  • My friend sent me some stems for a techno track, and asked if I wanted to do something with them, so let's listen to them together & make a plan to remix these stems!

That map you did was great. You simplified such an essential concept of how you can use basic elements to gradually control the track's energy. It's so simple, yet still hard to execute effectively. I'll definitely keep this image in my head when arranging. Well done.

I'm so glad I found your channel Oscar, it's literally the absolute best instructional content on UA-cam. Simple, precise, well articulated, nothing said that isn't important or relevant. Iv only just set up a basic home studio and installed Ableton Lite about a week ago and now running before I can walk! My favourite thing so far is the rumbles and the Polymeter, what I mind f**k having those off beat baselines.... Still need to learn the basics of ableton and simplifying the work flow, as well as mastering but I think that will come with more time. I also got a Crave, TD-3 and RD-6 that's making for some interesting sounds. Today's adventure is trying to sync them all and create something DAWless as learning to use hardware is also in the itinery simultaneously. One thing though, I'm going to have to upgrade ableton pretty sharpish as only 8 channels is already wearing pretty thin lol 😂... Keep up the good work, and hopefully towards the end of summer I can gather the funds to do one of your advanced courses 🤙🏻

You're so full of energy and ideas, and also have the will to execute. Wish I could do that. Another great video from the master! 👍

Great video, I really love the lows as well!
I think it's also possible to sharpen them a bit further and use mainly midrange percussions going for a more bass-heavy groove.
That cheeky booty shaker club sound was at least the first thing that came to my mind as I heard the bass synth :)

I’m glad to see other people also draw a map plan for music. I’ll add notes to what types of notes/sounds I want per each part. Lately, I’ve used some distorted noises to relocate a beat in intros and breakdowns. But my true beat with drums is the same so it fits.

“That can be a whole track, just this.” Definitely had that thought before haha.
Edit: video was fantastic btw. I’m really starting to understand the importance of sorting sounds into their own frequency ranges. It sounds really cool when you have something going on at every frequency range. Maybe I’ll try this approach. Drawing a map and everything too 👍

Brian Eno said (probably still says): "Capture all your ideas. Get everything in there. When you think you're done, cut half of them & reduce the tempo by 50%"

hey Oscar, i have a question, i've been using Arturia's Pigments for synthesis but i every time i put an envelope on the filter i get an annoying clicking sound, why is that and how can i get rid of it? thanks in advance, love your videos!

Nice video. Would love to see more techniques around the topic “remix”. Speaking of remixes, I have two suggestions today: “CJ Bolland & The Advent - Camargue 2019 (Enrico Sangiuliano Remix)” & “Jody Wisternoff ft. Rondo Mo - Lately (Eli & Fur Press Halls Remix)”.

    Amazing tutorial!
Could you guys recommend some artist who plays similar hypnotic like techno or breakbeat like this? not the cheesy “melodic techno” bullshit they call it. I would say Extrawelt is similar, but not this heavy.

Weirdly, almost every element on its own (from the original stems) sounded reasonably generic and not hugely exciting. They do not sound generic or unexciting when played together as a track. And ofc your remix is maybe even more exciting.
