    Thanks! Don't have the blower issue in my '97, but had not replaced an ignition switch before. Video showed how reasonably easy it was, and got it done in just a few minutes -- and added an anti-tamper set of torx bits to my collection.

    Thanks. It's nice to know what you are getting into before you pick up the first tool.

    Nice video, my dad was afraid to do his because of the airbag in the steering wheel and also because the Haynes manual stated that you need to remove steering wheel. It appears you very easily did it without the headache of removing the steering wheel. Thanks for the great video.

    Apparently the 2006 RAM trucks were cursed with multiple causative reasons for blower motor malfunction. These are bad ignition switch, bad blower motor resistor and a bad blower motor itself. I started out by replacing the resistor that didn't help fortunately the resistor was cheap $8.25 I may go to pick-a-part for the switch as I haven't done a price search yet. If it needs a new motor I will probably definitely go to pick.

    What troubleshooting steps led you to the decision of changing the ignition switch?
    My 06 Ram 1500 3.7 has a new battery (about 4 months with daily commute) and a starter that I swapped about 3 years ago.
    My truck will turn on but doesn't turn over. Haven't had the alternator tested though.

    Hey Jeremy, before you replaced the switch, was the dashboard still getting power but their was nothing under the hood? I'm still getting power to the dash, but no clicks or engine turnover was thinking it might be my switch as well but not sure.

      Travis Barnes oh man, you got a gremlin for sure! I had several issues going on that I figured a bad ignition switch would contribute to so I replaced it and moved on. My blower motor ended up being bad, my tach or radio(not both at the same time) continued to act up during the duration of my ownership. I did have power under the hood before and after. Good luck with your repairs!

      @jaimevasquez9567 Man that was sooo long ago! I ended up taking it to the dealer, and they said the engine was bad! Wanted Over 10k for a refurbished. I sold the truck to a friend that wanted it and moved on. I hope you don't have the same issue and it is just a switch! It was strange too because I could still turn the engine over by hand. So it didn't seem locked up. My friend took it to a friend of his and had the engine rebuilt for 5k. He's still having issues with it.

    I am having a little problem with my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel… My grid heater relays are not clicking on… replaced them with the battery cables, fuse and everything that connects to them under the hood and still not clicking on or off. I checked my voltage on both of the relays cables and it’s only giving me like 3.6, 3.8 is it supposed to be getting more voltage than that? I was wondering if anyone know more about this grid heater relays and how much voltage they are supposed to be getting? Some guys are saying it could be my ignition switch… is it possible for that to not be getting enough voltage for the relays for my grid heater?

    I liked your video but while I was doing this install , a black harness plug dropped down beneath the key and I cant find where to plug it in .can you show me the location to where this plugs In ?

    Thanks for the very straight forward video. I performed this using your step-by-step video. It was easy (except for lining up the new switch...that I had to do with a screwdriver). But my blower still works only when it wants to. Radio is fine. Any idea?

      +Jason Charger My blower was acting up also and only worked when it felt like it, it turned out to be the blower motor. it's like bushes or the poles in the motor wouldn't make contact when the motor stopped in a certain position, and then it wont work until i would hit a bump or the fan would turn a little. Just replace the blower motor, it's a plug and 3 screws I believe. RockAuto.com is a great place to get replacement parts.

      +Jeremy Hoekstra Thanks for the reply. And for the RockAuto.com referral. They had the best deal I could find. My motor also comes on after hitting a bump or if I tap on it. Ordered the resister also. Might as well. Thanks again.

    Hi nice info. but I thought that the ignition switch would be the key spot
    maybe you could explain what that part was you replaced thanks

      doesn't the ignition switch make the key stay in place.
      My truck isn't starting so I've been told to replace the ignition switch.hopefully it will be the answer.

    My '02 1500 has this problem where the AC doesn't blow, although if you hit the steering wheel it will periodically work. The ignition switch is the problem with that?

    • @jasonlara
      @jasonlara 9 років тому

      +David Slavic I had the exact same problem with my 2006. I performed this pretty easy replacement only to find it did not fix the intermittent blower fan. Did you get yours to work?

    • @sickbastd
      @sickbastd 8 років тому

      I hope you got your blower working. If not another possible for blower motor failure can be the blower motor resistor.

    • @jasonlara
      @jasonlara 8 років тому

      It's all good now. It wasn't the ignition switch nor the resistor...it was the actual blower motor. But all parts are new now. Motor replacement was under $30 and took less than 5 mins.

    Sometimes you're just damned if you do damned if you don't I replace the resistor today it didn't help I thought I would replace the switch tomorrow just in case and I figured the switch is cheaper than the motor and if it doesn't happen with the switch then I'll go get a motor. Just one logical step after another LOL

    • @jeremyhoekstra8685

      2pacnasgame you’re gonna need the other part where the key goes. Did you wiggle the steering wheel while trying to turn the key?

    What was the reason for you changing the switch ?

    • @GrandpaD78
      @GrandpaD78 9 років тому

      Joey Rozay Did you ever get a response about his reason for changing it? My 2006 Ram started having issues where the key won't turn and at the same time, the steeringwheel lock doesn't seem to engage... So... I don't know if an ignition switch will fix that.

    • @JoeyRozay
      @JoeyRozay 9 років тому +1

  • @notarookee778

    It'll still be cheaper than having it fixed at the dealer. Unless there is something after this that I haven't heard about yet.
