One thing that concerns me about living in central Portugal is the need to drive everywhere. How dependent on a car would someone be living in a town like Alpedrinha? or Fundão? I do what to thank you for this organized presentation and especially the way you orient us to the physical locations and relations of the towns. The footage and honest commentary ain't bad either! :)
Hey 👋 we live near Fundão and we do use our vehicles a lot but that’s because we like to explore. Fundão has everything you could need though (in our opinion) so it could be possible to walk or use a push bike if you lived in the city 😃 there’s a guy that lives in our village who we sometimes give lifts to into Fundão he gets around ok.
I'd say you'd definitely need a car in a country location like these spots. Without doubt.
@@jonnyandsamofficial was going to say that a gas-sipping motorcycle might be good too. Looks like you two are already there. I think a Honda NC750 would be a great choice if one can transfer a high-capacity motorcycle driver's license to Portugal. But I also know from a December trip up north that rain and snow would make a car indispensable a few months of the year unless one were pretty close to a stocked town.

@@AlgarveAddicts I've never driven in my life, my eyesight is not good enough to have a driving license, and I lived in the interior for a good part of my life and still go there often ALWAYS by public transport. From my village, I walk 5 minutes trough a forest to the nearest bus stop that will take me as far as Lisbon (Orient) and Lisbon airport. Direct trip in less than 2 hours. Several bus services daily. From Lisbon airport I've flown everywhere in the globe.
You don't need a car, you can have very good quality of life without one specially if you live solo without dependents.
Check long distance routes and connections, they exist, and they'll take you anywhere you wish to go.
In Italy 🇮🇹 is cheaper and more properties

Thank you for everything. But stop causing me to dream of living in Portugal again. I gave up on moving because the US financial picture is so bleak. But when, I watch your videos I dream of being there once again. I was in Europe and visited Portugal for one month. After that I was convinced it was the place for me. I just did not know the processes in Portugal to make it happen.

The central Portugal is very interesting. Who does not want to make a bargain when bying a property? But for me the winterweather is very important. I am planing to avoid the terrible Swedish winters and stay somewhere in the sun in Portugal during the wintermonths. So finding a bargain will be tough, unfortunally, since the South is the only option for me. But, looking forward to your next video.
Be cautious about the home building standards in Portugal. You will be warmer in a Swedish home than a Portuguese one!
So many are pitifully constructed! Hard to cool in Summer and expensive to heat in Winter.

windows. I don't know if that is true so i

Being cold *outside* in the winter wouldn’t bother me at all, especially if it’s sunny - but I don’t think I could live in a house that was cold *inside* in the winter.
Yes winter isn't that wonderful up in the centre, you'll need a well insulated home.

How disappointing, you gave us no idea about the home prices.
I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed Suzi, your dream home is very different to anothers. Now that I have pointed out the areas you're well equipped to have a look at www.idealista.com for a home in the area where you'll get an accurate and up to date representation.
I would guess that the further out you go, the less they speak English. That would be a big issue for me.
Spot on, it'll be a lot tougher than in the Algarve or Lisbon.

In procsss of buying a nice hectare in central potugal (coimbra the third city cos far less hilly!) and leaving Spain. dont have money for a home on it yet haha will deal with that next... , I just wanted a nice plot and the home is really of secondary importance. I might put a coupleof glamping tents on it to raise a few euros
Check the legalities before you do it. It's often a complicated affair. Even tents.
Hi Nick - would love more of these types of videos exploring hidden gems off the beaten path.
Its tough for me, I often see videos with "hidden gem" in the title and the places are so obvious, they're not hidden at all. Difficult to choose what is really hidden these days :)))
@@AlgarveAddicts Fair point, Nick! This video covered more of the Central region so some of the places may not be on tips of people's tongues...yet! In the Algarve, perhaps places like Marmalete, Estoi, or Caldas de Monchique. But there are others that may be best kept hidden 😄

@@AlgarveAddicts Thanks for the great videos. I have friend moving to Faro in October and I think I'm on my way to Portugal in a couple of years as well. I like the Algarve best because of the climate. The only thing I didn't care for was the ocean temperature. You can really swim there because the water is so cold. The people are amazing.

@@AlgarveAddicts You're right Nick, they are very different. We are really mountain people as that is where we grew up but I think renting in a quieter area of the Algarve may be a good place to be for a while. This would give us a chance to get by with some English and make some preliminary adjustments to the culture.

@@AlgarveAddicts You can drive on the highway from Porto to Chaves or Bragança, two charming cities in the North. Between these two cities, you'll come across Vinhais. If you enjoy nature, then you'll find it there. This week, the weather is expected to be rainy, so it will be humid and perhaps less hot.
But from Faro to Chaves, you can also take the N2 road, National Route 2. It's one of the longest roads in the world. Enjoy it.
