- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Two brothers Matthew, 22 and Andrew, 18, had attempted to climb 10,000ft to the summit of a volcano in Bali to see the sunrise but got lost on the way down. They went missing for 40 hours after their phones went dead. However, after an incredible rescue mission, the boys were eventually found "weak, but alive" thanks to survival tips they learned online from adventurer Bear Grylls. Now, after returning home Matthew and Andrew are on the sofa alongside their mum Katherine.

Well done the Indonesian rescuers!! Terima kasih banyak2, the real unsung HEROES of this story 🥹🙌🏼🇮🇩❤️
at first I thought the title meant they were lost because of bear grills 🤣
Me too
Always tell someone when you should be back. Always. So many stories ended badly when they didn’t need to, all because people didn’t say where they were going, went off course without warning others, and didn’t say when they should be back.
This is a rich persons problem so luckily something I will never need to worry about 😂
stop being so condescending
Always feel for the older brother who sounds a decade younger then his baby brother 😂 but well done guys glad your both ok
Random.
40 hours 😂 am I missing something? So they went camping 🤷♂️
My thoughts exactly. They had an entire day of daylight to walk back out the undergrowth back up the hill to find another way. How big was this volcano?!
As bear said, their lack of preparation was the main cause.
Definitely not a survival story, but it’s great they made it back and have this story to tell!
Sad to hear about their Dad, I’m sure he was very proud of them both
This world is beyond wett 😂
I could survive 40 hours almost anywhere 😂
40 hours without knowing when you will be found. Also no equipment to camp
Posh boys getting coverage cos mummy and daddy were scared. Oh no!!
Mom is beautiful, bless them
That mountain is very crowded with many villages and farms around it. Most climbers die there due to accidents or hypothermia. The rainforest weather can change dramatically from hot and humid to sudden cold and heavy rain.
Always prepare for the worst when you trying to do something dangerous in un familiar environment.
Mate I’ve done a 5 days sesh with no food
normally a headline like this would say the name of the volcano, which makes me question whether they were defying the laws and that the 'lights of the tourists' may well have been the lights of the locals doing a sacred ceremony. Either way, the Balinese are getting sick to death of tourists that have no respect for the culture and traditions and of the people. Saying 'our Dad was an Australian' let me give you the tip - if an Aussie made this mistake they would be so deeply embarrassed they wouldn't be going on the news about it, they'd be really quiet and probably only speak about it in hushed tones after a few drinks. All brains, no commonsense, and no respect. Not to mention - with currency conversions a tour guide is as cheap as chips, and to not hire one is just completely and utterly tight. and they are coming to Australia in the worst part of our winter. Nice. I imagine that it will be great. Bring your woollies, its harsh. edited to give a tip: when you are 'despatching to the oceans' .. do NOT stand on the rocks. the waves get really big and rock fisherman from overseas get swept out and drown fairly regularly.
I can just imagine Bear Grylls using this story as an example he always tells on his shows lol.
Both phones started to run out battery, should have switched one off , then would have had a backup.
private education clearly didnt help with these bys common sense
Surviving 40 hours in the jungle 😂 sounds like a great time don’t know what all the fuss is about
especially in indonesia..
Exactly
Later on sure, but during it is the uncertainty that gets everyone. Nobody knew it would have been just 40 Hrs. More than that, if anyone had gotten injured or ill, the outcome would have been different.
2:14 are we sure they didn’t wanna choose that route knowingly, thinking they’d get a more private experience? I know of someone who did something similar. They went on a closed route up a mountain so they could avoid tourists. Had this huge slice of mountain all to themselves. Thankfully it didn’t go badly for them, but it could’ve, and no one would’ve known where to look for them. I hope it wasn’t that and wasn’t willful choices that got them there. If so, I did believe they should be held financially liable for any costs of the rescue. If not..well.. still people, do your research. Our lives are so easily lost. Ill planning speeds that up exponentially.
