My Dad had a 1973 Autocar for his log truck in northern Maine. When he finally sold it, it had well over 1.5 million miles on it. Saw the old truck when we went for his funeral in 2018 and the old truck still runs. Transmission is about worn out, but that piece of old American Iron is still solid at 53 years.

I can remember years ago, '65-'66 I was going to Jr. college in Daytona Beach. The highway ran for 25 miles through a national wildlife area. No side roads, good concrete highway. I would run about 70 mph across there. Well every morning an Autocar twin screw semi dump truck would come across that road too. He would come from out of sight behind me, pass us up and go on out of sight in front, loaded. I decided to run with him one day. 92 mph. Beautiful, loud , bad ass truck. I'll always have a good memory about it.

In Puerto Rico there used to be a lot of DK Autocars on the roads pulling containers, flatbeds, lowboys, dump trailers, and pouder trailers. Those Autocars were the tuff and could get in and out from the muddiest dirt roads.

My father owned 2 Autocars in the early 50s.A 1948 Green one with a 18o hp. Cummins and a red one with a Leroy (Leroi) v8 gas engine. Both were single axles. He hauled lumber and equipment with them. Wish I had them now!!! Saw a 1948 at Saratoga Antique show. Sure looked like his old green one. Couldn't find the owner for it's history. Now you're talkin', BostonTrucker. "Back in the day", these big machines were brutes...real trucks. And, they defined the construction industry "right down to the letter"...we're talkin' building the mighty Northeast, with the likes of Colonial Sand & Stone, Gerosa Construction ("King" of the heavy-haulers), and Palumbo (their slogan atop the dump body, "We Move The Earth"). I grew up in metro New York with 'em all...this is awesome. As you say..."Still earning"...respect. Thanks, Mike.

No computers, no limp modes, no automagic transmission. I’m seeing more guys rebuilding 70s 80s trucks and running them.
