another interpretation of this Michigan success over Ohio State is the realization that the lack of offense (a capable QB) for our 2024 team severely tanked the season for an extremely talented overall Michigan team. The Michigan defensive front seven is unmatched in college football. Michigan dared Ohio State to run the ball, we had seven people in coverage. It didn’t matter if Ohio State lthrew the ball. we were not giving up the big play. Michigan defensive line of four stop the run AND put pressure on the QB all on their own … major props to the defense, major major apologies to those kids for what could’ve been IF Michigan had a quarterback this year.
As a OSU fan I totally agree. You know you always used to hear defense wins championships and michigan D was the best OSU faced. It also makes me wonder with michigan beating us and bama how did they lose to some of the mid level big 10 teams? Day and his big ego trying to prove Lou Holtz's of the world wrong is what it looked like to, well, everyone and then proceed to play right into michigans strength. Which begs the question to Day why when every other coach says you gameplan to attack the others weakness which if michigans D had any it would have to be the less experienced secondary, which of course we all they really never did, Why is the million dollar question he wilk never answer.
I still can`t believe Michigan beat us with a walk on QB. Michigan just seems to play a tougher, more physical brand of football than we do. Thank God Michigan did not have a QB this season or they would be in the final 4.
Not playing like that now. They are playing angry asf like their wife cheated on them or something, looking to murder the opposition. I’ve never seen a team so hungry in my life
Pressure on the QB was constant, Michigan was living rent free in OSU’s backfield. Looked like Howard had a clean pocket for many of his throws against Oregon. I’m not saying, just saying.
First person that prints up the “Ohio State National Champions” t-shirt with an obnoxious “Lost to Michigan” printed over it will probably make a lot of money in Ann Arbor. Every person will wear it at next years game.
Wasn't Chris literally saying not to take the game so seriously after the flag planting brawl?!?! Now he's saying "it didn't matter as much" I can't believe this type of historical revisionist history
I think with all things considered, you give Michigan a passing game that’s half way competent, then they’re a playoff team. The defense was extremely good. We looked like Iowa this year.
Michigan has lived rent free in the heads of THE ohio fans for decades, i worked in columbus from 2003-2007, my 1st week at work a girl came in every day with a new michigan joke, after a week of this she came in and said '' hey i thought of another Michigan joke last night'' , so i asked her, '' whats it like to sit at home EVERY NIGHT and think of Michigan'',, funny i never heard another joke from her.
@@user-dw9fc6ev7xIf you don’t think we have a ton of Ohio State fans on the Michigan shows, you are sorely mistaken, my friend. You’re going to have that with rivalries. It just so happens that about 75% or more of your fanbase is mentally fried and thinks about Michigan more than your own team. Saban didn’t say you guys are too obsessed over this rivalry for nothing. That’s a man that played the iron bowl every year too
Being More Man then them, and that Defense is really good when you have the Dline like Michigan has and that brand of ball, with a QB they don’t lose 5 games
Instead of eliminating each other from contention like the old bowl games. That game is going to now start deciding seating and possibly knocking each other out of the playoffs. That game at the last weekend of November like usual will always matter no matter what
I know the feeling. Livin thru the 90's and Cooper it was hell here in Columbus. M fans everywhere. I remember when I bought my first house on the westside of Columbus there was an older gentlemen with a big blue lifted chevy truck that during the michigan week would put this giant M flag in the back and drive all around. Would see him everyday in it. Then Jim Tressel came in and the win at michigan which was like the first there that I can remember was like this giant anchor had been lifted from our necks! What a day! As the wins kept comin the amount of fans you would see at the grocery stores and around town with all the flags on peoples cars slowly disappeared. Even the truck guy after a few wins stopped driving around. So I can relate to what michigan fans feel like after the current streak started. Theres nothing better than getting that monkey off your back.😅
Michigan's guys played way above themselves against both Ohio State and Alabama. Michigan is still a very good team. With a good starting quarterback they will be great again.
That's not even true. The defense is stout, even without KG, Mason and Will Johnson. Guys like D Moore, Zeke Berry and B Hillman were just biding their time until it's their time to start and then the cycle repeats itself...got a bunch of underclassmen waiting in the wings will be rotational guys next year, get developed and get experience then dominate soph. and junior years and get drafted...rinse repeat. This is Michigan.
