Technic is supposed to be for the older people like 14 and up so I think lego is just making things that are more real I guess but if you have an idea you can put it on lego ideas or Reddit so someone could make it there if they are interested
I've just come across this video. Fun fact, I was TomacWhite on the #5 Lego Set. That post was either from Eurobricks, or the Lego site itself on the review part of the item. Lego called me up as I bought the set from the Lego online store. They invited me in and wanted me to bring the set in to show them. I am in the UK though, so a trip to Denmark wasn't really an option. They did send me the replacement parts to test though, and were incredibly friendly and helpful!
A trip from the UK to Denmark is way easier than a trip from Australia to Denmark. Plus they invited you INSIDE LEGO! Not just the tourist attractions but INSIDE LEGO Technic. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity, kind of like finding the Golden Ticket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
The Osprey cancellation is a really strange case. Just how did that set go through all of the various design meetings, marketing meetings, engineering meetings, production meetings and all of those other steps in the process of creating a new Technic Set and no one raised a red flag about it being a military aircraft until literally the last minute before the sets hit the shelves in the stores around the world? How does that happen, when everyone at Lego is aware of the no guns, no military stuff rules? It would make for an interesting example in a business management course, that's for sure!
Well, they did do the Air Race Jet (which was pretty much an F35) earlier, I think someone on the design team liked Aircraft and were pushing their luck.
I think Boeing had sold it to them as the Civilian SAR version, which, to date, have not been ordered by anyone :-) When this was realised Lego had no option but to pull it to comply with their own guidance regarding military hardware.
I heard the Osprey was cancelled due to some edgy people being offended (as the trend is now a days) over it being a military vehicle. But the explanation in the video just makes it sound that bit more stupid..
I don't get why Lego still holds on to their outdated policy, they are missing a whole market of military vehicles that kids and adults would love to build. I just finished a mega blocks Harrier II and I love it.
I mean, for military stuff in my opinion COBI is the best, they're way cheaper than legos, are compatatible with them and make all sorts of military stuff (Idk if its available in other countries as it is Polish)

Well, let's not forget that the V-22 Osprey did indeed have a gearbox flaw with those three 8-tooth gears transmitting torque. That was another reason why they pulled it off the shelves, and that was a really BIG mistake on engineering's part.
I highly doubt that was the reason. LEGO could've easily done something like what they did with the 8043 motorized excavator set, pulling it from store shelves and then re releasing an updated version a few months later. Sadly, the bell Boeing v22 osprey is cancelled forever
Actually I think the cracking sound and then later fixing by Lego is super accurate to actual Land Rovers. I think they were just going for a more realistic experience of owning your own Defender.
The biggest error I’ve seen is the 76144 in step 81 and 87 you use an illegal building technique to hold the crate in the back of the helicopter. The inverted brackets gave me a headache because they would bend
Who classifies it an illegal building technique? If lego themselves use this technique, who feels they know better? This "illegal" business does my head in.
@@bengibson6710 Lego themselves classify certain techniques as 'illegal' based on what they'd specifically avoid using (e.g. because it risks bending pieces out of shape). However their standards have changed over time, so some sets use techniques they wouldn't use now. There are also going to be times when something just slips through.
5:49 I am still furious about LEGO's decision to cancel the Osprey. I'm sure it would sell well since it had a bunch of new pieces, a multi-directional gearbox, and was motorized which also made me (and many other people) want to get it so badly. LEGO still decided to cancel the set, which is sort of contradictory in a way (this is a rescue military helicopter that helps people, it doesn't do a lot of the fighting. Plus, LEGO allows guns in many sets (for example Star Wars sets) and other military items to be released as well) and made no sense (it's fully developed as Unbrickme said, and it got cancelled last-minute). A bold but devastating move. :(

Most of the guns or weapons in LEGO sets are only used in fictional and/or historical settings (Star Wars, stereotypical 18th century pirates, medieval warriors, etc). It has never released a model of a modern military vehicle or aircraft like the Osprey is. On top of that, being this a licensed set, meant that part of the money from its sales were due to Bell, money that could potentially be used by Bell to produce or develop other military vehicles or weapons. I also would've loved to see this set released but it's easy to see why LEGO decided otherwise. What baffles me is how it almost managed to hit the stores before being recalled.

