I can't believe the amount of people complaining about wet ice.. Like we have the technology of fridges that break the ice apart, and also the technology of gently shaking a container to break apart ice 😅 I'm young and if I ever need to buy an ice tray when I move out, I'll be going for an aluminum or stainless steel one. Y'all underestimate how bad plastic or silicone can get, and I've never owned a dishwasher to not have to worry about it. If a modern ice tray works for you, that's awesome. But they're not objectively better. I'm not trying to imply that vintage metal ice trays are better than modern ones either. Just impressed by the negativity.
I know it! It's so ODD to me that people are whining about wet ice.. like what? Weird! Anyway, if you do get some aluminum ice trays, you may want to make sure that you fill them with cold water and never warm or hot. The warm water makes the ice taste odd. Use cold. That's just my tip for you for being so kind and commenting! Thank you!
Ugh! It's the freaking time limit on the shorts!! I wanted to show you the cubes, but Oooh nooo, freaking time limit! Sorry about that. And my names Nate! lol
Thats exactly what we did nobody back in days didnt have ice makers. I remember grandparents had old puctures of big blocks of ice being drlivered n a shute outside the house where they deliver coal that fall down in basement to a bin where u shovel coal from into a coal burning furnance to heat the house.
Needing to wet the ice means if you want to out back into the freezer in an ice bucket its going to be a giant frozen clump. Im glad we have ice makers nowadays.
Oh, Man, thank you! I used these as a kid. Until the plastic ones came along, this was all you had except for alumin pans and an ice pick. They froze lifgtenung fast but freezer sections were very small, so there wasn’t room for lots of extra cubes. So, you were alotted a cube or two per person, at meals. And Only at meals, no ice water in the middle of the day unless you had done something to earn it, like mowing a big lawn. I loved it back then, kids pulled their weight, families ate together and moms stayed home and raised their kids themselves
Ive been using these from the 60s. Another hint after running them under the water, was to give them a good hit on a solid surface, and out thy fell. Don't forget to immediately fill them back up and put them in the freezer to prevent bleeding from some part of your body .
See my pops would always freeze glasses with a little water in them at an angle. When we would go to eat he would always pull out a frozen glass and fill it with soda 🤣
I love the big ice cubes. Tip. the bottom of the ice tray bends or bows out, bend it back and the cubes pop out easily. The stainless are stronger but take longer to melt the cubes off.
We use 18/10 stainless trays so we don't end up with smells (silicone) or plastic flakes in our ice. We usually just leave it on the counter for 5 minutes then it cracks no problem, but running water over it works in a pinch.
I grew up with plastic trays from the 80's. Hot water to the back for a couple seconds was my go to. I much prefer to let my fridge do all the work now.
Also, I found what works is just setting it on the counter with a towel underneath, set timer for 5 minutes or so, just make sure you don't forget about it, because then you've made water
I often melt my ice to help it come out of the tray faster
It's interesting though how many people aren't aware of how to use the aluminum ones. Thanks for your comment.

I typically do use them all, but I find that they don't freeze together any more than ice stuck back into a freezer of a modern age.
I forgot about these.
Learned this 45 years ago, thanks for reminding me ❤
Absolutely!
Exactly some people just don’t use common sense. And most people today don’t even have common sense let alone use it.😂
It's amazing that the "trick" to using old or outdated devices is usually just to use common sense.
It is indeed!
I dont got time for this when i want an ice cube lmao
Well, not everything is for you then, is it? No, it isn't. Neither is this video.
Why did I just watch a Mrs.fallout short that was using this tray now this video pops up on my feed 🧐🤨🤔
Synchronicity, baby!
Love the vintage swing music in the background along side the vintage accessories 👏🤣
Its not swing music 😂😂
Funny how he had to change the tray out for another one because the first ones fins are so bend that it never ever would have worked like intended.
The first one was fine.
I like how everyone's upset about plastic waste until it becomes an inconvenience.
I can't believe the amount of people complaining about wet ice.. Like we have the technology of fridges that break the ice apart, and also the technology of gently shaking a container to break apart ice 😅
I'm young and if I ever need to buy an ice tray when I move out, I'll be going for an aluminum or stainless steel one.
Thank you!
You didn’t let us see the ice cubes. Goddammit Ron!
Ugh! It's the freaking time limit on the shorts!! I wanted to show you the cubes, but Oooh nooo, freaking time limit! Sorry about that. And my names Nate! lol
My grandma use to have those.
They were a pain in the ass even if wet them.
Good memories.
Me who just bangs the ice tray on the counter like a barbarian 🤯
I remember our first refrigerator with a built-in ice maker 😂😂😂😂 now i feel old 🤔😭😭😭😭
My refrigerator came pre-loaded with ice. I’m actually kind of amazed that it hasn’t run out yet.
Aluminium's ability to conduct / transfer heat is always surprising to me.
I admire this level of dedication to the bowling shirt guy lifestyle
Thanks so much, Jaygee!
Thats exactly what we did nobody back in days didnt have ice makers. I remember grandparents had old puctures of big blocks of ice being drlivered n a shute outside the house where they deliver coal that fall down in basement to a bin where u shovel coal from into a coal burning furnance to heat the house.
Oh wow! That's pretty incredible! Loved hearing this! Thanks so much for sharing!
Back when micro plastics weren’t a big problem
Needing to wet the ice means if you want to out back into the freezer in an ice bucket its going to be a giant frozen clump. Im glad we have ice makers nowadays.
For those who are trying to cut back on microplastics
I have that got it at a yard sale and I love it
I'm glad you love yours. Those who know, know! Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for posting, my grandmothers had her ice stuck in hers for 20 years, she can finally enjoy a cold beverage
See my pops would always freeze glasses with a little water in them at an angle. When we would go to eat he would always pull out a frozen glass and fill it with soda 🤣
I use the chunky plastic ones and love them to death but this seems so cool too
They show this so many times in the new Ripley series that I feel like I've used these bad boys all my life despite never seeing one in real life.
I've yet to see it!
I wonder if my grandma still has one of these in her freezer. I remember sticking my tongue to it when i was a kid lol
This tastes better as it rinses the freezer taste off of the ice.
I figured this out as a child. It was a game changer.
Havent thought about these in a while. My grandmas husband had one of these in his house even though their new fridge made ice.
We did this with the crappy plastic kind too.
I love the big ice cubes. Tip. the bottom of the ice tray bends or bows out, bend it back and the cubes pop out easily. The stainless are stronger but take longer to melt the cubes off.
I miss those trays! My dad showed me how to use our ice trays like that in the 1960's
We use 18/10 stainless trays so we don't end up with smells (silicone) or plastic flakes in our ice. We usually just leave it on the counter for 5 minutes then it cracks no problem, but running water over it works in a pinch.
and now your frozen ice is no longer frozen, congratz
Yeah. I'm pretty sure it'll be okay! hahaa..
Snap. I just got two of these in a free bin and hadn't started using them because i didn't know how -- thank you!
These ice cube trays will forever remind me of the time Martha Stewart made a "perfect glass of water" on her show. I was done with her after that.
lmao!
It sounds weird but I kinda miss the frost on these trays and how sometimes your fingers got stuck on the tray.
I bought 1 just resently, mostly coz of the novelty value. And i wish it was that easy.
It is! Should work every time!