They played below themselves until Wink figured out the defense during the Northwestern game. He stopped calling blitzes and trusted his front four to get pressure and put opposing QBs through hell. Tennessee and Oregon can't do that, which why OSUs offense is now breaking out.
2023 15-0 perfect Championship season with win over Mich st, Penn St, Ohio st, Alabama and undefeated Washington... Vs. 2024 13-2 osu that "maybe" wins the championship and lost to both Oregon and Michigan....thats tainted
If Ohio State threw the ball instead of trying to beat Michigan at their game.......Ohio State wouldn't have had a problem with your so-so Michigan team. It's just plain and simple that Michigan is in their heads.....that's it.
We as Michigan fans know Ryan Day is lying. It hurt them more to lose to us and if they do win a national championship, it does not mean nothing because they did not beat the team up north go blue.
Rich is right there is no team that stands above everyone this year. All the teams playing OSU have to do is watch the Michigan tape, this year, last year, and the year before. The weakest link with the Bucks is the QB. This guy can't move, and freezes under pressure. Texas has to sellout to pressure the QB. To have the weakest link be your QB is pretty critical as he handles the ball every play.
Rich. Michigan beat Ohio State because the Wolverines went into the Horseshoe believing they could win and the Bucknuts went into that game believing that Michigan didn't have a chance.
Rich watch the all 22. Michigan took smith out of the game. Just like they did for the most part with Marvin Harrison. Your not gotta tell me smith is way better than Marvin Harrison because I don't believe it. He may be just as good but he is not like some kind of world apart from Marvin. Michigan has done this now year after year and OSU has been loaded year after year! You think Howard is better than stroud? Doubt that
Two points as a retired Army officer in combat arms.. 1. Team beats talent 2. Leadership matters when in stressful conditions 3. Simplicity and violence of action are the keys to a good battle plan/victory/win. 4. The psychological battle can decide a battle before the first shot is fired… 5. Lastly, we (Michigan Wolverines) live in thier heads… and 30NOV24 will be their eternal nightmare. Not only did Michigan win in their Stadium ( which does resemble a toilet from the air OBTW) but Michigan denied them a shot at the Conference title! IMHO also, 12 team National Championship is TOO many teams… and losing your conference should matter when benign considered for the National championship playoffs . PS. Happy New Year Rich, and your play calling live is the BEST of everyone!
Even if Ohio State wins the title, they still didn’t beat us. We can always hold that over them, especially when we beat them on the way to our National Championship.
*Undefeated season* topped off w/ B1G Championship & Natty. Even if OSU wins the Natty, they lost 2 regular season games & missed the B1G Championship. They got lucky that the CFP switched to 12 teams this year b/c a 2-loss team would be highly unlikely to get in under the old rules.
Tough to play your best game when the other team has heart and feels they must win. Happens all the time and that is something that helps college sports grow and be special. Let's go 💛 💙
This was a great ‘end all the talk’ episode. I love Rich Eisen’s take on it. Let’s see what some of the other survivors in the CFP have to say about OSU. I’d like to think we aren’t gonna see any more blowouts.
holding the 2024 loss over them will forever be glorious! the weather, the flu, only five bad plays, the signs, the play calling, all the excuses are just too good.
Fellow Michigan alum here, Rich. Love your takes, but you're wrong about Week 1 games in the Big House. We were chanting "beat Ohio" after a smackdown of Eastern Michigan one year. It's more petty than you let on, but yes, we live rent-free in the minds of Buckeyes. 🤣
It did matter to OSU and us Buckeye fans. Put offensive play calling doomed us but TTUN won the game fair and square. I was rooting for TTUN against Bama. I feel like the Buckeyes have treated this game way differently, to the point it’s counter productive. They won last year because they were the better team. Not by much but they won.
Ohio State beat them selves in that Michigan game .......Congrats to Michigan they played tough and beat OSU but if OSU would have just made the 2 field goals they would have won that game . Again Congrats to Michigan they beat Ohio State and did it this time without the help of Connor Stallions
Despite what happens to ColUMbust-ohio blackeyes that Michigan cloud will always loom over them. Go Blue. "THE" NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 🏆 🥇 🏅 👏 🙌 💪 🏆 🥇 🏅 👏 🙌 💪 🏆 🥇
Michigan has been the "worse" team for 4 straight years....at some point, its the strategy. But in regards to App St, Michigan has played them a few times since and proved that 1 time was a one off....4 times in a row is a trend.