The Osprey did break an 8-tooth gear in its gearbox (after extended use, which was because the 8-tooth gear is a very weak gear, if not the weakest gear and was not able to handle the load of the gearbox (basically all the power went through those 3 8-tooth gears)) but that was not the reason that it was pulled from the shelves. As Unbrickme said, it did not comply with LEGO's guidelines of not producing military-related sets, which somehow no one noticed (or did anything about it) until the set was officially released. That was very strange and very sad since I really wanted to get the set because it was so amazing. :(
It did look like a cool set, but despite the rescue labels lego put on the osprey, ospreys aren't really used for such, though i read the navy will start to use them for combat search and rescue missions. Still, has the word "combat" in it. Yet at the turn of the millenium lego had the sopwith camel, though more lego than technic, and it was made more for the shelf
@@dontneedone990 I'm sure it's because of multiple reasons, branding might be one thing (since it is associated with the military/is used in the military) and the gearbox problem was probably another. I think LEGO tried to pass it off as a "rescue" helicopter since I believe it does do rescue missions, but it mostly does military rescue missions and people started complaining. I'm not sure why LEGO decided to go on with the Osprey and cancel it so late into the development stage, but I guess we won't know ever know for certain. :(
I think there is a very glaring mistake in the motorized excavator, which looks amazing and I want to justify dropping the money on a set to get to build and play it with myself. As someone who has welded digger buckets together at my last job, that motorized excavator should be rereleased with an actual excavator bucket in the right size to fit. The bucket it uses is straight up a front-end-loader bucket design. It would be cool if they had a more excavator style bucket, and it being so big it would be cool if the side cutters were pieces that would be able to stick to the side cutter mounts plates on each side of the cutting blade with teeth, either through the LEGO system or maybe some kind of Technic attachment. In real life the side cutter mounts are welded to the bucket as part of the sides, and they have mounting holes machines into them to bolt on the wear pieces which are giant, cast blades, meant to wear down and be replaced as they deal the cutting power on the sides as the bucket bites and the teeth rip. Be a cool way to get more color on the bucket without stickers and it would make it look a lot nicer and closer to real life with removable "wear" pieces. Learning how to put together and weld up digger buckets made me appreciate the design and engineering that goes into them even though they are mostly "static" but boy do they take a lot of force and can deal a great amount of damage. The excavator-specific buckets were the most fun to weld up. I think even an eye-let on the back of the bucket like some excavator buckets would even help added functionality by allowing the excavator to be used as a make-shift crane like in real life. If you're going to make an excavator model be that cool, don't skimp out on the bucket. Hell, they had the Unimog capable of attaching implements to, and they are sort of encouraging people to make their own implements for the Unimog with that functionality. Excavators can be equipped with a frame that allows them to switch between buckets and implements at the job site. From jack hammers, to rippers, material handling claws or rakes, to anything anyone can fabricate for whatever specific job they need the excavator to do. I could justify spending a lot more than what the motorized excavator is currently worth if they added in that kind of functionality. And it doesn't seem like it would be hard and the playability would go through the roof.
Because of how much fun I have with this excavator set, I check out the real machinery when I pass by construction sites. The mechanics of the bottom of the boom arm where the shovel connects requires some work. I look at the real machines and compare what I see in the model, and there is a disconnect. I'm not in the construction or heavy machine operator career path, but I can tell something needs improvement. I will see what I can come up with.
a lego shop owner in my city was telling me about the Osprey, and how it got cancelled, and how Lego asked shop owners to return these sets... now he has 2 osprey sets which he didnt return, and he was telling me that they sell for really good money since they are rare. i didnt know they can reach that much

