There is a bit of a Tour de France vibe to this great idea Nick. Every stage of the tour we get to see the castles and surrounding areas using an aerial view. It's really cool. Really looking forward to this new series. 👍
Hey, Nick. Just got back from 4 weeks in Portugal visiting my friends from decades ago. I was lucky enough to stay in fantastic country houses (for free!!) near Tomar (Chaos and Seiça). I'm with you about living in the countryside. Beautiful and calming as it is, it would be difficult for a city person to settle there. Got my fix of hustle and bustle for a week in Parede (Lisbon), though, for me, Lisbon has gone way too touristic now.
I love this video and love your idea of visiting all the castles, it's great to see some of Portugal that I know I would never otherwise see, and the scenery is amazing. Great Idea.
@AlgarveAddicts I thought about it while watching the video and wanted to comment. By the time it was over, I forgot. Because of the great content of the video, I forgot all about it. Or maybe it's I forgot because I am old. 😉
I love your videos, my man. Relaxing and informative, and always very professionally done. I especially enjoy the added historical information you include on an area. Much appreciated.
Beautifully shot and narrated, thank you. We live on the Algarve but have been tempted by this area because properties are super cheap, there are a lot of 'alternative' people, and there is a Clonlara school opening in Idanha-da-Nova (awaiting a license from the Ministry of Education). That said, the small town mentality you mention is rife, and can be difficult, the weather can be challenging, and it's so far from the ocean, as again you mention. Given your interest in education (BGA), perhaps you could interview the folks behind the Clonlara school. Thanks Nick, great episode.
@@AlgarveAddicts Hahaha... get some lekker SA stand in for our dearest Lara... that could be fun! Mind you... you could pay me to do some of the gory falling scenes... or then, maybe not!! PS - I'm liking your sense of humour... and also you very well presented content... I promise I'll keep bugging you with comments!😁😁
Hé Nick, great video. We have a house close to Alpedrinha in the village of Castelo Novo. It’s great to live there. Fundao has a load of shop’s and nice people everywhere!
I could be tempted to live in an area like this *as long as* I could find a well insulated house (from the winter chill and the summer heat). As I commented in your last video, cold outside temperatures in winter don’t bother me, especially if it’s sunny (in fact cold, sunny days are the best days) - just put a warm coat on, problem solved - but I wouldn’t want to spend a cold winter in a badly insulated house with not much heating. It’s hard to ignore the huge gulf in property prices compared to the Algarve. Having said that, I’ve never been to this part of Portugal. I plan to go back to Portugal in October (ish) so maybe I’ll have some time to explore it myself this time and to see how it feels to me.
@@AlgarveAddicts I just have to say I must borrow your statement. That was " rich!" Out of " the blue" last night I thought of it and burst out laughing. I suppose it's because I was reared in a town like that. Thx again. I look forward to seeing future videos. Best wishes.
Beautiful area and i certainly understand why people would love to live there. But I am with you Nick, I'll enjoy it all on short trips. Its not for me to live there. I think the castle tour is a great idea for a video series. I think youll get many more views as people visiting every part of the country can use it for short day trips away from their vacation bases.
“Life is slow” sounds great to me, turned 60 and life is going too fast, but a big fight with wife about retiring in Portugal, she wants to be here in the states and I can’t wait to go back….closer to the ocean (we have properties in Foz do Arelho shared with her 2 brothers).
Very well put together video using google earth to not only show where you are referring to but also distance to other developed areas and topography. Although I’m not a fan of the Algarve I have subscribed, thanks for your effort putting this together.
Thanks for your kind comment, Sarah. It's funny how many international people I've met up north who aren't huge fans of the Algarve. I guess that's why you live further north 😁 I love exploring the interior and can't wait to journey up to the Aldeias do Xisto.
It is subject to affordability for most of us I think. Yes I would love to live in the Algarve but I also hate to pay silly prices on the top of the mortgage crisis. Both area are lovely.
Oh no 🙈 what’s about the heat and wildfire I am not sure maybe in the winter 🥶 time just to be on the safe side 😅and the language one has to speak perfect Portuguese 😢
All Countrys have this kind of places far from the big citys..but if you are young and like activity, this will boring after some months, That is why young people always want to go out of places like this ..they want more activity, football, teather, cinema, expositions, museuns, travel outside, partys at night, beach, Basketsball, race cars, Shopping centers....
True, hence the massive urbanisation in Portugal and most other counties. I feel there is a smaller move back by others who seek a more peaceful and slower life.
I agree, I’m in central portugal in the mountains but can be at the ocean at a nice beach in less than 1-1/4 hours. Not to mention there will be for the majority of the trip beautiful scenery and of course no traffic.
Beautiful country. Sorry to say Americans won’t be as excited about Portugal until the country fixes the double taxation on pensions problem. ☹️ Maybe someone who knows someone in high finance can lobby their lawmakers to fix that problem! 😉
Hi Nick, love your idea of touring the 62 castles along Portugal's borders. Will definitely keep my eye open for them!
Thanks Dave!

