Your description of why long hauls are cool and "worth flying" at the beginning of the video was spot on. The feeling of TOD into JFK after an 8 hour flight from Charles de Gaulle is unparalleled. Great video overall :)
AviationPro - I personally hate long haul flights. Everything over 4 hours is just boring for me, especially when there is no atc online. Starting the flight and beeing afk until the decent. Knowing that your Pc runs and Takes energy all the time. Where is the fun? #nohate #easyquestion
I know, it's just nice to perform such flight every once in a while. For me personally, on average only 2 long hauls a year. I always try to learn something about aviation during cruise time, cook a nice meal or whatever, do some house or homework. It's for those days where there's just nothing else to do or when it's raining outside all day. Luckily, I don't have to pay for electricity or depending on the location of my flightsim PC my flights are actually solar powered :D

Thanks soooo much for making this video. It’s very informative (as all your videos!) and has reduced the amount of “anxiety” to actually give an oceanic crossing online a try. Keep up the great work!!!
Hey AviationPro, I'm going to link this video to any pilots who are looking for an OCE procedures tutorial when I'm streaming VATSIM OCE ATC, good job!.
very useful video. The correct phraseology when position report should be: (for ex.)reporting 50N20W at time 1050z, FL340 mach .83. inbound 50N30W estimating at 1130z, 50N40W not "next", but "thereafter". :-)
Very nice informative video. Will clear most of the stuff to fly oceanic route. Explained very patiently. Agee with you to maintain 100 wpm with clarity while talking to ATC which is not followed some times (No bad comment for any one). Thank you so much!
regarding training position reports: when flying domestically and there's no controller online give positionreports on unicom. With the shorter distance between waypoints I tend to give two waypoints with arrival time and the third without. It will train your confidence in position reports and increase situational awareness for surrounding aircraft....
Hi AviationPro. First of all, thanks a lot for your very useful and amazing videos. Then, sorry for my incorrect english speaking (not my native language by the way). I wanted to mark a red spot on a bug that was very annoying on my first flight with my brand new 777. Indeed aftet take off i noticed false informations with ETA and Fuel status in the FMC. After double checking, the aircraft was set correctly and this is a known issue with PMDG 777. Pretty easy to fix anyways. Load a Default State Panel and customize it. Configure the State you want and save it as a new STATE. Now select this new customized State as the default. That s it ! Many others comments confirm you can also load as default the Cold and Dark State and there is no problem. However this State in real life is not common for an aircraft life. Hope it helps.
Thanks for watching! I know there's a problem with the panel states, but from what I know they actually released some updates a few weeks ago to deal with the problem, but not sure if it's still there.
amazing vid! i'm preparing for CTP tomorrow! do you happen to know how to offset route in the 787-9 (horizon sims) in msfs? i can't find anything online
Hello. I would like to say thank you very much for all your Tutorials Video. I make a small donation today. Kind Regards from Switzerland, Stephan LSZH :-)
Hi AviationPro, thank you very much for this incredibly usefull video, as always ! I have a question some of you may be able to answer to : is there any procedure for South Atlantic crossing ? I have to perform a Paris - Caribbean flight, without even crossing a part of a NAT. Do I have to ask for an oceanic clearance ? Do I have to report my position ? Or to set my squawk to 2000 ? I spent like 1h30 to search on the internet, but unfortunately unable to find any info. I'm wondering if it's simply because there's no procedure ? I'd like to be sure, so I assume you're the best I can ask to. Of course, if anybody knows the answer, any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you very much for your help, and your fantastic videos :)
Hi AviationPro...ever enjoy flying the Premier1 private jet? Maybe, as a diversion, we could fly it on some of your European flights? Fly safe! Romeo, India, Charlie, Kilo clear
Great instructional video. Question..... all this flying is in 'real Zulu time" (current). What happens if you are not flying in "real Zulu Time"? ( simulated zulu time)Or, is it best to always fly in real zulu time?
Thanks! Well, suppose you wanted to fly in daylight, at least make sure that you're flying at the same minute as zulu time, but then just change the hours and keep in the back of your mind how many whole hours you have offset from the zulu time.
Thanks for a very informative video. Out of curiosity, when you have crossed the pond and are handed off from Oceanic freq's to the domestic freq do they issue you with a new squawk code? Or do you change (yourself) from 2000 to the squawk code you were originally issued at departure when you leave the track system?
You're welcome! They do indeed. If there's no ATC, you just switch yourself back to the default squawk you were originally asigned or, if none, just use the default Squawk code.
And what if there is severe turbulence or thunderstorms on a nat tracks and need to change level very quickly ? And if u wanna do a westbound flight, during the eastbound nat time ( early on the morning for example) and if we wanna avoid jet-stream, how we are supposed to operate ? And also, does it mean also that the aircraft position on fl24, when aircraft are crossing Atlantic, is based on the report message of the pilots ??
