    Go to work for an LTL freight company as a line haul driver. LTL freight companies pay a hell of a lot more than truckload companies. I've been doing a 26 years and it was the best advice I ever got when I was younger.

      This is exactly what I was wanting to do; however, I live in the Keewenaw Bay of Michigan... And every company I contact says I need to live in Iron Mountain to be able to work for them. My plan is to grind until my girlfriend gets her PhD. and then we will likely move and I'll get into it then.
      Unless you might know someone who hires, that would be fantastic!

    Just curious what the pay rate for that intermodal account as an owner operator is? Weekly average miles too?

    • @RidingWTyler
      @RidingWTyler  Місяць тому

      I'll give a little perspective/comparison on it.
      Intermodal is $1.15 for empty and OTR was 0.85
      Loaded is $1.26 and OTR was $1.15-1.36 75% of OTR loads are around $1.15-1.19 and around 10-15% are $1.27 with the rest being a mix being over $1.27.
      Intermodal pays a flat rate for empty and loaded, regardless of miles. They also give a rate of $150, I believe, for local runs on top of your mileage.
      They said company pays $1,400-1,700 and owner pays $2,200-2,700 (remember to take 30% and if you want healthcare take about $130 a week)
      They don't give mileage because they have additional pay, and it's like 99.99% drop n hooks, rarely; and they emphasized rarely, do they ever get live loads or unloads. Drivers I have talked to have said the pay is not bad and you CONSTANTLY are running. As in booked with loads for 2-3 days at a time.
      I'll update more as I actually get into it. On my way to Gary Indiana to switch trucks and go intermodal (regional) as a company driver.

      I've thought about it on occasions, even still. Been driving since 2021 and the miscommunication at Swift is really bad. That's why I opted out of owner and decided to open up my availability for future employment. Hopefully this new account works out.
      Hopefully the videos help others who might actually deal with these issues themselves. Gotta make sure EVERYTHING is documented so it gets resolved. They literally threatened to not take me on the new account 🙄. Thankfully the emails proved things otherwise.

      @@jossa942 I would love for a home-daily, but being based in the Keewenaw Bay of Michigan; it has proven a huge struggle finding a local gig paying more than $18-21 an hour. I might grind until my girl gets her PhD. or I might try for GP Transco in the next coming months. I think this account I moved to will tell the tale.

      Everything was in writing and emailed. That's why everything was figured out in the end. My terminal has done this multiple times in the past and take it out on the driver, to then find out they messed up. That's why I made sure everything was documented.

    Watch the first two minutes of your post and tell me how YOU aren't the cause of the Sh**show you are currently in. It's either/or, not "test the waters." If you are moving from 10-99 to W-2, there IS a rehire process. It's a paperwork process, lots of paperwork.

    • @RidingWTyler
      @RidingWTyler  Місяць тому

      @@ChrisL-oz4lp what I was saying they messed up on, was the process of getting me back company. They assigned me a truck from California, then a truck from Gary, then finally got me a Wisconsin truck. I had to change my stuff 3 times. And they tried blaming placements mishaps on myself.
      It wasn't that I needed to go through the process, I already knew that before I did it. It's how the process went that I was saying was messed up.

      @@soflodoug I have been driving since 2021. I have the experience of going elsewhere; my biggest issue is my place of residence. My girl is doing a PhD. up in the middle of nowhere, and only Swift and GP Transco hire out of here... my goal was to grind another few months so I do not switch so quickly after terminating my lease, then hope for GP or maybe grind until we get out of here and get on with an LTL company.
      My hold back right now is this new account, this will be my last straw with them. If this does not work out, I am definitely switching carriers.
