When the girl recognized J Reed as a cop and god let it slide it was to show that god was beginning to admire him and believe he was who he said he was.
1999 classic. LL Cool J and his most vicious role yet. What he did to his mans frisco was crazy. “ I’m drunk with revenge MF, luv it Think about her, think about her” God: You are cop J? J Reid: What you think? God: I think you know the answer to that clown? Always cracks me up
Based on True Events! I have J Reed’s Daughter watching the Premiere🎉with me tonight. But @7pm. Shhh! Had to do what I had to do. 2 Da MAAAAXXXXXX! Salute Big Jah ✌🏾
I remember watching this with my dad at 6 years old at the time LL Cool J was my favorite actor, Deep Blue Sea, Halloween H20, Any Given Sunday and Kingdom Come were some of my fav films as a kid just because he acted in them. But this and Deliver Us from Eva are my top 2 films of his.
This is easily one of my favorite movies. I agree with some of the plot holes. If this movie was 30 more mins mannnnn. But it still is a great movie. Yes I felt bad for God "you ain't no cop J Reed, you ain't no cop".
@91Definite right and it would of filled some of the plot holes. I wanted to see how J Reed got in deep in more detail. Maybe God's rise to the top. I think 30 mins would of put it up there with Deep Cover and other classics. It's still one of my favorites.
@@91Definiteme too I always wonder what happened to the rest of GOD'S crew they just disappeared & in my opinion ll cool j character & omar epps they didn't spend enough time together for him to fall like that for him
You guys nailed it. The scene where God finds out that J Reed was a cop and betrayed it was absolutely heartbreaking. LL was amazing in this role. Love this film. I liked this movie better than Dead Presidents.
LL carried this movie. It was the first time I saw him not the lover boy or the smiling good guy role and he was believable. Even tho he was the "villain" and did some of the most foul stuff throughout, by the end of the movie I didn't want to see him go out the way he did. When I think of LLs acting resumè In Too Deep is the first title I think of. For me even tho the movie wasn't anywhere near as good as Training Day, LL played that dark drug dealer role just as good as Denzel played a crooked cop.
@54:22 if you go back to that diner scene, they said that God only really feeds and trust the dudes he came out there with. All the local thugs barely got enough to get by. So that isolation God built was his ultimate downfall.
Right they all was being upfront with J Reed! Saying that they ain’t getting paid unless they prove themselves. Them niggas looked like they ain’t eat like that either in days
Psychopaths are usually charming. It's a characteristic actually in the definition of psychopaths. That's one way serial killers are able to get close to their victims.
I’m so glad you guys are reviewing this film. This was one of my favorites as a teen when it came out. My question then and even on a rewatch years later, and maybe someone can answer for me. What was the deal that was supposed to happen between J. Reed, Ozzie, and Gash? Because it did, from the outside looking in; look like they were trying to set him up. Especially when Gash said they had to prove them selves. What was supposed to happen? That always confuses me? I’ve even gone to google and asked the same question. 😂😂😂
I really like the scene when Cole meets up with his superiors for one last time before the big bust. He was more J Reid than Cole by that point. Stanley T says something about how crazy he’s acting and the other guy says “thats why gittens trust him. Connelly was right, no one will ever get in this deep again.”
I've gone back to most of the movies you guys review that I saw when I was younger and it feels like an entirely different movie a lot of the time I don't even remember majority of it so it's like I'm watching it for the first time again and I look at the characters different now
I never felt bad for God because he was too naive to realize J Reid was a cop. I always felt bad for Boston George in Blow because everyone he dealt with did him dirty and they all started from the bottom together..
I don’t think god dismissed those claims that j reed was a cop. I think he showed that if he were to be a cop, that what was going to happen. Because by then he gained a lil love for J Reed!!
I don't see Ice Cube pulling off God just based on what we've seen. I'm basing this on some of his more serious roles. Triple X: State of the Union, Fist Fight, Anaconda, The Longshots, 21Jump Street. For the most part other than Anaconda which his role was small in and Triple X they were more comedic roles. For me in State of the Union he just didn't come off as believable playing a guy who was supposed to be military trained and a top notch agent. He still came off as comedic in certain areas of the movie. LL pulled off a completely unique character that you felt like you'd be legitimately fearful of in real life. I'm not arguing if Ice Cube could pull it off or not. I'm just saying we haven't seen that side of him in a role.
