Great video gents. 👍 I agree with the other comments, best dyno video shown thus far. Yeah, like you said 9.7 something is way to low, almost suitable for some forced induction. I but need not tell you guys that. I would stick a set of 1300 or 1100 pistons in there. Top men.👌 From S.A

Good vid', got a soft spot for the old FORDs, even though I'm a Chevette chap.
minor correction, it's (swept volume + unswept)/unswept, so the swept would be 8.75 times the combustion chamber volume with a 9.75 : 1 compression ratio.
It gets confusing with the Heron/bowl in piston design, and even worse if you do the milled LOTUS piston conversion where the piston top is flat and the "combustion chamber" is formed by having the piston deck clearance much higher than normal, but the equation is still the same. I don't know if this is still done as, while it gives excellent breathing for power, the lack of quench means the fuel-air mixing is terrible at part throttle and/or lower rpm. Least ways, with carbies is is, with the improved atomisation of injection, it may be less of an issue.
For the engine spec', that's a very good output - reminds me of the old thing with every 'modified' Kend having "135 hp".

What's the treadwear rating on those tyres? I have a stock 1600 and can't even spin my 205/60 R13 AR-1's in the wet haha. They are 80 TW though, so super soft. I've got a rebuilt 1660 with loads of goodies, a cam between a 234 and 244 and twin 40s to go in that'll solve that

Lovely work on the Dyno. Power is spot on for the spec, defo go for the new pistons, would be great to see it up around 150BHP.... Then you will need some work on the Axle to prevent the tramping....😀

    well, the seats stayed in...
when i was a lad, mk2 escorts used the rule-of-nine for their tappets [kent], + fiesta [valencia] used the on-the rock . tappets were set 4 thou loose for their first startup, + after half hour running, [stationary, with frequent gentle rev-ups], heads re-torqued, tappets set properly, then gentle run out. it wasnt till stretch head bolts came out that retorquing was put away [cvh]

Even before the tune you can see the rear brake caliper changing position under load because the torque load through the axle is twisting the leaf springs, more power will mean you'll need to tune the suspension too.

Outstanding! A friend of mine changed carb jets on his 1978 ferrari 308 to cope with the modern fuel last year. Which made it run sweet. Very informative, especially running the piston rings in! Any more vlogs of the escort or is it move to a new project?

Those valve seat were cut Badly going on the valve after you Lapped then The Lap Joint should be Central and a little thinner , Lift the Lapper up and down a few times also when you are Lapping them in , You will feel the Diff and understand Why .

That power output is way too optimistic . LOL ..Standard head with standard valves you say . 1700cc. ? Compression is rather low at 110 psi ish (?) .Ok Two x 40`s needs 45`s Webers Kent camshaft (??) What distributor setting? I would say 120 bhp is more like it
Estimated 160 bhp is top circuit racer output .at 9000 rpm
Rolling road must be very lightly loaded.

With the pistons you really need to use the pistons for a 1,300cc Kent. This will get the CR where you need it to be.

Lovely car-old school on carbs.Good strong cross flow. Not too lumpy on tick over.Ignition system?Aiming for 160 hp-what are the internals?Think getting to about the limit without starting to go steel and throttle bodies with engine management at that point?

I couldn’t believe that the difference between 120 jets and 130’s is about 0.2mm wider hole. Amazing the difference it gives.
