- The Motor City is, perhaps, the only large city in the country with groups of the beautiful, non-native fowl running around its fields and lots.
These birds are truly a thing of beauty. I lived in an area on the east side of the city between Mack Ave to the east, Gratiot Ave to the west, Mt. Elliot to the south and E. Grand Blvd to the north. Pheasants were always around. Every morning I'd wake up to them squawking in the alley behind my house. There were quite a few empty lots that had overgrown grass, bushes and whatnot, so it was no wonder why they stuck around. Stray cats would try to chase them, but they lost out everytime 😂 I'd like the city to keep them. The only major American city with an obvious Pheasant population is really something unique. Thanks for talking about it, guys!
I live in the same area. Love seeing the birds!
Yes . I completely love the way they have adopted our city . We should love them in return as well.
If the Detroit Future City strategic plan for the reimagining/rezoning of its large 139 square mile area is any indication (which, among other things, reverts large parts of the city to fallow and village-like density), I think the pheasants may continue to have a place 😊
Moncton, N.B. Canada. They are everywhere in the city.
Years ago where the Pepsi Plant is on the east of Detroit it was a open field . one winter day i was driving by and there must have been 100 Pheasants eating something in the field. I stopped counting when i got to 50 and there must have been three times more. it was a sight to see.
the real reason you guys got them is their are no predators like coons ,skunks , foxes, wolfs, coyotes, these animals get their eggs . we used to have them in wisconsin when they had a bounty on these critters , they took off the bounty and our pheasant population is virtually gone .
We have coyotes and coons. And pitbulls lol
Awesome. Beautiful birds! (We have a whole lot of them here in Denmark).
Was in Detroit for a high school thing years ago and saw one and I thought it was a roadrunner or something(very southern of me). Everyone thought I was straight tripping
Look into “pheasants forever.” It’s an organization devoted to giving those birds habitat to be protected, nest, feed and roost, while simultaneously giving hunters an opportunity to hunt them, given the appropriate time of year and other laws that help conserve them.
I know im not quite wording all this right, but just want to reiterate that pheasant hunters are one of, if not THE biggest sources of income and care when it comes to pheasants, their habitat(which also benefits many other native species), and an all-around promotion of healthy land management for big agriculture and small time farmers alike. Healthy land, healthy people. I digress. AMA
oh my gosh Flint used to be full of them. I haven't seen one since the late 80s. So good to know.
edit: we have turkeys now which is kinda new.
Used to see them all over the Philadelphia surrounding area. Not any more. Even in the outlying woodlands, not a Ring-Neck to be found. I am talking about 40 years ago but still wonder why they left. Good work with the video. Just plain old good work. Thanks.
Quails and pheasant have been disappearing in Utah
"They Are Striking"
And delicious!
Developers need to include green space. It cools down cities.
I would expect a pheasant from Detroit to be packin' a 9
I think they would rather use a Desert Eagle, or something from Heckler and Koch.
My high school mascot. Nothing better.
This is incredible. Great video. So surprised that unmaintained city areas are now great habitat for wildlife.
saw one today walking to the grocery store!
They taste better than Chicken.
Thank you for an interesting clip abt Detroit’s pheasants! Maybe they were farmed locally prior to Detroit’s demise /recovery? Or could they be related to the pheasants in Europe & UK.. which arrived via the Silk Road.
I live in the Downtown Detroit area where we see the beautiful pheasants very often and they are so eye opening friendly but very private . The tail is very long and the other birds are not afraid of the pheasants size. I think it's great we have them . Pheasants inspire our city . A gift from God.🙏
Many years ago, I used to occasionally see them in Long Island, NY. Now, I haven't seen them at all in quite awhile.
I miss seeing these pheasants.
Beautiful Chinese Ringneck pheasants in the city of Detroit I wouldn’t have never known it had I not watched your video.
I got robbed by two roosters back in 14 ...it was scary
We used to chase the pheasants in Mt. Olivet cemetery near city airport as kids. Easy to track them in winter with snow on the ground.
Beautiful blue back Chinese Ringneck Pheasants.
Once there were parking lots
Now it's a peaceful oasis
You've got it, you've got it
… This was a Pizza Hut
Now it's all covered with daisies
You got it, you got it
… I miss the honky tonks,
Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens
You got it, you got it
… And as things fell apart
Nobody paid much attention
You got it, you got it
👍👍👏👏👌🐔🐤🐥🐦
Development and mowed lawns will not be a problem. Lmmao
I hope the company meets their demands.
These birds here in the uk are beginning to be a pest.
