Airtech Claw Rig was the most exciting Technic set I've ever built, doesn't matter whether it's the 1980's or the 2020's. It has never been equalled for the number of different functions relative to the number of pieces.
I'm very partial to the Arocs, but that is because it's the only modern technic set I own. I also lucked out and found it at a local Goodwill thrift store for about $35. Box was messed up, but the parts where still in their factory sealed bags. It now lives on my shelf with some regular sets that I own.
I do wish LEGO introduced some more pneumatics in their sets! Also hoping that we get more motorization/motor upgradeability in some of the cheaper LEGO Technic sets. The sets we are getting right now don't seem as playable/a good deal as the previous LEGO Technic sets from a few years ago. I hope LEGO Technic improves, and this is just a transition period between Power Functions and the new Powered UP and that LEGO explores some more possibilities with Powered UP in the future.
I got the unimog when I was 11 years old. Im 22 now and it still sits at the top of my shelf, fully functional. Ive done a few mods to it over the years, but Ive tried to keep it mostly original. The mods Ive done are ordering the parts for the snowplow for the front (so now it has a snowplow and crane), adding another air pump so it pumps twice as fast, adding a white air tank inside it, making the bed on the back dump with yet another cylinder, and adding some plates inside the cab to make the interior nicer. It is absolutely my favorite lego set that Ive ever seen or heard of, and theres no way Id ever part with it.
Nice to see you actually made this video. And I’m glad to see the LEGO Technic 8455 Pneumatic Backhoe get a mention! Also I have the 8455 which I bought sealed last year, opened it and built it. That’s 17 years after release, It was pretty expensive but it’s in mint condition and definitely worth it!
Phumatics are one thing that really changed lego for the best giving rise to very realistic machinery and other new functions honestly I would have to say I would say the newer phemuatics sets were just a little better than older sets but defiantly all phuematics sets are great thanks for a good video
I prefer the Pneumatic over the gear drive ones. Wish they had a upgrade kit you could add to each set. Also seems like we got alot more Bang For our buck , way back when. lol
there used to be a lego education pneumatics set, 9641, but it is retired and now a sealed copy sells for 90-300 dollars. absolutely insane. It included 3 valves, 2 normal-size pistons, 1 normal-size pump, 1 small piston, 1 small pump, a pressure meter and air tank, as well as a bunch of pipes. Such a shame it was discontinued.
I'm in team Arocs :)) it's the only set I own out of those and the most complicated out of the ones I own. The suspension really blew my mind 4 years ago when I took it. Very smart build. The suspension along with the steering I mean.
@@Unbrickme I've seen Sariel's review, and for a non-motorized set, it's decent, great looks, but I've seen some flaws in some mechanism that can't be forgiven coming from a designer. So overall if you like pneumatics (which I don't) I guess it's good.
In my opinion, the mercedes arocs should have been No. 1. But opinions are opinions and they are different from Person to Person. I like that you also include Sets so old i do not even know them. Keep up with the great content!👍💪
The only reason I put the unimog at number 1 is personal nostalgia. If it weren’t for that the air tech claw rig would’ve been at number 1 followed closely by the arocs
@@l0lcol0l Well, I need a Servo to control the Pneumatic valve, and an M motor to pump air, whereas I would only need 1 motor to control a Linear Actuator. Plus... I don't have a Servo...
i think that submarine model is one of the only ones including a mini figure, so far I know, lego technic never includes a mini figure but they do mostly fit in the seats which is cool
how about the new heavy duty tow truck? I have it and It's really worth the price as you get over 2000 pieces for 140 euros (that's the price I paid) the price lego asks is 160
I live in the UK and the Ducati and mixer are both on sale: Ducati costs £43.99 and the mixer costs £67.99, I'm just curious wether you would still recommend the Ducati?
Oh, I so don't agree with your order... The Unimog was overrated in my opinion. They pushed Technic beyond its limits resulting in a car that wouldn't sit straight, had a ridiculous turning circle and just flexed everywhere. You want a great Technic Unimog? Set 8848 from 1981 is the set to get. The Backhoe belongs in the top 3, along with Airtech claw rig and the Volvo excavator. How a parts pack even made the top 10 is beyond me... Still, everyone is entitled to their opinion ;-)
I think its a pretty good set. you pay $200 but its almost the same building experience as the supercar sets for $360. plus the Land Rover defender is an iconic off roader
@@Unbrickme I think so to, I would love to see that drivetrain in action (that would be my first). It is always good to hear someone's other opinion :)

We’re all entitled to our opinion except when these opinions are straight up Lies. No way 8110 is better them 8455 or 8868. Heck, we both know 42043 is also better then 8110. I’m not trying to flex but I have them all and I couldn’t disagree with you more. Off with your head!!!. 😂
I understand that the 8110 isn't the greatest one in terms of functionality, and the only reason I put it at number 1 is due to personal nostalgia I have had with the set. I have a question, since you own all of them, does that mean you also own the original pneumatic excavator from 1984? Because that's absolutely awesome!!!

awesome idea! thanks!
regarding pneumatics the 8455 clearly is the winner

All of the Mercedes Benz trucks that Lego ever made seem like they have pneumatics.
So where would you place 8462 (blue tow truck)? It has 2 air tanks.
Airtech Claw Rig 8868 is the king.
When seeing the 8049, it somewhat makes me think about my 42080. I like the 42080 quite a lot looking at the compact motorized compressor part of it.
Will you ever review the volvo ew160e?

There were no so many excavators in Lego Technic history to choose top 10 of them.
