Hey all you OV haters, you would love him if he was American or Canadian. Just like Ray Bourque"s story was amazing, OV's is just as impressive, except he did it with his own team. Remember, his first language is Russian for those of you who think he can't speak. Those of you who know sports would be happy for OV just like me. For those of you who cannot see the happiness in this after so many heartbreaks, maybe you are just bitter people in general and cannot evaluate sports objectively. Congrats OV and the Capitals.

There are no Canadian haters, maybe 10 years ago when it was a cup race between him and Crosby but everybody in the world respects that guy. Everyone wanted to see Ovi take home a cup we're all happy for him. Now he's gonna break Gretzky's goal record too. Greatest goal scorer of all time. ( I hope Sid passes him in points though so they finish evenly lol)
I'm a die hard Leafs fan, and when the Capitals dispatched the Baby Buds in the 2016 playoffs, they sent a congratulatory note to the Leafs, giving them all the respect. And now that the Caps won the Cup, 3 things come to mind:
1) If DC was this nuts for the Cup, Leafs fans have a taste of how nuts it will be here in possibly 7 years or less.
2) Much love and respect to the Caps for their Cup victory.
3) The authenticity and pure joy of Alexander Ovechkin is infectious. There's no way anyone (except the Golden Knights and their fans, probably) cannot be genuinely happy for this dude.

i remember watching #63 Shane Gersich just 2 or 3 years ago playing in the USHL for the Omaha Lancers, he was an excellent player for them and how lucky to end up winning the cup with the capitals, that is totally awesome

We got off of the metro at 6:00 am for my daughter to pass out the posters. When I got to the stage I couldn't believe how many people were already there! Best day of my life! Back to back!

Use to live in the DC area and I would say most of those fans never watched the Caps. on a regular basis during the season or even saw a game.A lot of what I call trendies in the area. Whatever is popular at the time they will show interest.

Ben Mangus I went and I'm from Florida. A celebration is not limited to only those living in D.C. it's for everyone in the country.
DC is a Redskins "Town" I lived in the area for nearly 20 years and did my best to promote the sport. The problem is that it is dominated as a military/political economic based society that are from various other cities. With it's centralized location the Capital Centre used to fill with visiting Rangers, Devils, Flyers, Red Wings, Penguins fans and others. It was hard to market a team like that.
