You missed the very first Buc-ee's and you drove right past it (it's actually Clute, LJ is across the street). It was right past the Kroger's before the railroad tracks on Oyster Creek Drive. Very small compared to most today. The main office was there too at one time. Buc-ee's is headquartered in Lake Jackson. For many years Buc-ee's was only in this area, Clute, LJ, Brazoria, Angleton, Freeport, Surfside. The Surfside store was the largest Buc-ee's until 2005 when the Luling store opened.
I saw this episode on TV and then by chance my wife and I had to go to Lake Jackson for a few days for business. This information made our trip very very enjoyable. Thank you Daytripper! By the way, Poly Pop is every bit as good as he says! The ramen is out of this world, and the drinks are awesome! There are many other great places like that in Lake Jackson's little (walking distance) downtown area, British pub, German beer hall, and several other unique food options, a great town for foodies! We wouldn't have found any of these places if the Daytripper hadn't told us about Poly Pop in the first place. Very neat town a short drive from the beach. Worth a visit IMHO.
LJ is the birthplace of Selena Quintanilla Pérez. Her statue is in Corpus Christi. There is also an old cemetery by the mall. There are many old cemeteries throughout LJ.
Hometown pride! Very sad that you didn't mention the fact that we are home to the ORIGINAL Buc-ees! We have so many other amazing things to see...especially way better things than Bodega! That place changed to smash burgers I think 🤔
Wife is from Freeport. I was there in June, just this past weekend in July and going for New Years. We're actually moving there soon. Love the area and the people. Even my 22 year old son loved it and is coming with us and he's hard to please. Can't wait to call this area home.
You didn’t mention that we are the home of bucees and I fully expected you to go to Asiels after mammoth lake, they’ve been around lake Jackson since I was kid, originally known as the Soda Shack (where LJ seafood is) before they discovered the mammoth and turned it into a lake.
Since you were a kid? That didn't exist until 2007. It was a commercial sandpit, not a lake, until they found fossils in it while digging in the sandpit in 2003. Also, it's located in Clute. Definitely not a brazosport classic just yet. Good maybe, but doesn't represent the area. IMO. I'm a native born and raised.
I'll have to hand it to you Chet. I'm a born-and-raised texting and I've been all over the state as a truck driver headed to risk and I have never known that there was a Lake Jackson Texas.
@@TheDaytripper have you done a video there yet? I searched but couldn't find anything. My former teacher is the mayor now and she is a HUGE history buff.
Thank you Daytripper for the full episodes. I am not a Texan, yet…. But I am planning some trips. I will be stopping by the Merch store to show some gratitude.
@@autismunfiltered5968 It’s still Bodega, but they scratched the entire sandwich menu and serve smash burgers now. I don’t want to knock it since I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m still a little sad.

Great video. My parents are old and moving to Lake Jackson next year. Great medical facilities and a nice town.
All the locals call it the city of entrapment 💁🏽♀️
lol that's a fact
Yes we do! 😂
