"You let that ni99a Terry bone.... I know I look better than him" 😂 one of the most iconic lines of the movie
Slim: “BAS-KET-BALL BABY!! Like Curtis Blow” (passes Mike the ball)
Mike: Nawww, but I watch it a lot.
Slim: MANNNNN GET ME THAT BACK!! (Snatches the ball from Mike)
😂😂😂😂
I need someone to talk about how Mike lil brother disappeared in the movie 😂
DeAndre Bond’s well known roles before The Wood was Sunset Park, Spike Lee’s Get On The Bus and Tales From The Hood
They did him dirty on that Master P movie tho
@@moneyisfreedomlock down yeah that shit was a rough watch
@StryfesLyfe "My Homies Call Me Smooth"
After The Wood he did 3 Strikes
@@DeANGELIS4735 Smoooooove
this podcast is jumping up to my top 5 love the appreciation of classic cinema. I'm hooked.
What if Mike's get down/personality is what Stacy truly wanted to be but got caught up in the gang life and that's why he championed for him
To Tony's take on Alicia's home life being fucked up, i disagree. That's not necessarily true, just because her brother was bangin it means the house was fucked up because even y'all said it, he seemed to be a good dude who just happened to bang. And you don't have to come from a fucked up home to bang, you just need to hang around the wrong group. Plus she lived in a house that looked well kept and had an upstairs 😅 everyone dont have an upstairs.
Tony’s takes always be a little “off” to me fr. Don’t get me wrong, the brother is very well spoken, but his point of view on certain things in a lot of these films throws me off sometimes
On top of that, he talking about it screamed apartment complex…..like nigga they lived in a house 😭🤦🏾♂️
What Jah said make more sense. She prolly just had a single parent household, single mom most likely, who was gone most of the time cuz of working long hours maybe. And they both had alota time to do wtf they want pretty much
I always said Lauryn Hill should’ve been the adult Alicia.
This is only the second episode that I've watched. But I'm tapped in. I'm listening wanting to be a part of the conversation. Sounds like conversations I'd have with my brother.
This movie from everyone neighborhood. Great movies
I love that movie it reminded me growing up in the project’s with my friends and I’m Mexican lol .
Melinda Williams played Nia long's character on soul food the TV show I believe
She also played on the short lived HBO series Laurel Avenue & she appeared on the short lived sitcom South Central. Her, DeAundre Bonds & Antwone Tanner were in Sunset Park as well. She was also in A Thin Line Between Love & Hate & High School High.
SLIM: "uhh Mrs. Hughes. What page 15 on? Nevermind, I'll find it.". Bruh!!!! That's a classic, timeless line!
The only "problem" with The Wood is that it's rated R and you'd have to wait until your son's are teenagers to enjoy it with them.
My unsung hero, if I may…Mike’s Mom. None of the movie wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t move them to Cali. AND she pushed Mike to get his boy Roland right for the wedding….(just me).
56:50 I’m glad y’all acknowledged that 😂💯 Dope my favorite movie
I lived on 111th and Yukon the school scene was at the elementary right down the street. Even though I’m no longer in Cali every time I watch The Wood it brings back great memories.
I’m glad someone is breaking down these movies cause I love em but don’t kinda know why
I know whole movie by heart. Classic film. 10/10 in my book. Favorite characters young slim & older Roland.
Young Levinio 🤣
Where the aspirin at
My all time favorite movie, alongside The Best Man. Just an excellent film!
Yo yall gotta do MetorMan
I’m so glad u said that ❤️
And The Five Heartbeats.
sidenote. Malinda Williams (Young Alicia) was 29 when she played that role.
Wowww!
Mike was a real one. Admitted to fucking up, took his ass beating like a man, didnt snitch, earned Stacy's respect, stayed true to himself and stood by his homies.
"GET YO CRYBABY ASS IN THE BACKSEAT!" my favorite line in the movie 🤣
“ Ms.Hues, what page 15 on….never mind I’ll find it.” Lol
I'm from queens New York and this movie made me feel good and brought me back to my childhood. I heard it may be set in California but trust me. This is every black neighborhood story
Podcast is so refreshing!!!! Love this!!!
✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 love the podcast it is quickly becoming my fave . Please do Dead Presidents . I thought Stacy was dead . When they were adults
Dead Presidents is one of my favorite movies.
Top 3 favorite movies hands down! 💯
I finally watched The Wood. Instant Classic. Stacey was an incredible actor!!@
I would love to hear you guys do a top 5 black movies/feel good movies/etc list
Hold up, I can give Tony that Mike is Draymond. Ok, have that. But no way in hell is Roland and Slim Steph and Klay. You just thinking about their friendship, but if we talking about characters who keep the moving going, Alicia is Steph simply because she's been the motivation from beginning to end and she brought so much to the film when you saw her (Melinda Williams did a fantastic job 👏🏾 ). And Stacey would be Klay because even though the film didn't revolve around him, when he got the ball he was knocking them shits down.
My favorite movie of all time
Back with another banger 🔥
Slim and Tonya is a no because that was Roland first love and you can’t do that to your boy
@Biggjah …have y’all thought about Trespass yet? Was a Classic growing up, had to watch it a few times to understand it as a kid but Cube, Ice T..gotta be on the list
When you do your blk character list categorize it
TOP 10 BLK
VILLAIN
: BEST FRIEND
:LOVE INTEREST
: FATHER/MOTHER
Ever person from NC grow up in the early 2000 “ Nigga is you cuz or Blood “ “ Cuz What “ “ Nigga where you from” “ I’m from North Carolina “ 😂😂😂
It’s the perfect movie especially with brothers coming up in age and bullshit we went through !!! The booty touching, the fights, the music, the dancing !! The marriage it’s so ill. Plus my name is Roland. 😂😂😂
This shit tight got me hooked, keep it up pimp ✊🏾💯
I can honestly say the way Big Jah and Big Tone critique the movies 🎥 is better than Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert in my opinion 💯👊🏿
If y'all have time y'all should also speak on the soundtrack. Back in the 90s the soundtrack was a staple of our black cina, they went hand in hand
Love the wood because they was in high school the exact same years me and my guys was in school here in Chicago dope movie 💯
Been hooked on this podcast since this episode…… I need Tone’s top Black Character list!
