Viviane looks younger than her little brother, Colin, as he got to feel alive in every moment while she'd only come to know war, and their eyes seem to portray their different life experiences through the amount of sparkle in their eyes with Colin's being full of it and Viviane's having little. The war has costed her so much from her body to her soul. She may not have died, though she hadn't lived either. It was always bitter glory. In the end, I think that as she sheds a tear for what she's lost, she begins her journey to not just exist but to really live. She breaks the tough front she was forced to put up in order to see the wonder of the world. I thoroughly enjoyed this. The style, animation, music, sound design and voice acting was all great. Thank you for making a fantastic short film!
Also she has been made into a spider-cyborg
Maybe is that her body aged but the new body that she was attached to kept her Brain and head like new and gave her the ability to control the mech
Could not have foreseen the twists and turns of this one. I love the airbrushed backgrounds and 80s fantasy cartoon feel. Just an amazing work of art, I am so inspired.
Often times we see the destruction caused from losing loved ones in war, but we don't often see the harm caused when returning from war. As we all know, war is a terrible thing, but to think that it's very existence can still damage people returning from the aftermath equally as dying in wartime is only even more disheartening. You really do lose everything when war arises.
but people do, wdym?
Dude, that's PTSD. There's lots of media that has touched on the topic.
Edit: this kid went back to edit their comment so now mine makes no sense :(
I love how much stylization there is in this one. The ways the eyes are shaped to the airbrushed backgrounds. The amount of emotion and life in these characters is amazing. And hats off to the voice actors too!
Gives me major Interstella 5555 vibes!
For those who don't read french, the title is a play on words, "Gloire Amère 40000" sounds like Warhammer 40.000 (edit: and actually means bitter glory).
I feel like the story started as a question: "What would happen if a Space Marine won the eternal war against the enemies of Humanity?" and then just developed from there.
That question is actually asked in some of the Horus Heresy books. Some space marines wonder what life would be like for them when, or if, the fighting ended. Most truly believe that the war will be eternal and that they will always be needed, but some still cling on to the hope that one day the endless war will stop. Of course, the war never does end and most of the space marines from that series are either dead or worse
I thought it shared inspiration with warhammer. Good catch
Of course there are the Warhammer 40k vibes, but somehow the overall esthetics remind me more of 1980s anime like Aura Battler Dunbine (the stylized wings on the suit of armor) and JRPGs like Xenogears. The end credits wouldn't be out of place in a Falcom game, too. Also the final boss dragon appears to me to be the love child of King Ghidorah and Maleficent, it is like two souls have found each other to conceive that glorious abomination in a last attempt to wreck all of creation.
i thought it was a combination of gundam and berserk
@@poiuytrewq3546 Thats what I was thinking too!
How in heaven's name was this a thesis film from a student? Very much please make a behind-the-scenes look on the processes behind this amazing work. I am dying to know 😭
Kudos to everyone who made this wonderful film 💖💖
When there a no more monsters to battle, returning to a sense normalcy becomes a true struggle.
This is one of the most visually impressive short films I have ever watched. Hooked on since the first seconds, incredible work!
yes!! i agree
The most impactful statement I ever heard in primary school..
"Nobody wins a war"
No matter how extravagant the external battles are, the internal battles are even greater if not equal - true sense of self is the ultimate victory.
This was a crazy joyride. Love the art direction and the storytelling. Kudos to all of you and your hardwork guys. 🔥🔥🔥
Wow, this was not what I was expecting at all and it blew me away, I was moved emotionally so much and so shocked by every twist and turn, what an amazing film
Oooh this was amazing, so much was going on! It gives me 80s-techno-lord of the rings vibes❤️
The visuals are insane, from the smooth animation to the framing of the scenes! Wonderfully done!
It's like an animated album cover, magnificent!
Alright, this is it, this is my favourite short of the year
that's incredible, although I must admit I was not ready for the anime eyes.
best one so far. Awesome work, big thanks to all team for sharing such beautiful piece of art
In the course of a few years, out of all the goblelins animated films ive watched, i must admit, this was my favorite so far...Fvck, anyone working in goblelins are pure impersonifications of art.
Loved it, that airbrushed feel and stylization to it all was really interesting to see, the opening shots and music really made an impact on me
WOW. This should be a feature length film! I really enjoyed it!
I am moved to tears. This is beautiful.
Watched this two more times. I can’t get over it. It makes me cry so easily.