They must create many variations of the same set during the design process and then somehow must choose which they think is the best. I often think about how they would do that. Is it a single person or a committee, and what are their criteria?
Thank you very much! That is an excellent question that I would love to know the answer to aswell! I know that, for the LEGO Technic 2007 motorized bulldozer, many sketch models were created. The designers narrowed it it down to two models, one motorized full RC, and one bigger, with pneumatics, but no RC or motorized functions. The technic designers gave the sets to a group of kids to play with the technic models. They vastly preferred the motorized one, and so LEGO Technic produced the motorized variant. All of this information comes from the "behind the design video" of lego technic in 2007
@@Unbrickme in the building instructions for the Lamborghini Sian they put QR codes so you can see the building process for the different areas of the set.
The Porsche 911 also has the dubious distinction of nearly a month delay in shipping post release as all boxes were hand repacked to limit the instructions crushing all of the inner boxes in transit. Fun times!
Land Rover’s cracking noise is mostly caused by gears, not U-joints because one gear couple has high gear ratio so it can’t synchronize movement due to stress in gearbox itself.
Only if the gears are improperly built though. Following the instructions very carefully, should not result in the Land Rover defender crackling. However, even if you followed the instructions extremely carefully if you bought one of the first Land Rover defenders, the universal joints would be misaligned, causing the crackling sound.
@@Unbrickme I tried to change U-joints many times, and than I watched the gearbox. I have changed one gear couple- there is no cracking any more. Btw, great video as usual, keep going!
there was a infrared reciever mistake in a lego freight train set that i dont remember the name of, normally you get a regular reciever, but for whatever reason, i got the VERY RARE V2 reciever, i dont know if this happened with all sets or just mine. let me know if you have more info.
It wasnt a weight issue. The problem lies in the fact that the wishbone are connected using friction pins. So the shock absorbers are not only having to deal with the weight of the car (which they can actually do), they are also having to work against friction pins to move. Replacing these pins with frictionless pins or Axles resolves this problem

The lego technic 42113 also has a design flaw as the gears that control the two engine's also tear themselves apart with over use there are videos of this also on youtube. So this might also be why they stopped the release to the main shops.
Yeah, the gearbox had a problem and i had to modify my set. However, it is clear that this is NOT the reason for the cancellation of the bell boeing v22 osprey. The 8043 also had a problem in its linear actuators, and that set was briefly pulled from the lego store, only to come back a few months later. The same thing could've been done with the bell boeing v22 osprey
Actually LEGO made an Leopard 2A MBT at 1:50th size for the danish army on some national occation. It's not an official set, though, so I guess it doesn't count towards their policy of no military vehicles and machines. The model, btw, is on display at the danish armed service headquaters in Copenhagen although not for public viewing.
When I bought the LEGO Mindstorms ev3 education set, I remember, it should include the charger and a building instruction of the LEGO ev3 driving base. But when I unboxed the set, it did not include the charger or a building instruction.
There is actually a mistake that is really easy to fix with the 8860 technic car from the 80s. There is a lego pice that is blocking one of the gears in the gearbox. Lego built in three gears but they blocked one of them so that its only possible to use two of them.
in the 8043 set there was another problem. according to the manual you had to use a blue pin in the gearbox that turns much heavier instead of a white pin.
I can’t believe that the military helicopter at the end of the vid got cancelled, because not only are military vehicles available in other brands as toys, this specific helicopter was one of the toys I saw being sold. But Lego can’t do that? it’s shameful…
I'm surprised you didn't mention the gearbox issue in the Osprey that it can break its own gears if you try to turn the propellers forward while they're spinning.
The Ferrari Daytona SP3 has mistakes. Parts #21 and #22 on the bottom of the car are included in the kit, but the instructions do not tell you to put the parts on the back of the car. Also, the transmission is wrong, so they fixed it via PDF download. The doors can be a challenge to open properly every time. Mechanically, it takes some light force to push the levers to open the doors, and the trunk tends to slam down all the time. The back window may hit something under the engine cover.
@@williamdemler24 For me, it was one of earlier red cars, from around 2001, and the destroyer droid that was supposed to unroll. Gearbox was seized on the red car, and there was some similar issue with the droid mechanism.
Set 8293 had a misleading mistake with mystery/gambling with the switch type contents. On the later production runs of 8293 the PF switch was the newer ones (without black reverser & snapping polarity) but the box art with the pictured old PF switch (with black reverser and looser polarity) was never updated and not included in the set. From flagging this error to Lego service upon requesting the actual PF old switch pictured they said it was a oversight and now aware of it and said it was actually no longer in production, they refused to update the box art and still sent the wrong newer PF switch of which this has happened twice trying to obtain the old PF switch but got unlucky by getting the newer PF switch. As far as I know the set never updated the box art/advertisement and the set was discontinued shortly after. Some mocs only work using the old type of which is the GBC ball train module, it does not work with the newer PF switch due to high friction. There are many product recalls but they only have to show them if it concerns product safety, if its sloppy quality they dont have to advertise it as the increasingly poorer quality would be the opposite of the brands seemingly meaningless slogan, its sad they making poorer decisions/cutting corners these days.