BIG BIG QUESTION. GETTING INTO NAT-HLA AIRSPACE WITH ADS-B ONLY ONBOARD AIRCRAFT, DO I NEED TO COMMUNICATE FULL STANDARD POSITION REPORT? OR JUST DE DATA LINK PHRASEOLOGY? EXAMPLE: GANDER RADIO: N123 SELCAL CHECK, ICELAND NEXT
Question: is it required to repeat the station you are calling? Example: Shanwick radio, Shanwick Radio, KLM 641, etc” Just because I heard kit on the CTP event.
Do you think PFPX is worth it? I have been using Simbrief for a while now and not sure if I should make the jump. Also, do you think the QW 787 is worth it? I saw your other video and despite the bugs do you think it would be a good purchase? Thanks for this great video!
Simbrief is actually a great alternative, provided you have the latest AIRAC cycle. PFPX profiles might be more accurate though and finding routes is easier with PFPX. In my opinion the QW787 is worth it, provided they start working on the issues posted in the forum :)
Hi friend, I have a question .... the regulations and procedures for the oceanic flights in VATSIM are the same that in real life? Or there are some differences? If they are, it would be awesome If you make a video about the differences of VATSIM and real life.
They should be relatively similar, however in the real world much more use is made of datalink, not much is done via voice anymore, but the basic principles should be the same.
Thank you for your video, but I still have 2 questions regarding flight planning: Do you know if it's possible to request a higher Flight Level than the bookin sais ( I got 320, but usually stepclimb a lot higher on oceanic flights) and do you have to still file the flightplan on Vatsim even if you got the Route, the depart. time and the Flight Level on your booking? Cheers Luciano
You can always request a higher level, but given it's very busy during Cross the Pond, it's very unlikely you'll get a higher level, so best is to simply stick to the level provided. Stepclimbs within NAT tracks themselves are rare I believe. And yes, you still have to file a flight plan :)
Ok, two issues I have with this video; 1. You request clearance between 30-45 Minutes before entering the Zone, not 90 Minutes. Why would you even request a clearance 90 Minutes prior? How are you going to assure you are going to estimate the Entry Point at the Same time... 2. Private Messaging is NOT the way to request a clearance! Every time you cross the pond you MUST Contact the CONTROLLER on the FREQUENCY! Either via Text or Voice to Request Clearance. 3. The Oceanic Clearance Request is NOT how you have described in your Video. The correct request procedure is detailed here -> czqo.vatcan.ca/pilots/clearance.html - You must include the TMI Number in the Clearance! The clearance received by the controller will not detail the waypoint you are cleared via (i.e Via Resno, NAT E) will not be done. Instead, it will just be "Shanwick Clears KLM641 to Kennedy via NAT E, From RESNO, Maintain FL340, Mach 0.83 - TMI 144) - Your readback hereunder is exactly the same (Cleared to Kennedy via NAT E, from RESNO, maintain FL340, Mach 0.38 - TMI 144 KLM641) 4. It is not "Return to DOM" but Rather "Return Previous Frequency" 5. Your inability to show a (Template) that is the same to the example you provide is extremely poor. When attempting to give insight for pilots to "Cross the Pond" you should at the very least, ensure your data is correct. If anyone is confused, unsure or even lost by this video - That is ok, AviationPro does dive into a lot of topics, some in little detail and others in way to much detail. Please consult the Gander Oceanic Pilot Tools below - these will assist you to cross the pond later next month. Oceanic Clearance Generator: czqo.vatcan.ca/pilots/clearance.html Position Report Generator: czqo.vatcan.ca/pilots/position.html Radio Procedures Assistance Sheet: ctp.vatsim.net/system/view/includes/Transatlantic_Radio_Operations_Checksheet.pdf
Those were five issues, not two. *Point 1*: I indicated 30 minutes prior to entry via voice, and 30-90 minutes prior to entry if doing it via 'simulated' datalink, i.e. via text. I used this VATSIM guide as a reference: tinyurl.com/ydaqxuyr, it's clearly stated there as well. *Point 2*: maybe it's totally different flying eastbound, but private messaging is also clearly stated as an option for oceanic clearance in the VATSIM UK procedures: vatsim.uk/oceanic-procedures/. *Point 3*: my aim was to provide a basic set of phraseology knowledge. I did that by showing the VERY basic oceanic clearance first. If you watched further though, at 1:09:10 I explain the more advanced oceanic clearance including the TMI number. I specifically indicated in the video there will be differences depending on the region you fly in. Moreover I'm referring to the exact same radio sheet in that segment and in the description. *Point 4*: well, again a matter of regional differences I guess, VATSIM UK procedures use 'return to domestic' as well: vatsim.uk/oceanic-procedures/, in the end I don't think this is something we should worry about. *Point 5*: all the differences in VATSIM documentations I guess shows there's a need for a template, problem is, as these regional differences show, it's hard to design a specific template that applies to ALL oceanic regions. The video I made was to provide a set of knowledge, not a template, it's up to the pilot's responsibility to use this knowledge to adapt to regional differences or differences in documentation. Sure you can use generators and all which are great tools, but if you don't have an understanding of the background behind it, adapting to situations that are out of the ordinary will be more difficult.