I wish there was an extension of the song at 5:24, it's just that cool. Also, glad to see animators using trance music in animation! It's too underutilized, and always a pleasant surprise when I DO see someone use it
If I could like this 1000 times I would. One of the most impactful short films I've ever seen.
Anyone else noticed the reference to Mass Production Eva Series from Neon Genesis Evangelion at 0:23?
Evangelion jumpscare
this is a Ghibli movie summarized through a retro, fantasy-techno lense
Beautiful and nostalgic!!
"Did you know brother, that everytime I look into the mirror, my ghost body always haunts me? Sometimes, I wish everything ends peacefully. Until I realize, the battle does not rest now."
Absolutely dripping with style and delightfully weird. Impeccable
This looks amazing!
This armor puts Warhammer 40k armors to shame xD
Maybe that's why it is called "Gloire Amere 40000"?
Most definitely
this is the coolest thing i have ever seen
Amazing
Truly amazing film, hats off to all the crew who made this
I have no words! Just phenomenal.
I was looking forward to this one. That intro is metal af!
Oh my god. This is to animation like truffles to chocolate. The style in the end frame reminds me a bit of Rachel Maclean
Damm this was beautiful holy shit
Man, this was so remarkable. It didn't pull you along with the narrative as much as tear from your seat and drag you through it!
literally OBSESSED. easily my favorite film of the year so far
I love the maleficent-inspired dragon beast
Watching this gave me so much energy.
It's fantastic.
Holly...this was amazing! Great job on this one! The beginning and the style is soo coool...
Love from Scotland 🏴!!!
On peut voir la ref a Warhammer 40k ! C'est une excellente animation !
I found scene from Berserker (00:13), End of Evangelion (00:22) and Di - vampire hunter (00:53).
What else?
Oh.
01:35
Metal Hurlant meets Five Star Stories! 🤟🏻
by far my favorite of 2022.
We need more of this kind of animation...
It's overwhelming. I respect your ability. Thank you.
M'enfin ! Vivement un volume 2.
Très sympa ^^
Bonne continuation, au plaisir.
This looks incredible! So creative
The characters look ugly in such a beautiful way. It’s so hard to explain, but it just works
Y'all have so much talent!! Congratulations on all of your hard work made real 🥰 🎊
well done !! it's so so so good
Original Scenario, Great visuals and animation, funny details, emotions, music that lift the the scenes. Great art over here 😊Congrats to everyone involved!
Magnifique 😍 Bravo
wow that was sick. god i wish animated movies with heart like this were being made....
I have chills! So sick, loved it!
Wow. Just wow.
Wow!! Vraiment trop beau!
that was amazing and sad and it was great!
Bravoooo
C'est absolument fascinant comme film
the artstyle omg! it reminds me of my early art, even the colors!
Good animation
Beautiful story 😊🙂😊🙂😊🙂
Okay this is my favourite thing ever im so in love with the style
The music and sound design in the beginning was sick as!
J’adore!
Really feels like the mix between Disney (Maleficent in the sleeping beauty with the dragon) and 80´s anime!
Love it!
Wow amazing!
this absolutely deserves more views than it has now. I think it isn't as popular because of the 3d used throughout, but this just shows how beautiful 3d animation can be. This is an amazing work of art that captivated me to it's end.
Its been out for just 1 day.
@GLOIRE AMERE 40 000 I think the animation could use more in-between or animate the frame on 2's instead, the animation is kind of choppy in motion because you animated on 3' or 4'.
@GLOIRE AMERE 40 000 Yeah, I was thinking about how I could be wrong about that. It looks fantastic either way and I can't imagine the work that had to be put into it.
@@ryantheanimator1156 i don't think it looks choppy at all. Lots of animations rely on 3's or 4's and look fine. This is the same. I am boggled that this wasn't 3d though, like, what??
@@user-gh7mt4ye7j how did you execute that opening fight scene with just 2d? i'm kind of flabbergasted
It’s very hard to get airbrushing to look right, for that alone this video is magnificent!
Sooo incredible! Intense!
J'adore j'adore j'adore
Get in the fucking robot, Shinji!
But seriously, it's always bugged me how pilots are always totally out of proportion to their mechas. The idea that there is a *really* serious sacrifice needed to be a pilot is a good one.
stunning!!
😳
it's gonna be my fav one
Fine animation
wooow vert impressive ! I love it
amazing amazing amazing
Omg omg so happy!!!!
So excited!
So cool