2:33 "the app was showing you could go *with a guide*". I suspect you're right.
Those mountains aren't to be taken lightly, it's not like going for a walk in the Costwalds. Agree that they probably didn't want a guide or wanted to avoid tourists, that's understandable. But there's a reason most people go with guides, they know the terrain far better than we do. Been up the mountain in Lombok (island opposite Bali) and would have been super scary without a guide. Fair play to them for staying calm, hopefully they've learned a valuable lesson
@@misskiz786 plus they know the culture and will not take tourists to 'sacred ceremonial parts' of any mountains. Tourists are morons, they have now been banned completely on Mt Agung, I'm interested to know why they never named the volcano.. probably because its illegal for them to walk.
40 hours? That's still miles from death by dehydration being a concern rofl. "survived"... jeez.
Just wondering how many commenting here have any idea of travel in Indonesia away from full on tourist areas. They seem to be loo,ing at things simplistically.
I'm surprised they survived school never mind 40 hours on top of a Volcano
Fax
😂😂😂😂😂
1. Well said
2. I know what you're REALLY saying
3. I agree with you.
😂
Why is this a story worthy of being on TV?
40 hours you can survive without food and water
Could have been longer if they hadn't followed the river they learned from Bear Grylls 🤷🏼♀️
gap yar
😂
He’ll have some good stories to tell to his new friends at Durham, Exeter or more likely Oxford Brookes from the looks of his intelligence levels
I couldn't survive 40 hours watching Jerry Springer reruns.
Jangan nakal lagi, aku kasian pada ibumu. Tuhan masih sayang kamu, Tuhan tau ibumu sedang mengkhawatirkan dirimu. Kamu di jaga Tuhan sepanjang waktu, doa ibumu di dengarkan Tuhan. Minta maafkah pada ibumu dan jangan nakal lagi.
On my gap yarrrr
This just came up on my feed. Turns out I met them one night in Bali just before this happened😂Good to hear they are okay🙏
How do you get lost climbing a volcano? Just keep climbing 😂😂
Well done boys (my nephews - estranged) glad you're going to take dads ashes to Perth. Trigg beach hopefully!!! Contact me if you would like to talk about your father !!!
Wasn't ready for the poshness of the accents on the gents ...feel free to cancel me for saying this but the reason young Essex geezers don't get lost on volcano sides (whilst on holiday) is ...Essex geezers actually have more sense than posh yobbos who should know better but never really put in the time. I grew up in the countryside and I know how to go slightly off-road. Just saying.
That’s cause mummy and daddy don’t teach them anything!
Absolute goon
well done boys! On the other hand, why are the presenters talking to these young lads like they are little kids: " well done you remembered everything that b.g said", when all they have done was to follow the river. With all due respect that is not a genius thing (or advice from b.g), everyone knows that....in some countries this would be a common sense thing to do and no one would be impressed. UK has to stop nannying the youngsters
Great brothers, obviously well brought up. God ..... and Bear Grylls was with'em! 😉 Good one boys, you'll remember your nice world trip together .❤🩹
poshy education clearly didn't work
Based
I’m getting the word…….
GEEK
You could survive 40 hours by simply laying on the floor and sleeping through it
so they spent hours walking up a volcano, realised they were lost and walked back? why is this on the news?
All those years in school, but not smart enough to follow the proper tourist routes up the volcano 😂
Seems like a skill issue to me 🙅🏼♀️
Jay Slater shoulda watched more Bear and Ross Kemp
As Indonesian this is so funny 😂
Being cheap without guide, that's why. Lucky both, life learned.
sound like torys as well should've been able to afford it
40 hours I’ve had longer 💩’s
take a kid from the hood he wouldnt need bear grrylls he would get back the same way he got up an nothing would have been heard of it
Always, always take a local guide.. 2phone with one turned off..
Exactly, Bali is big
lol, 40 hours haha!
Absolute non story.
Know it all....do you ????????
They look like Prince Harry lookalikes😮