I didn’t feel sorry for God being betrayed by Jay Reed, because he was a sociopath, and none of his crew respected him, they only feared him. I think JD’s character deserved the LVP award, because I don’t think it was needed.
I remember going to the movies in 1999 to see this.... NEVER STOPPED WATCHING IT... UNDERRATED HOOD CLASSIC!!!! Let's not forget LLCOOLJ showed his true Gangster mystique in this one. I haven't seen that kind of acting from him since then, great actor overall!!! 4 Black Fist✊️
Although he had a small part in players club cube, he did play a sinister role setting up monica calhune to get rapped and his role in trespass was kinda grimey as well! Don't count cube out 100%! I'm just saying.
That’s what I’m saying and he was evil asf! Him and his lil man sidekick in the movie what Diamond spoke of the outcome was that they was last seen at the Freaknik in Atlanta. I think they got killed of anything 😂
J. Reed was actually Jeffery Coy from Boston. The people who were in Orchard Park said Jeff Coy saved lives and changed the city. Peace to God’s family and God’s Son (no Nas). ✌🏾
Yo LL done acted in alot of movie's since this one but he absolutely bodied this role. I know it's a "hood" movie but I always think of this movie when thinking of LL because some of us wasn't privy to his rap career
I always thought that was crazy. Somebody would have made J Reed. He should have sent someone up to Akron to peep his story... Im way to paranoid to be a drug king pin. I would hire a private investigator to look into anyone I do business with.
Just getting to the end after my comment about suggesting you guys cover Deep Cover y'all said y'all will be working on it cool and I agree In Too Deep is a 3.5
the movie was excellent. that pool table scene took me out. LL did his big on this movie for real. what tripped me out is that Jeff Coy (the real life J Reid) ends up unaliving himself 2 years after Darryl Whiting (the real life "God") goes to prison. that was kinda sad.
For me? I thought Breezy T in the end was maybe a undercover cop as well when he approached him but he was one of the guys to testify. I honestly felt this movie was good? They should’ve put another 30 mins in this movie! Omar Epps character as the undercover you can tell he was beginning to fuck with God’s men! I mean Idk if they all fuck with the alter ego J Reed? But it seem that they all fuck with him cause when JD character “Melvin” tried to knock his ass out with the bottle his men came and jumped his ass. My part on that was when J Reed 🦵 his face up like a field goal 😂! That was hilarious, another part I enjoyed was at the Diner. When he asked how God treating them and they told the truth to him “God ain’t giving us no money til we prove ourselves.” And they was eating like they ain’t eat in days too. Especially Shyheim character eating them damn fries 😂! Idk why people go on him about that scene which probably memorable to a lot of folks. J Reed blessed them with some money and asked young nigga to get the waiter number for him for the money. He went right to it no questions! That’s when J Reed start to have a soft spot for them guys! Cause I’m pretty sure they fuck with him though he’s a undercover cop and he does too. I think that’s what I liked about the movie! A rookie going undercover and having a personal battle with himself to know who he is and what he’s not. His chief really fucked with him and he was worried he didn’t wanna lose him! Sound like some father type shit to me foreal 💯! In the end it was sad to see God disappointed in the fact he did save his life and he can’t get no prison time cut short from that 🤔! He was very hurt and I was hurt for him, God wasn’t all bad? But he wasn’t all fair and good either. This movie had its moments the thing it should’ve been alittle more
LL playing God is one of his best roles
I agree 150%, LL in my opinion played a psycopath drug lord as well/ better than Wesley Snipes

Although right after that, god tortured his homeboy in front of J Reid.

I loved LL’s performance as God. He was amazing! God was a calm but vicious dope dealer.
LL cool J is highly underrated actor definitely a top 4 rapper turned actor .
The Omar Epps character was based on a real person. Sadly, the real-life officer committed suicide due to PTSD from the job. Look it up.
Damn…Thats fucked up and he probably seen so much it made him go crazy 🥺
The scene where Cole visits Myra at the dance studio is the best scene to me. He literally can’t differentiate who he is at this point.

Cleveland to Cincinnati is the difference between La to Vegas. It’s two different worlds though.
Hill Harper did a great job in this movie. He wasnt in too many scenes, but he killed it with his scenes with the crew.
The biggest flaw of the movie is Omar Epps is accused of being a cop after he returns after killing Sticky Fingers
