I have been hoping you'd review this for a while, as it was the only laptop I was researching that you hadn't yet reviewed. I just got my 1040 G5 a few days ago, and am loving it! Thanks for the great videos!
@@bigdict78466 Love the Matte screen itself.. I actually bought a Spectre and returned it because that glossy screen was reflecting way too much. The only con to this set-up is even with SureView disengaged, the light from the screen is put out more direct-ahead, meaning, the light isn't consistent through out the screen (The part that you are looking at is the brightest, and it dims away from the center of your eye), which i find is mitigated by turning up the brightness. After a few hours of use, it no longer bothers me like it did right away, and when the screen is all white like word, excel, or even right now on UA-cam, you don't even notice it at all. I chose the matte screen and SureView because it was advertised as being able to be use outside, and it sure is, with the exception of directly facing the sun itself, otherwise, even in sunlight, its super view-able.
great review as always ! I would love to see a review of the Dell Precision 5530 2-in-1 next. Or even better, a smackdown between the Dell and the Surface Book 2
Is it weird that I want a compilation of every time Lisa has said "We're gonna look at it now" that she's ever had over the years? Because I want that.
One thing that this manufacturers aside from wacom havent nailed yet is the palm rejection thing, Why not just include a touch screen disable button like the wacom cintiq does and alow the pen as a just the input device when drawing, its soo frustrating drawing on this 2 in 1 devices as the palm rejection is garbage.
Elitebooks are made for IT departments so they are highly serviceable. The best deals are a used X360 for $150 or a used Elitebook 1050 for $300 the 1050 has a H series CPU which is much faster and a faster GPU too. The Elitebook G6 goes for the same price as the x360 but has no GPU and a poor screen so they don't make much sense (but may be more durable).
Hi Lisa, a short question. I am on the market for a new 2 in 1. May i ask, based on your impression, what would your choice be between an X1 Yoga and the HP elitebook x360 1040G5 or G6 (there is a less known G6 version on the market)? Also, many news point at an imminent upgrade with Intel 10th generation CPUs. Do you know anything about that? Thanks for any advice.

Once you understand it, the HP laptop naming scheme for the business lines is super helpful. this is an X360- so i know it folds, the 1040 tells me that its from the highest line of Elitebook (the 10xx series) versus the 8xx series or the 7xx or the 6xxx. The 40 tells me it has a 14" screen. and the G5 tells me its 5th gen in that line. example: 830G6, 840G6, 850G6 are all the Elitebook line with a 13", 14" and 15" screens respectively- and they are all Gen6 which came out in 2019. If you told me you had a 740G3, i would know that its the next line down and its a 14" screen from the Gen3 era... 2016 ish.
Couple of points i would add having bought the 1040 g7 with 1000 nit screen with sureview... there is limited viewing angle even with sureview privacy screen switched off. quite a big point and would upset a lot of people (i've learned to live with but was disappointed). The pen actually came with the computer... i wouldn't rave about it though. it feels scratchy, perhaps because of matte display. i also have surface studio and pen on that is far smoother - so disagree with Lisa on that point.
When you review another Elitebook x360, can you make sure to check out the refresh rate? This guy's Elitebook x360 1030 G3 has 120 Hz IPS display. That's a big thing for a pen input type device as it'll significantly improve the inking experience: ua-cam.com/video/w3fD75ZZ6lg/v-deo.html Or can you check if this 1040 G5 has 120 Hz display or not? Why most reviews missed this?
Since she has to send back the units she reviews, I think just her own Surface Book 2 and maybe a MacBook (Air)? Might be wrong, though. That's just what I think I recall.
I was looking at a review of the EliteBook x360 830G6 and the video highlighted how bad the SureView is. What a shame that HP didn't fix this issue before they shipped it to customers.
I don't really know what purpose touch serves in the business space. Most people don't draw, and taking notes longhand is kind of messy and inefficient as well. Mainly the use for a convertible would be to watch movies, which hopefully you won't do on company time. When I watch my own usage, I do have touch but I basically never use it. When I look around me at other users, they too routinely slap their keyboard cover on the Surfaces and whatnot and use them like laptops. But at least a tablet can be detached from the keyboard and be comfortable to use on the couch, these convertibles are just the worst of all worlds. Laptops themselves are compromises, they're bad at stationary computing and bad at mobile computing, but touch laptops additionally just make no sense for most users.
@@Timo-M Well, many laptops come with large touchpads that do pinch to zoom and multi finger gestures. Mine does that for instance. I've been using a touchpad for years, I even have one on my work desktop because mice were beginning to bother my shoulder, so I have no problem with highlighting either. Though I usually use the keyboard for that, and as many keyboard shortcuts as possible, that's even faster and more precise once you learn how.