The PF power functions do continue, but not in the Lego brand. I really enjoy the power function kits, especially the remote-control kits. I do wonder about the future of the app-control kits. Obsolete at some point? There is a Lego Power Functions PF download that will allow you to program your own controls for the hub. I am still learning how to use it.
it is sad that they could not do a better job with the suspension of the new mars rover perseverence, it's fun anyways, but the suspension is really bad
the weird thing is that the osprey is also used as a civilian aircraft not too infrequently, and they could still have chosen from any number of other tiltrotor aircraft
I recently bought the Lamborghini Sian and it had the pieces with mismatched colours. I contacted Lego's customer care and they were ready to send free replacement for that part. So I don't think it's a issue to be concerned.
LEGO does have pretty good customer support, but I still think that for $380 it should come with the correctly colored parts. Contacting customer service, then waiting many days to recieve replacements just isn't a good experience overall
My one also had slightly mis-matched colours. I wasn't too bothered though to be honest, you can only really see if you look hard in the correct lighting.
These kind of videos aren't about personal issues, because that differs from person to person. It is simply the fact that the thing came with mismatched parts shows that there definitely is/was a design, technical, production, QA issue. There can't be a discussion whether there is an issue or not...there just is.
Can confirm that. There's some weird binding in the gears near the transmission tunnel. Some shafts are not properly supported and build tension that ends up making the transmission cracking

I have the lego technic 42055 and 2 years after i build it it stops working I changed the battery and it wont even move I will change it onto that other set cuz is 2IN1 and the 42043 was cool but I changed it into truck and I added 1 wheel on the back now the truck have 8 wheels 👌

I bought the motorized excavator on eBay and was disappointed by the performance so i swapped the motors, changed the gearing and just for fun made the color scheme red-black instead of yellow-gray
My personal worst fails of Lego technic is 1 the price 2 no real engines 3 weak electric motors 4 no universal Lego technic engine that can be swapped to any set 5 custom Lego engines require so much torque to operate you WILL break parts AND the rpm increase can go from my testing ( 1 hand rotation to 7 wheel rotations)
The Porsche had another problem with its gearbox. On page 121 the two red gear change pieces go in the wrong way around. The result is that the gears jam. It's explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/QLLA0wpcqlc/v-deo.html After the disappointment of that Porsche I said I wouldn't buy any more of those big cars with their hidden gearboxes. And now there's a green Lambo sitting in the attic, waiting to be built....
Not a terribly big mistake, but a mistake none the less... with the Lego Ducati Panigale, if you put the orange screw cog wheel in backwards, then the gears are the right way around. i.e. first down, second up. It's funny, as the instructions make such a big deal about showing you which way to put it in, even going so far as to show you a close-up view of that part of the assembly instructions. So then to go and get it wrong.....
I’m sorry but I just had to point out that the missing tail light at 4:03 is bugging me so much 😂 Also though I think they could do so much more instead of partnering up with big companies such as Lamborghini and Porsche. They need to be more creative.
You forgot the biggest mistake.. When they cancelled PF because of wanting to upgrade to PU. As in the case of the 42065, what was a $100 set now costs almost $200. That was the nail in the coffin for me, haven't bought any Technic since the 42099.
Yeah the powered up system is definitely severely overpriced. Fortunately, you can buy the lego technic off road buy for about $100 rather than $130 on mercari. Sealed set! The 42099 was definitely an overpriced set. The only set with control+ that's well priced is the 6x6 Volvo articulated hauler. Same price as the l350f wheel loader, with a working gearbox, more pieces, and new motors with rotation sensors! In fact you can find some listings with free shipping on eBay or mercari for the 6x6 Volvo articulated hauler, sealed, for $230

