Sufjan Stevens has made music about historical events, roadways -- even serial killers. But his latest project, electro-pop album "The Age of Adz" (pronounced "odds"), is an inward-focused project dealing with the primal side of themes like love and death. Plus, there's a whole cosmic thing going on too. Before back-to-back concerts in Prospect Park next month, he joins us to perform live in the studio

He's -maybe- one of the most beautifully sensitive guys i've ever seen.
True....although, this is also kind of a confession that he is a bit of a fuckboi.......
True that. At least self aware tho
His birthday is July 1st, sensitive fuckboi is the perfect description of a male cancer😂
@@18purplepitbull Wouldn't say they are necessarily fucbois though, maybe with fire moons or a gemini moon or whatever.
@@Milonification he’s an Aries moon!! but I still love him either way💕
As a fan who's been following him since 2005, let me just say: he's an excellent investment.
Ooh bro it's been so many years damn
and the james mcalister stuff like earth
Shit i was born in 2005
The greatest pop songwriter along with MacCartney.
Yes.
how is anyone this beautiful
He has Jesus in his heart! :)
Nawal honestlyy he is the most beautiful man!
sufjan's voice makes me want to cry every time I hear it, not even when he's singing sad songs, just because it's so pure and angelic it makes me feel overwhelmed with emotion
Lovely and beautiful comment. His pure voice get me deep into a peaceful and mystical state of mind
goated guitar music taste
impossible soul is literally the best song ever.... kinda makes me sad that there is a pretty high chance of me to die without ever seeing sufjan in person :(
I found out about him a month after he played at the theatre below my highschool, you will never know how upset I was when I found out I missed out on seeing him for 35 dollars
@@user-hw9zp9ev8u omg... that's so close yet so far
be thankful that you can watch videos of his performing live on the internet. Couple of decades ago, that wasn't possible
1:03 "i'm nothing but a selfish man" with a brief smile that fades into the realization. love it
I love the way he smiles. He's beautiful
+Kirana Rahmi Heck, I love the way he scowls. lol
Kevin E lol. So do I :p
this is my favourite part of impossible soul
icedgirl stupid man in the windooeee thooo
@@zaraeraesmith7510 no no no! it's not so impossible is the best part!
@@lcs-1 you must be an optimist 😹
@@zaraeraesmith7510 i suppose... but it is so boogielicious I couldn't resist
@@lcs-1 agreed. But the pure anguish during the stupid man part deserves an oscar
i've seen this video an inordinate amount of times.
Too many to count.
i keep coming back sporadically since it exists.
I liked this video in 2024 to make sure you watch it again.
I always open up this song in a separate tab/window with the intentions of having backround music while browsing, and end up just watching the entire video enthralled.
HIS SMILEEEEEE IM SOO HEART EYE EMOJI
He's talent makes him 10x so much more handsome.
2:50
"That's where the trouble began. That smile. That damned smile"
This guys and girls, no filters, no selfies, all natural. And the eyes of Sufjan, eyes, smile like a child, so simple and amazing. Shocking :)
His smile at the end is the most precious thing I've seen in my whole life. Oh Sufjan, why aren't you here holding my hand ·_·
Who can offer perpetual pleasure?
I felt a kind of shock after the first 10 seconds. As if existence didn't prepare me for such beauty.
For some reason, The Age of Adz is THE album I listen to when I fly. I don't listen to any other Sufjan music. I found the album randomly in 2010 and to this day its THE album I put on when I sit down on a plane, ready to calm down and fall asleep. I've always meant to listen to more of his catalogue and just... never have done that. But Age of Adz... I've listened to this album dozens, if not hundreds, of times. It's terrific. The opening/closing tracks are especially beautiful.
You can just tell how he puts all of himself into his music... Perfection.
I hope my nose look like that nose, perfectly carved such a greek statue
Yolo Sutey he’s actually part Greek lol!
You stole my words
I love this song so much, so so much. Sufjan Stevens will forever be one of my favourite little treasured musicians.
His smile at the end was the sweetest thing I've ever seen.
I sang this song for a Talent Show in High school and I'm pretty sure they purposefully introduced it as "Pressure Principle" in order to avoid the Sexual Vibes from the song I obviously was ignorant of then...not sure it made a whole lot of difference, lol.
He so beautiful here, I always come back, because of the song, the voices, but also his presence
'and did you think i'd stay the night...and did you think i'd love you forever.'
His little smile at the end! I love him! He's so precious.
Everytime he performs live you can see the emotion of the song on his face.. so beautiful
It took me a minute to realize that this was just the acoustic breakdown at the end of Impossible Soul, the last 3 minutes of that 25 minute song specifically. Such a beautiful closer.
I listened to Sufjan Stevens everytime I spent time with the girl of my dreams.
Now I listen to Sufjan Stevens, thinking about, how all I do is friggen things up.
This man's music, is the only thing that brings me comfort and happiness, now-an-days.
im nothing but a selfish man...
Queremos mucho a Sufjan
descubriendolo a traves de CMBYN...realmente es entranable su propuesta musical, sutil, calida y evocadora....es parte fundamental del exito del film...
sí
Demasiado
Confirmo
confirmamos que ser tan espectacular
I can't get enough of this. Thank you so much.
Such a genuine human being. Love this man.
Good smile 10/10
never meant to cause you pain
My burden is the weight of a feather
I never meant to lead you on
I only meant to please me, however
And then you tell me
Boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more together
Boy, we can do much more together
I'm nothing but a selfish man
I'm nothing but a privileged peddler
And did you think I'd stay the night
And did you think I'd love you forever
And then you tell me
Boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more
Boy, we can do much more together
Boy, we can do much more together
I got to tell you
Girl, I want nothing less
Girl, I want nothing less
Girl, I want nothing less than pleasure
Girl, I want nothing less than pleasure
And then you tell me
Boy, we made such a mess
Boy, we made such a mess
Boy, we made such a mess together
Boy, we made such a mess together
Boy, we made such a mess together
Boy, we made such a mess together
@MatthewWittT I think Sufjan made something weird, different but genius with this album. At first these songs were too strange for me, but after a while I could really enjoy all of them. I fell in love with the ADZ and still keep listening this individual and crazy masterpiece. (a Hungarian fan)
I feel like i relate with the lyrics and oh my goodness i love this person
Makes my heart heavy :(. I love this song
That smile at the end.
BRO, WHY? WHY WHY WHY can this man bring me to tears with almost everything he fucking writes/sings? NO man should be allowed to wield this power.
I involuntarily smiled when he smiled at the end. LOVE THIS GUY
Writes a thoughtful and amazing music.
"Cute smile."
Ce type est incroyablement bon, j'adore tous ses albums
2:49 - such a beautiful smile...
listening to this song on loop because it makes me feel so sad
Anyone else here at least 3 times a week…….
The best songwriter alive today... if not in the last hundred or so years.... anyone???
1:34 ...looks like Sufjan just got done painting the shed before he rolled into the studio.
Hm. I hadnt cried as much since I listened for the first time to Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan.
Great to see I still have it.
I can't describe what I'm feeling right now. It's a euphoric yet melancholy atmosphere...I feel fulfilled.
why am i crying. this is insane. so much emotion. I want to die listening to this song.
love you sufjan!
i always come back to this video and weep a little for how wonderful it is to live at the same time as this man
I can't understand how such incredible beauty is even possible.
now I know, I am bisexual
@@johannesnicolaas it's not for gays :)
Same bud same
The first line made me teary-eyed cos I had this man who left me for good cos I was being complicated in our relationship.. 😞
His eyes are magical ♥
Suf has the best outfit I've ever seen.
Sufjan é sem duvidas uma das melhores coisas que apareceu em minha vida. Um grande artista que mexe com nossos sentidos de forma profunda. Um transbordamento de emoções.
muitas bonitas as suas palavras
I'm a successful classically trained violinist and it saddens me that I will probably never make music like this..
omg that beautiful smile at the end, I`m melting
Nice to see a bit of real class.
What a smile :) :)
Oooh how much i love this guy
Thank you WNYC! Unrepeatable
Look at Sufjan's guns! Dayum, boy!

