Regardless of team, witnessing such uncontrollable happiness from a bearded group of mentally tough men never gets old for me.
Red Wings fan here, but I am happy, not only for Alex (as the best player of this era, he's well overdue), but for the Capitals franchise as a whole. For all of the great players that have passed through their ranks since 1974. This poor franchise only won 8 games in its first season. Then they suffered through a seven-period game only to come out on the wrong end of it in 1987. They were swept in four straight games by my Wings in 1998. Beyond that, they came up short so many times, so I am glad that they've finally got the Cup.

If there is any sports franchise that deserves it more than anything out of the 4 major sports played in North America, it is the Washington Capitals.
Since they first started becoming a winning team in the early 80's and most of the 90's and 2010's, they only made it past the 2nd round twice (the 90 team made it to the 3rd round and the 98 team made it to the finals) & it must feel so good and vindicated, especially for Ovie.
If there is any individual that deserves It, it his him.
I am a Leaf fan but I am so happy for the Capitals bc I have relatives in the Baltimore and DC area.

It is nice to see Ovi finally lifting the Stanley Cup, a huge congratulations to him and the Capitals. The Golden Knights may well of fallen slightly short of the line this time, but what a first season they have had, they should also be very proud of themselves.

Phil McGroin the penguins have all the pieces they need. They have for quite a while. The flyers have struggled since the Blackhawks finals. They are finally looking decent again to some degree.

What an incredible Stanley Cup it has been!! Congrats go out to the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, and the rest of the team!! It was extremely generous and thoughtful of the owner of the Capitals for flying all of the team's family to Vegas!! That is true leadership, and shows true character and family values!! I have never heard of any professional sports team owner paying all expenses for their families to be there!! I can't say enough about him!! Again, congrats to the Caps from a life-long Bruins fan!! There's no other team in the NHL that deserved to win Lord Stanley's Cup than the Caps!!

We in Toronto need to chase any one of these guys and we will win it next and be in the top class year after year for the next decade. Interesting enough. EK shaved his face after they were eliminated. (Tor team rule clean shave) And picked up the puck. Drew is from London. And would love to play and win for TML. Carlson played for the London Knights.
hopefully they keep pelly and kempny who both will be looking for a raise but if they do choose to keep them which they most likely will allbeit for more than they are worth then the band aka main 22 skaters and 2 main goalies and coach will all be back..except for maybe carlson who was on the ice longest this postseason for them and 5th in points...he would be a huge loss and it wouldn't be right..pay the man ...keep the man..you need his heart...

Anyone else remember when LeBron won the championship in 2016 with cleaveland and said "I finally did it. I said I would come back to Cleveland and win them a championship." making it all about him that the team won the championship. You will never hear the word "I" come out of any hockey players mouth when they win the Stanley cup. Ovi has been in the league for 13 years and finally won his first cup. The first things he said "im happy for the fans and my team mates". doesn't even mention himself. You would think after 13 years he would say "it finally happened" or something like that, but he kept it as a team achievement with no self acknowledgment. Such humility from a first time winner.

Honestly I feel like Lars Eller is the unspoken hero for the caps, yeah he didn’t’t put up mad points like Ovi, Kuzy, Backstrom, and Oshie, but when he did get his goals and assists, they were crucial to get Washington back in the game, to give them the lead in games, or to put the games out of reach for the opposite team, same this with DSP.
For all Russian people it is also a very pleasant victory. Here we agree with you.

Absolutely no doubt that Ovi has been the best player for the Capitals, but he hasn't carried them. A good team wins the cup and that's what Washington was. They got good depth scoring from people like Connolly, DSP, Burakovsky, Eller. Ovi was the best player in the series giving 110% effort. Backstrom and Oshie were no short of excellent. Kuznetsov was amazing and so was Holtby. That save on Tuch may have been the difference. John Carlson lead the blue line. Ovi is a one of a kind player, but he's not carrying the team.

Here's my suggestion to all of those making negative comments on certain players. STOP!! If you can't say something nice about the organization, players, or their families, just refrain and don't post at all. Let the Caps enjoy the moment, and remember, Hockey is a team game, no matter what level it's played at. Some players don't have all of the necessary skills to get drafted by an NHL team. Some have potential, but need further development in lower leagues before moving up the ladder. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But, the negative comments need to stop. Just learn to appreciate the fantastic playoffs and Stanley Cup win the Caps have provided by their "never quit" mentality.