Ebay has really went downhill the last decade though, I've bought and sold hundreds of items on there since 1998, but I'd be hard pressed to sell on there now. Almost a shame how crappy it is anymore. But if you're looking for something, 99.999% it will be on there.
@@Unbrickme Yeah, what I gathered they are pushing 12.5% final value, and hit you every way they can. Insertion, catagory, tax, alot of hidden fees. You name it and they find a way to charge for it. They dumped PP so they run in house payments and withhold the funds for days. How you supposed to ship quick when you're paying out of pocket waiting for the payment to clear. Now they are getting spam buyers getting items and returning other stuff. Ebay sides with the buyer, throwing the sellers under the bus even more.
@Jeremy Davis Yeah I guess, but there's also other factors at play here. It is likely more cost effective for lego to produce larger sets. Also $450 is quite a big amount to spend on a lego set. At that price, technic sets have a very high standard. $250 is much easier to spend on a lego set than $450
One other issue is that the front and back differentials need to be in a specific orientation relative to each other. I thought because of these two issues, the Defender was a learning experience for me, more than any other sets ;-)
They are very cool but the price of them people can't afford them but other than that more would probably sell but they are very neat and be fun if you had kids to build them with thanks

Most of the guns or weapons in LEGO sets are only used in fictional and/or historical settings (Star Wars, stereotypical 18th century pirates, medieval warriors, etc). It has never released a model of a modern military vehicle or aircraft like the Osprey is.
On top of that, being this a licensed set, meant that part of the money from its sales were due to Bell, money that could potentially be used by Bell to produce or develop other military vehicles or weapons.
I also would've loved to see this set released but it's easy to see why LEGO decided otherwise.
What baffles me is how it almost managed to hit the stores before being recalled.

The timing still doesn't make any sense, like Unbrickme also said it was probably a huge waste of money and time developing the set as well as (I assume) a hit to their customer's interest and loyalty (since the set would have been great and was just about to be sold...but recalled shortly before the release date) :(.

It only has little bit trouble with turning the crane cuz some air hoses, but when knowing that its easy to make the air hoses out of the way

The Osprey did break an 8-tooth gear in its gearbox (after extended use, which was because the 8-tooth gear is a very weak gear, if not the weakest gear and was not able to handle the load of the gearbox (basically all the power went through those 3 8-tooth gears)) but that was not the reason that it was pulled from the shelves. As Unbrickme said, it did not comply with LEGO's guidelines of not producing military-related sets, which somehow no one noticed (or did anything about it) until the set was officially released. That was very strange and very sad since I really wanted to get the set because it was so amazing. :(

