we’ll take the car 🚘 😂😂😂Take care and thanks again, Pauline from Blackpool living in Canada 🍁
Amazing...I don't know how you knew that you are actually on the trail...and those cliffs, the edge of which you were walking...Amazing and how wonder full. Thank you for taking us along.
I love what you do bringing us along on your journey. I appreciate the filming because I get to see these beautiful places. I wouldn't be able to see. Thanks! And looking forward to the next ❤
Whenever you've mentioned Montrose it reminds me to say that I live just south of the community of Montrose, California. The name was chosen in 1912 in a naming contest by local residents. It won by a vote of 8! I was hoping for a better Scottish connection! 😄If you make it to Cali sometime, I'd like to see your video from Montrose!

She's a bit lighter than Steve! 😅

The joy of an unexpected (well, forgotten about) video on a Tuesday; added bonus of lighthouses! Hugely enjoyable, but not enviable ;)
I’m thinking waterproof hiking boot essential! Wow! I’m ver😊y impressed by your agility you two!
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!!!
Steve, you and Alicsya had every right to sound “moany”! I was sounding “groany” just watching that tortuous hike. Unbelievable!
Thank you for doing this so I don’t have to! 😆 Amazing hike and a great video. Thanks for taking us with you both 🇨🇦
I have always wanted to visit St John’s but now I don’t have to - especially after watching that hike - geez…. I was exhausted watching. Beautiful video- thank you
What a hike. Well done you two 😊❤
Oh, how I miss Newfoundland! It’s so beautiful. Newfoundland is the friendliest place of all. I’ve always thought it is enchanted!
I've done a lot of hiking in the mountains of BC and Alberta. That is the roughest trail I have ever seen! And Steve you need boots with better ankle support - none of us are getting any younger...
That's what I call serious hiking. Great that you got a lift back, I can't imagine having to do it all again to get home.
You two blow me away!! What a hike. Well done and thank you for a lovely trip. 🎉
Well done to you both. I felt for you both on the difficult parts of the trail. ❤ the video and look forward to the next.
Another vicarious hike with Steve and Alicija, phew 👍👍
What a pleasant early morning surprise. I am still
In bed (5:59a) here in the eastern US.
Years ago I drove to Cape Spear from Virginia, taking two Ferries, Love New Foundland and it’s people
Thank you for sharing this journey.
Wow! I admire your tenacity in doing this trail. Well done, especially considering the terrain and weather.
Fantastic work both, that trail looked brutal, the landscape was amazing, you can really tell the climate there is extreme. Superb destination choice, no wonder you decided to return to show us all its attraction. Thank you. 🙏
......what an incredible place. You two work well as a team, supporting and mentoring. Excellent vlog.😎☯️🌱
Thank you. I got tired just watching!
Wow guys .Well done .That path looked treacherous!
Great vlog as always, poor Alicja having to carry the pack all the time, could split the load xx
Thank you so much for sharing this, it really looks amazing!!
Well done both 👏 👍
Amazing...I don't know how you knew that you are actually on the trail...and those cliffs, the edge of which you were walking...Amazing and how wonder full. Thank you for taking us along.
That was some hike! I’ve always wanted to see that area. Now, via you, I have. Thanks for taking us along. I hope you’ve recovered from all the steps.
Brilliant!!!
Fabulous, both of you, and well done. So enjoy your videos.
What a great adventure - you two are quite amazing! And a pleasant surprise video in the beginning of the week.