Me too! I'm excited, I'm trying to figure out how to connect with more people on the way.

Hey Glenn, glad you had a good time! 👍🏼

Thanks Susan, let's hope the tour is a success. I'm sitting next to a castle right now :)
@6:50 Wow these portugese take driving to a whole new level! Not only on the left, but also backwards!
Haha I noticed that too
Hehe, I was waiting for someone to say something about that 🤣

It's so good reading comment like yours. I really appreciate it.
Brutally honest and hits all the boxes. Never the less beautiful country.
Can not wait ❤️

You're welcome Jed, and I'd love to chat to those people at the school. Maybe when I pass by on my grand castle tour of Portugal!
Good luck with the tour, Nick!
Awesome Nick. Thanks for showing todays locations. I recognized a lot of those places from other vids. I love the area.
Me too, I loved filming it. What a treasure.
Loved the tour. great upload. Thanks a lot
Thanks for watching, Chris 👍🏼
Love this idea to visit all the castles! How exciting!
I'm excited too, it's going to take a long time though :)
Yes to castle tour because you explain so much about the history and locale.
Great project... I'm looking forward to see all those stone structures!!!
Sadly the project wasn't that well received. I might have to go back with Lara Croft or some other famous person!

You have to visit Almeida and Sortelha!!!
On the list!

Awesome, thanks for watching! 👍🏼
The castles project sounds epic! 🏰🙌🏽
Thanks!
Loved the history you provided. The 62 castle project sounds like fun, hope you’ll do it. I’m with you, I don’t think I could live that far inland 😊
Nicely done Nick. I would love to see the castle at Monsaraz (one of the things on my bucket list).
I've got you covered! I'm heading there soon. 👍🏼

If you're buying you can always insulate it yourself.
Badly insulated houses are just about everywhere in PT!!!!
Fantastic as always !
Thank you Louis!
I’d enjoy watching them 👍
Another great and artistically well-produced episode 👍👍
Thank you ZE 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Looking forward to this as I'm off to there next week.
Where are you headed?
@@AlgarveAddicts Tomar, Leiria, Alcobaça, Caldhas Da Raina and then using CdR as a base for day trips.
Sounds central 😊

🤣

I hope so. I'm sitting in front of a massive castle right now! Crazy cool.
Excellent content… beautiful photography you have managed to show the area better than the many content providers who actually live in the area…
Wow, that's a wonderful compliment, thank you Suzy. Maybe it's fresh eyes on the spot, who knows.
I live just south of your base. We love being here. Monsanto is a tourist spot. Tomar is a very livable city but for me a bit too large.
We seem to be going up there just about every year now.

Great tour Nick! Any plans to visit Guarda?
Yes, eventually, it's included in the castles list.

I love 💕 the see too more beautiful 😂and fun 🤩
Great country, . Why have so many left ?.
Better opportunities in the city. Like urbanisation everywhere.

Apparently you can find some online these days 😉
True, hence the massive urbanisation in Portugal and most other counties. I feel there is a smaller move back by others who seek a more peaceful and slower life.
Beside the proximity to the ocean i think Algarve,Lisbon and Porto is huge overated when you discover the inner of Portugal!!
I agree, but it depends on what you want from life. If it's peace, quiet, and beauty, then the interior is definitely top of the list.

Not for me 😂I think 🤔
You didn't go to --> Castelo Novo, Sortelha, Belmonte. Big mistake.
Really? I've heard Sortelha is interesting.
All of the above are Very nice, put them on your GPS. Thank me later.@@AlgarveAddicts
All the castles follow the border with Spain 😂😂
Yup, that's why they're there 😊👍🏼
Move to Portugal and get taxed on your precious state pension. No Thank You.
With the NHR on the way out, your comment is definitely true. Sadly death and taxes are the two truths in life.