Yo i asked my girl if she ever saw the wood and she said no what's that i only watched this movie daily because we only had 3 vhs tapes in the house
This is one of me and my brothers favorite movie.
Top movie great podcast glad to see native la peeps rate this movie even though the wood isso relatableworld wide great reveiw made me appreciate the movie even more. From the UK 🇬🇧 keep up the great work
Loved this movie as a kid/teenager, just watched it as an adult and it’s just as good! “ I’m from Winston-Salem North Carolina and I like sports “ 😂
This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I'm from New Orleans.
“Niggah, niggah you know where TF we at?” Brah I lost all motor skills 😂😂😂
Boomerang, the wood and the best man are my all time favorites
My favorite movie bruh!
Great review‼️
The Wood is definitely in my top 5. Listening to y'all tho, made me think, the one thing that would've made this film that much better, is if during the car ride with Stacey, he liked Mike so much that he made him agree to skip the dance and hang with him, until the cops pull them over and he gives Mike a break and let's him go to the dance. Like Tony said, it would've shown how easy Mike's life could've drastically changed if he was hangin with the wrong crew. Plus it would've made you love Mike even more because you would see how easy it was for a kid that young and green to get pulled in the wrong direction and seemingly having no control in the matter. You would appreciate his character more.
This is my favorite movie of all times this is my number one movie I'll tell you that I don't care I remember when they first came out it touched my soul especially the music on this movie back in the days when I was young I'm not a kid anymore some days I wish I was a kid again
This movie and Major Payne are my two favorite movies!
Go back and rewatch ''The Wood'' as if Mike is a first generation American, it would make sense why the writer has the African name and even the story of having to learn the culture on the fly
This makes me wanna watch the movie lol... I used to live in Inglewood for a minute
Y’all cats are legit reviewing these movies! Well done! Keysha E would be fun on here given her STRONG feelings about Black cinema.
Listen I’m from London 🇬🇧 and LOVED this film growing up, remember recording it on vhs back in the day…still bring it up and reference it till today 👊🏾🔥
5 all day
My man said, a Black Pollyanna
Big Mike meets Stacy first and crosses over to the world of Snowfall... (get it?)
Stacy came back in Dope as a Security Guard lol.
A sequel of the wood would’ve been better than the best man sequel.
Edit : Fresh is a classic for those who hasn’t seen it.
this review warmed my heart‼️ all-time favorite movie🖤
Dope show dope show
Stacey was in a wheelchair at the wedding
Y’all gotta do a review on the movie DOPE
They were both the best man
Stacey saw a different version of himself in mike, had he played the schoolboy rather than gangbanging imo.. I also think he recognized Mike was a good kid & saw him fit to date his sister as opposed to a street dude.
My MVP for this movie was Slim 😂😂that man had me rolling the whole time “ you let that nigga terry BONE! Shiid I know I look better than that nigga” 💀the fact that he went from a young dude that we probably thought was dumb to probably the most successful one out of the trio was dope to me. He wasn’t playin bout them Stacy’s 🤣🤣
These rules went for any hood especially here in the D
The wood this a good movie until this day classic
This is my favorite movie and I’m not from California ❤️
Unsung hero is tanya
I'm loving this bro!
He actually did offer him his joint lol “what you muslim or somethin”
Classic film
This is the movie of my life. I would love to see this movie get coverted into a series like The Best Man Final Chapters. Can we please get reviews on the following coming of age movies:
Cooley High
Boyz N The Hood
Roll Bounce
ATL
Dope
Big Mike played in the corner on HBO as well
This was so good. Shit brought be BIKE!
44:50-44:55😂jah turned into balvin bunningham
That's crazy as much as I seen the wood and fresh I never put that together
Inglewood: City of Champions
Oh and I thing Deaundre Bonds was banging FOR REAL. He went to jail for hella years before he got out and got on Snowfall.
I could be wrong but I think he stated in a interview, after playing in “Locked Up”, mentally he couldn’t get out of that character or he just couldn’t shake the act of losing his manhood…
Even tho it was acting, he REALLY took it to heart and became mentally vulnerable….
Slim was my favorite character
In my top 5
Melinda is actually older in real life than Sanaa
Yall dropped the ball or maybe scheduling was off for them....wheres Tanjareen and Sade? lol
Big jah. You gotta do city of gods
J. Weaver could’ve played all three
Make sure yall do BOOMERANG, SOUTH CENTRAL (DEUCE), STRICTLY BUSINESS, MO MONEY
Yall ever seen strapped or straight out of brooklyn
The Wood Or Love And Basketball?
Over acting was Young Mike. Mouth hanging wide open with that terrible Southern Accent. Was cringe worthy
I think overacting is a bad category
This thumbnail looks weird as sh!t.
I can see why people from LA would like this movie, but it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but its not a hood classic. Storyline is very basic with friends just reflecting on how they met, and how they got girls. Nothing special.
Great review
You could recast big mike slim and roland with the.dude from All American. The light skin dude who plays the QB the dude from.crenshaw and pick.another black dude from the crenshaw team