It did look like a cool set, but despite the rescue labels lego put on the osprey, ospreys aren't really used for such, though i read the navy will start to use them for combat search and rescue missions. Still, has the word "combat" in it. Yet at the turn of the millenium lego had the sopwith camel, though more lego than technic, and it was made more for the shelf
@@dontneedone990 I'm sure it's because of multiple reasons, branding might be one thing (since it is associated with the military/is used in the military) and the gearbox problem was probably another.
I think LEGO tried to pass it off as a "rescue" helicopter since I believe it does do rescue missions, but it mostly does military rescue missions and people started complaining.
I'm not sure why LEGO decided to go on with the Osprey and cancel it so late into the development stage, but I guess we won't know ever know for certain. :(
I think there is a very glaring mistake in the motorized excavator, which looks amazing and I want to justify dropping the money on a set to get to build and play it with myself. As someone who has welded digger buckets together at my last job, that motorized excavator should be rereleased with an actual excavator bucket in the right size to fit. The bucket it uses is straight up a front-end-loader bucket design. It would be cool if they had a more excavator style bucket, and it being so big it would be cool if the side cutters were pieces that would be able to stick to the side cutter mounts plates on each side of the cutting blade with teeth, either through the LEGO system or maybe some kind of Technic attachment.
In real life the side cutter mounts are welded to the bucket as part of the sides, and they have mounting holes machines into them to bolt on the wear pieces which are giant, cast blades, meant to wear down and be replaced as they deal the cutting power on the sides as the bucket bites and the teeth rip. Be a cool way to get more color on the bucket without stickers and it would make it look a lot nicer and closer to real life with removable "wear" pieces. Learning how to put together and weld up digger buckets made me appreciate the design and engineering that goes into them even though they are mostly "static" but boy do they take a lot of force and can deal a great amount of damage. The excavator-specific buckets were the most fun to weld up. I think even an eye-let on the back of the bucket like some excavator buckets would even help added functionality by allowing the excavator to be used as a make-shift crane like in real life.
If you're going to make an excavator model be that cool, don't skimp out on the bucket. Hell, they had the Unimog capable of attaching implements to, and they are sort of encouraging people to make their own implements for the Unimog with that functionality. Excavators can be equipped with a frame that allows them to switch between buckets and implements at the job site. From jack hammers, to rippers, material handling claws or rakes, to anything anyone can fabricate for whatever specific job they need the excavator to do.
I could justify spending a lot more than what the motorized excavator is currently worth if they added in that kind of functionality. And it doesn't seem like it would be hard and the playability would go through the roof.
Just buy the smaller bucket like I did!

Because of how much fun I have with this excavator set, I check out the real machinery when I pass by construction sites. The mechanics of the bottom of the boom arm where the shovel connects requires some work. I look at the real machines and compare what I see in the model, and there is a disconnect. I'm not in the construction or heavy machine operator career path, but I can tell something needs improvement. I will see what I can come up with.
a lego shop owner in my city was telling me about the Osprey, and how it got cancelled, and how Lego asked shop owners to return these sets...
now he has 2 osprey sets which he didnt return, and he was telling me that they sell for really good money since they are rare. i didnt know they can reach that much

Hey I really enjoyed this video. I often wonder how Lego's design process works especially how they decide that a design is "ready". They must create many variations of the same set during the design process and then somehow must choose which they think is the best. I often think about how they would do that. Is it a single person or a committee, and what are their criteria?
Thank you very much! That is an excellent question that I would love to know the answer to aswell! I know that, for the LEGO Technic 2007 motorized bulldozer, many sketch models were created. The designers narrowed it it down to two models, one motorized full RC, and one bigger, with pneumatics, but no RC or motorized functions. The technic designers gave the sets to a group of kids to play with the technic models. They vastly preferred the motorized one, and so LEGO Technic produced the motorized variant. All of this information comes from the "behind the design video" of lego technic in 2007
@@Unbrickme in the building instructions for the Lamborghini Sian they put QR codes so you can see the building process for the different areas of the set.
The Porsche 911 also has the dubious distinction of nearly a month delay in shipping post release as all boxes were hand repacked to limit the instructions crushing all of the inner boxes in transit. Fun times!

Land Rover’s cracking noise is mostly caused by gears, not U-joints because one gear couple has high gear ratio so it can’t synchronize movement due to stress in gearbox itself.
Only if the gears are improperly built though. Following the instructions very carefully, should not result in the Land Rover defender crackling. However, even if you followed the instructions extremely carefully if you bought one of the first Land Rover defenders, the universal joints would be misaligned, causing the crackling sound.
@@Unbrickme I tried to change U-joints many times, and than I watched the gearbox. I have changed one gear couple- there is no cracking any more. Btw, great video as usual, keep going!
there was a infrared reciever mistake in a lego freight train set that i dont remember the name of, normally you get a regular reciever, but for whatever reason, i got the VERY RARE V2 reciever, i dont know if this happened with all sets or just mine. let me know if you have more info.
A big one for me is the suspension on the Bugatti Chiron. After some time the springs simply cannot hold up the weight of the car.

