    The Pirates tried to sign Josh Gibson in 1939 but were not allowed to by Commissioner Landis.

    Larry Toby's numbers and Jackie Robinson are not worthy of hall of fame there are players with better numbers Steve Garvey vada Pinson to name a few check out stats before criticizing me

    Moses Fleetwood Walker was actually the first African American baseball player. He played 42 games for the Toledo Blue Stockings (that was considered a major league team at the time) in 1884, part of the American Association. Him playing led to the owners making their "gentleman's agreement", banning African Americans from playing until Jackie Robinson came along.