If you’re flying a 777, then you rarely talk to anyone. It’s all via CPDLC. Also, with the PBCS mandate as well as strict rules in the NAT DLM airspace, you couldn’t operate in this structure using HF alone. Also, the callsign for oceanic is “Shanwick shanwick, or Gander, Gander”. C’mon now. Make sure to get the procedures correct.
This is a VATSIM tutorial, where, due to limitations in the simulation, things work a little bit different compared to the real world. I mentioned the existence of data link in the real world and I included real world documents in the description for a reason.
Mr Keefers I was almost going to go do the same but I’m pretty sure EGGL is going to be really congested and the Stalinist donut called Paris Charles DeGal terminal 1 would be slightly less congested but still realisticish
Initially I suppose, and if unable due to performance, you either stepclimb or say you are unable to comply. (E. G. it exeeds your max lvl or sth, but thats highly unlikely
Is flying KORD-PHNL considered flying over the pacific? Because I'm planning this flight to do on VATSIM, but actually I don't have coordinates, I have normal waypoints and normal airways to reach Hawaiis. Do same procedures apply?
Technically it's Oceanic airspace since there's no radar coverage. From what I know the clearance you receive on the ground at, in this case KORD, is also your oceanic clearance since you're flying via airways, but no seperate oceanic clearance is requested upon entry. You still need to squawk 2000 though. Here's some more info: static1.squarespace.com/static/596bbb38197aea69ddd026de/t/5a86d71ff9619a7edffe0f6c/1518786335943/30+West+Oceanic+PAC+Checklist.pdf
It's a shame that xSquawkBox does not feature SelCal at the moment. Many X-Plane 11 Payware addons feature their unique SelCal-Code, but there is no way to use it at the moment :(

Am I need to ask the clearance 30 before enter to NAT track?
will this also apply for crossing the Pacific?
here for the CTP 2020 :)))

Woah, 1 hour and 35 minute video.
Yep
AviationPro in all fairness thought it was really informative and I really learnt a lot from this video. Cheers 🍻
Hi. When you're using your headset mic, the volume goes up and down (jojo effect).
What happens if one is on UNICOM when one is close to the boundary?
So 1 degree of latitude for lateral separation is equivalent to 60NM quite considerable
You should become a pilot in real life
That’s correct, but without having radar coverage it is kind of necessary :)
Would I ask oceanic clearance on the ground at Manchester EGCC ?
Thank you for your video, but I still have 2 questions regarding flight planning: Do you know if it's possible to request a higher Flight Level than the bookin sais ( I got 320, but usually stepclimb a lot higher on oceanic flights) and do you have to still file the flightplan on Vatsim even if you got the Route, the depart. time and the Flight Level on your booking?
Cheers
Luciano
You can always request a higher level, but given it's very busy during Cross the Pond, it's very unlikely you'll get a higher level, so best is to simply stick to the level provided. Stepclimbs within NAT tracks themselves are rare I believe. And yes, you still have to file a flight plan :)
@@AviationPro Alright, thank you very much!
Ok, two issues I have with this video;
Instead, it will just be "Shanwick Clears KLM641 to Kennedy via NAT E, From RESNO, Maintain FL340, Mach 0.83 - TMI 144) - Your readback hereunder is exactly the same (Cleared to Kennedy via NAT E, from RESNO, maintain FL340, Mach 0.38 - TMI 144 KLM641)
4. It is not "Return to DOM" but Rather "Return Previous Frequency"
Oceanic Clearance Generator: czqo.vatcan.ca/pilots/clearance.html
Position Report Generator: czqo.vatcan.ca/pilots/position.html
Radio Procedures Assistance Sheet: ctp.vatsim.net/system/view/includes/Transatlantic_Radio_Operations_Checksheet.pdf
ye these generators are good and correct considering I made them myself
can verify as well, probably check your facts before you post a video like this
- Andrew Ogden, Gander Director of Operations
Who wants to do a Detroit to Paris. Delta airlines 777 shares cockpit in fsx for 2019 cross the pond
Doing KDTW to EGGL in FSX.
Mr Keefers I was almost going to go do the same but I’m pretty sure EGGL is going to be really congested and the Stalinist donut called Paris Charles DeGal terminal 1 would be slightly less congested but still realisticish
Just wondering, if the delivery controller instructs you to a higher altitude and speed, when do you climb to that altitude and increase your speed?
Initially I suppose, and if unable due to performance, you either stepclimb or say you are unable to comply. (E. G. it exeeds your max lvl or sth, but thats highly unlikely
he will say crld to cross reach by xyz wpt..
What version of P3D dp you use?
@@AviationPro Thanks! Very appreciated
It's a shame that xSquawkBox does not feature SelCal at the moment. Many X-Plane 11 Payware addons feature their unique SelCal-Code, but there is no way to use it at the moment :(
This might be of use to you comrade: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/35528-xselcal/
Do you keep doing position reports until handed off to domestic
Correct :)