It wasnt a weight issue. The problem lies in the fact that the wishbone are connected using friction pins. So the shock absorbers are not only having to deal with the weight of the car (which they can actually do), they are also having to work against friction pins to move. Replacing these pins with frictionless pins or Axles resolves this problem

For me its not the suspension, just when i pull it foward or back it goes the opposite direction after coming to a full stop
@@ahmedm5988 i think its part of the charm sometimes it almost feels like sets having always some oversight or something minor makes it more fun since you can try to fix it, it makes it into reviews. Imagine if they were all perfect we wouldnt have this fun video
The lego technic 42113 also has a design flaw as the gears that control the two engine's also tear themselves apart with over use there are videos of this also on youtube.
So this might also be why they stopped the release to the main shops.
Yeah, the gearbox had a problem and i had to modify my set. However, it is clear that this is NOT the reason for the cancellation of the bell boeing v22 osprey. The 8043 also had a problem in its linear actuators, and that set was briefly pulled from the lego store, only to come back a few months later. The same thing could've been done with the bell boeing v22 osprey
Actually LEGO made an Leopard 2A MBT at 1:50th size for the danish army on some national occation. It's not an official set, though, so I guess it doesn't count towards their policy of no military vehicles and machines. The model, btw, is on display at the danish armed service headquaters in Copenhagen although not for public viewing.

When I bought the LEGO Mindstorms ev3 education set, I remember, it should include the charger and a building instruction of the LEGO ev3 driving base. But when I unboxed the set, it did not include the charger or a building instruction.
There is actually a mistake that is really easy to fix with the 8860 technic car from the 80s. There is a lego pice that is blocking one of the gears in the gearbox. Lego built in three gears but they blocked one of them so that its only possible to use two of them.

in the 8043 set there was another problem. according to the manual you had to use a blue pin in the gearbox that turns much heavier instead of a white pin.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the gearbox issue in the Osprey that it can break its own gears if you try to turn the propellers forward while they're spinning.
The two most expensive lego technic kits I ever got both had faulty instructions. They were around the year 2000.
The Ferrari Daytona SP3 has mistakes. Parts #21 and #22 on the bottom of the car are included in the kit, but the instructions do not tell you to put the parts on the back of the car. Also, the transmission is wrong, so they fixed it via PDF download. The doors can be a challenge to open properly every time. Mechanically, it takes some light force to push the levers to open the doors, and the trunk tends to slam down all the time. The back window may hit something under the engine cover.
@@williamdemler24 For me, it was one of earlier red cars, from around 2001, and the destroyer droid that was supposed to unroll. Gearbox was seized on the red car, and there was some similar issue with the droid mechanism.

Set 8293 had a misleading mistake with mystery/gambling with the switch type contents. On the later production runs of 8293 the PF switch was the newer ones (without black reverser & snapping polarity) but the box art with the pictured old PF switch (with black reverser and looser polarity) was never updated and not included in the set. From flagging this error to Lego service upon requesting the actual PF old switch pictured they said it was a oversight and now aware of it and said it was actually no longer in production, they refused to update the box art and still sent the wrong newer PF switch of which this has happened twice trying to obtain the old PF switch but got unlucky by getting the newer PF switch. As far as I know the set never updated the box art/advertisement and the set was discontinued shortly after. Some mocs only work using the old type of which is the GBC ball train module, it does not work with the newer PF switch due to high friction. There are many product recalls but they only have to show them if it concerns product safety, if its sloppy quality they dont have to advertise it as the increasingly poorer quality would be the opposite of the brands seemingly meaningless slogan, its sad they making poorer decisions/cutting corners these days.

The PF power functions do continue, but not in the Lego brand. I really enjoy the power function kits, especially the remote-control kits. I do wonder about the future of the app-control kits. Obsolete at some point? There is a Lego Power Functions PF download that will allow you to program your own controls for the hub. I am still learning how to use it.

