This guy started playing flute at 20 years old. He's 30/31 in this clip. That's incredible.
This gave me hope😭 I gotta start practicing my instruments immediately
For sure. I've played guitar 13 years and I'm pretty good but not Jethro tull with a flute good.
they had the good acid and micro dots
@@danielhershman7051 Ian is well known anti drugs and fired many band mates for drug abuse
@@danielhershman7051 A music critic once described Ian as "a flamingo on speed." Ian was rather upset by this and has maintained frequently that he has never taken an illegal drug.
This is what happens when you've mastered an art completely and absolutely. You've reached an extreme where you can no longer simply "play the flute" and be satisfied with yourself. The crazy grunting and snorting and funny poses just... works. This group is truly a gift to the world
paradoxically, is a breathtaking flute solo!!!
Damn! My dad told me to come look this guy up and I always thought the flute was lame but this changes everything
Same here
Sometimes, we fathers, say things that may be of interest. ;-)
@@marcmillette9261 agreed, my father stood for about 95% of my taste in music before I moved out and it's still floating around the 75% mark.
I thought the same thing first time I heard this. Late 80s, trying weed when it wasn't legal.
I closed my eyes, reclined my seat. Words cannot express how what I saw. I have been looking for this a while now.
Of course, I did the same thing. Weed is legal now, but I close my eyes and the music just takes over and plays a movie in your head.
The most amazing opus in my lifetime.
And the only song that still takes me away for a few , anyway.
Thank you, Ian
I was just telling my daughter I remember my dad always telling me "Wait for the flute! Wait for the flute!" anytime Jethro Tull was on the radio 😂💜
There are rock stars. And there are rock legends. Then there are gods among men. There will never be another Ian Anderson.
as a flute player i am both VERY impressed and VERY intimidated
You bet😑
Saw it live it was awesome.
lucky bastard
you didnt record??
@@dbfollowme No I didn't record it. Have it only in my memory. 😂
Do you remember what song that this solo in it? Or was it kind of just off rip that Anderson went ham on his flute?
@@frankmerolillo3880what’s the matter with you? Didn’t have the benefit of 40 years of tech in your pocket? Would have had to have a whole f*ck all film crew rolling with you? That’s the problem with folks from back then, can’t stick through with anything, like sneaking hundreds to thousands of pounds of camera equipment in to a concert to record a video that would get posted…. To ummm. Somewhere. 😂😂😂
let's not say it after he is gone. Let's say it now. Damn, this guy in incredible. So dedicated to his fans, such a showman, such a great Scotsman. No wonder the English could never conquer these noble people. Imagine going up against an army of guys with the strength and will of Ian Anderson. The land of William Wallace
What are you on 😂 weird jock
@@adlonsolion4711you don’t have that Poets heart ❤️
King Bee is correct ✅ 👍🏽
Collest comment ever
This guy is so cool omfg
When it comes to flute, Ian Scott Anderson is a magnificent musical genius who tortures his flute! Brilliant, bravo!
Since i was a kid I have been amazed by his performances, and it's just as amazing now!
Oh my almighty God, that's was mind blowing!
He plays like a mischievous forest diety dunking on a band of adventurers for absolutely no reason
Loved it.
Hello Frances, thanks for commenting on most of my videos, I think you're one of the biggest followers of my channel, so if you are interested in any original recording of my collection, just send me a personal message.
Thanks again
Remy
Remy Tena Thanks Remy.
I was a Tull Fan in the late 60s to about 1978. Then I kinda dropped out of Rock and Roll music for 30 years. I always liked Ian's flute playing though. He is like a Composer and really good musical artist. Sort of like, Jethro Tull's Driller invention in 1700s.
Frances MaGinness
You're welcome!
I totally agree
Remy Tena Hello...I am pretty new to viewing things on you tube...not a computer person really at all.....Love all of the TULL things that I have found... no way do I have the time to sit in front of the computer and watch, but I would like to find out about getting some of your posted shows on a dvd or two......Have seen TULL every year since 1976......have some awesome pics from over the years too......went to AMSTERDAM in 03 and tried to tape the HHall show also but my battery died......please get back, thanx! Listening to ian Andersen playing the flute always relaxes me
He has to be the god of flutes.
+Sara Nyhus Absolutely the god of flutes!
channeling his inner demons
This is one of the most epic things I've ever seen.
*whoever knew the flute could be so badass?*

British music legend
through and through!
Good clip, Ian A at his best here! Some new flute sounds, via guttural duet.
Been a fan since Thick.
Absolutely stunned. ❤
I heard a teenage rap performer watch this in wide eyed amazement exclaim "Gangsta Flute!" I never seen Gangsta Flute before!"
Who ''*scats'' while playing the flute?
Jethro... That's who!!!
tocata and fugue with spits in it!!
This is not classical flute playing it is Rock and Roll! So who cares if Ian is a top skilled flute player or not? It is all about creativity, not virtuouse! You wonder in Ian's flute playing...
Paulo Pavel what’swhats classical?
He is classically trained, and one of the best in any universe....
And plays a lot more instruments as well
@@TAGtalkinaboutGod if he was classically trained, he would be using his right hand pinky a lot more considering every note except D requires it.
@@unfunnydave5485 you’re forgetting about low b, c, c#, and high a#, b, and c
@@c_lite8259 forgot those, but I’m not a flute player
Very honorable mention for Spirit of the West.
Viva la flauta mágica
This sounds like the most epic anime battle between and man and his flute
love song!!
As a flute player of 5 years... HOW. HOW IS HE DOING ALL THAT??! THAT IS CRAZY.
Není co dodat, dokonalé!
SO COOL!!
The audience completely bought in to flute as part of a rock and roll act. Tull kicked ass in its day.
Love Ian and group
Incredibile.bravissimo
the best forever my friends......
Muhteşem 😮
Un Grande
He’s my age and he can chill at my house anytime😍

Hey Remy, I didn't find this as part of the Ohne Maulkorb Spezial /German Tv. Any ideas where it was recorded? Thanks!
Ha! it's like Tourette's with a flute. Love this guy, and I wish I had as much fun at my job as he does at his!
When flute solos were cool!

holy fuck i love it
master
bro is channeling his inner demons into the flute
He's who influenced Ann Wilson to play the flute!
Bad ass musician...strange bird though
Mark Squilla Often makes some of the best musicians, or artists in general
Saw live
Fucking AYYYYY
Desperately trying to find what song this was from.. Shazam has no idea.. I saw a version with the music score which was insane, but sadly can't find it now..
Any ideas folks????
Unique and exclusive in the world of rock.
To play and compose like that???
What is the trick???
Ian Anderson: LSD-25 🤣
He is still performing at the age of 76
- So skilled!!!!!💯
Totally Jimmi Hendrix with a flute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️Insaine skills!
I realize Ian liked smoking, but, he was very active and between singing and playing flute, l don't know how he ended up with COPD ?. I smoked for 30 years and my lungs are clear.
Watching & listening this makes me want an Oxygen tank!
Is there a place with the full song?
Is there music for this
Who came hear after watching Anchorman?
Does he have a side embouchure?
Ron Burgundy ??
I have a student here in taiwan. Dunno if she is ready for this yet?
Never is too early or too late to introduce people into tull or any other rock legend
MaLook....
What a silly gentleman.
odd individual 🤪

My friend plays the flute, always thought it was a wack instrument… this is the only way it’s cool!
This is a little better when I played recorder at school in Grade 4