God so beautiful. I love coming back to this performance.

i've NEVER seen what he looks like, and i didn't care to know until now... i'm beyond pleased!
I think I like the live version better this is sweet!!
It is a passage from Impossible Soul on The Age of Adz.
Involuntary tears are slowly forming...Beautiful.
Gosh, I could listen to this for days...
This is so beautiful it hurts!
never gonnaa stop coming back to this viddeo
that smile... gosh.
Most beautiful smile + most beautiful scowl all at once in the same person
rip in peace @ my eyes and heart
How can you not smile when he smiles? come on.
I clicked on this video honestly thinking he was going to perform Janet Jackson's song. It's safe to say I'm a little behind on Sufjan's music.
Me too.haha
I was expecting that too, I had forgotten about this part of Impossible Soul. Now I wanna hear Suf cover Janet's version since she is another one of my favourite artists.
😂😂😂 same here
the whole lot bitch, I was waiting for him to tip a chair!
HotMessMemories1 😂😂😂😂😂😂☠️
His smile is so beautiful. Beautiful man
Beautifull musical!! 💖
He breaks my heart every time
Wow! Sufjan stevens will always be the best.

What a beautiful human being.
This is so gorgeous it will make you believe in God.
And Sufjan as the prophet :P
Affirmative on the gorgeous part.
that smile at the end...swoon worthy
The gates of heaven.
Um toque de suavidade em onda sonora. Amazing!
Back to this song again.
Truly exceptionally utterly wonderfully marvellous
i just realized this kind of sounds like enchanted ghost
cuando me siento mal vengo a escuchar esta parte y me calma mucho :(
Just getting into this guy. What cds should I get first and don’t say “all of them!” I was thinking of the Michigan one and the Carrie and Lowell one and the Adz one?
As a collector my very first suf vinyls were Illinois, Adz, and later upon release, Carrie and Lowell. But if you’re into Sufjan, I would recommend them all, they’re all amazing and I have most of them ;)
oh i love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heavenly..
Hey, it's that National dude
playing I need my girl too.
the chords of i need my girl are very similar to pleasure principle
i was so hoping this would be a sufjan cover of janet jackson.