I recently bought the Lamborghini Sian and it had the pieces with mismatched colours. I contacted Lego's customer care and they were ready to send free replacement for that part. So I don't think it's a issue to be concerned.
LEGO does have pretty good customer support, but I still think that for $380 it should come with the correctly colored parts. Contacting customer service, then waiting many days to recieve replacements just isn't a good experience overall
Just let us know when ou will receive them and how big your disappointment is when you will see that all the connectors are still yellow-ish :)
My one also had slightly mis-matched colours. I wasn't too bothered though to be honest, you can only really see if you look hard in the correct lighting.
These kind of videos aren't about personal issues, because that differs from person to person.
It is simply the fact that the thing came with mismatched parts shows that there definitely is/was a design, technical, production, QA issue. There can't be a discussion whether there is an issue or not...there just is.

But the incorrect position of the propeller shafts is definitely one of the reasons
Can confirm that. There's some weird binding in the gears near the transmission tunnel. Some shafts are not properly supported and build tension that ends up making the transmission cracking

The bell boeing had another problem, the gearbox litteraly broke some gears.
I bought the motorized excavator on eBay and was disappointed by the performance so i swapped the motors, changed the gearing and just for fun made the color scheme red-black instead of yellow-gray

My personal worst fails of Lego technic is
1 the price
2 no real engines
3 weak electric motors
4 no universal Lego technic engine that can be swapped to any set
5 custom Lego engines require so much torque to operate you WILL break parts AND the rpm increase can go from my testing ( 1 hand rotation to 7 wheel rotations)
The Porsche had another problem with its gearbox. On page 121 the two red gear change pieces go in the wrong way around. The result is that the gears jam. It's explained in this video:

After the disappointment of that Porsche I said I wouldn't buy any more of those big cars with their hidden gearboxes.

Not a terribly big mistake, but a mistake none the less... with the Lego Ducati Panigale, if you put the orange screw cog wheel in backwards, then the gears are the right way around. i.e. first down, second up. It's funny, as the instructions make such a big deal about showing you which way to put it in, even going so far as to show you a close-up view of that part of the assembly instructions. So then to go and get it wrong.....

You forgot the biggest mistake.. When they cancelled PF because of wanting to upgrade to PU. As in the case of the 42065, what was a $100 set now costs almost $200. That was the nail in the coffin for me, haven't bought any Technic since the 42099.
Yeah the powered up system is definitely severely overpriced. Fortunately, you can buy the lego technic off road buy for about $100 rather than $130 on mercari. Sealed set! The 42099 was definitely an overpriced set. The only set with control+ that's well priced is the 6x6 Volvo articulated hauler. Same price as the l350f wheel loader, with a working gearbox, more pieces, and new motors with rotation sensors! In fact you can find some listings with free shipping on eBay or mercari for the 6x6 Volvo articulated hauler, sealed, for $230

Ebay has really went downhill the last decade though, I've bought and sold hundreds of items on there since 1998, but I'd be hard pressed to sell on there now. Almost a shame how crappy it is anymore. But if you're looking for something, 99.999% it will be on there.

@@Unbrickme Yeah, what I gathered they are pushing 12.5% final value, and hit you every way they can. Insertion, catagory, tax, alot of hidden fees. You name it and they find a way to charge for it. They dumped PP so they run in house payments and withhold the funds for days. How you supposed to ship quick when you're paying out of pocket waiting for the payment to clear. Now they are getting spam buyers getting items and returning other stuff. Ebay sides with the buyer, throwing the sellers under the bus even more.
@Jeremy Davis Yeah I guess, but there's also other factors at play here. It is likely more cost effective for lego to produce larger sets. Also $450 is quite a big amount to spend on a lego set. At that price, technic sets have a very high standard. $250 is much easier to spend on a lego set than $450

One other issue is that the front and back differentials need to be in a specific orientation relative to each other. I thought because of these two issues, the Defender was a learning experience for me, more than any other sets ;-)