I give Ryan Day credit saying they are the sum of their experiences. I think the Michigan loss was the smack in the face that woke up Ohio St. We need to remember Michigan was built to beat only one team and that team is Ohio St.
Rich is acting like UM people are cool as a cucumber regarding Ohio State… while he devotes segments of his show to his hatred of Ohio… I love Rich so much. And his opinions and his show are spot on every time (best show in sports)… but his fandom for UM makes his college football commentary tougher to watch. But I’ll keep watching. He’s the most likable Michigan fan I know :)
I think that it’s pretty clear what’s happened: A - The QB was actually concussed when he got rocked against Michigan (when he was attempting to run the ball early in the game), or B- Day has finally handed the offense over to Chip. The Michigan loss was one game, and you don’t want the Buckeyes running on emotion ‘cause that crap can’t last forever.
Yes. And we are in their heads. But my OSU buddy did finally thank me ( a Michigan Alum) for getting them pissed off enough to actually play to their potential. I told him it might work against everybody but us.
This guy saying that it didn't mattered to the suckeyes like it did for Michigan shows his ineptitude on the rivalry... Idk why he's talking CFB at all at this point
Dan Lanning said it! You have to be playing your best ball at the end and that's exactly what Michigan is doing and that's why they beat OSU for the 4th straight time!! And Bama!! Just because Michigan lost some games early on doesn't mean they didn't have the ability. They just didn't have a QB and the defense was put in exhausting scenarios and they lost a ton last season between players and coaches. So they had growing pains but once they got rolling they were the better football team. They would beat Tennessee and Oregon with the way they are playing on defense. Id give them better odds with a ligit QB but still they would win the trenches
Rich: the answer is grossly under-coached/badly-coached Buckeyes vs Michigan. Hugely stupid offensive scheme and play-calling by Chip Kelly/Ryan Dy, that is how the Buckeyes lost their last game vs Michigan
If I had to guess, yeah OSU was probably motivated after that Michigan loss. But I think Will Howard probably took it the hardest, and most likely ascended to the next level in practice. That guy was very serious about buying into the OSU culture. He messed up vs Oregon and he probably felt very responsible for losing to Michigan. OSU always had the receivers but I think Howard is playing incredibly confident at the moment and him taking the next step is probably the root of their success.
Rich Eisen is going to wake up a year from now and realize he’s the last man on Earth who realizes his team’s bitter rival just isn’t that into him anymore.
If Ohio st win the natty, next years game will be the biggest most explosive game ever! The last 2 national champs! In Ann Arbor! It will be the most watch game in college football history!
It is possible now, with the big ten doing away with divisions and the top two teams play in the championship game, to see michigan and osu play three times in a single season. They meet in the last week as undefeated teams, both make the big ten championship game the next week, and the records after that put both into the playoff, and they could meet again there
I respect Rich, when asked, .."Would have rather lost to OSU, than have them win a natty". Him sayin NO..is the same answer id give (as a staunch Buckeye fan) if the rolls were reversed. (OSU out Mich in) Kudos to Rich. Don't give up yer pride.
The commentators of that Ohio Michigan game along with Ohio State fans were questioning why Chip Kelly kept running the ball instead of throwing it. We all saw it including Ray and Steve wonder. Very suspicious plays if you ask both parties ( Commentators and Buckeye Fans) watching the game unfold
Please keep bringing up the Michigan game. It is clearly pissing them off. I hope they stay this pissed until the end of time.

Bro y’all are still mad lol. I was mad when we lost 8 straight. So yeah, you’re mad lol. Denial isn’t healthy 🤣🤣
I love this comment lol@@teen_laqueefa
It's good to see the curriculum includes grammar... Double negative, so you are still mad. Thanks for clarifying that for us.
Michigan has a great defense . Especially when they found themselves toward the end of the year
It's so crazy watching someone grasp at straws trying to understand the Michigan OSU rivalry. If you're not a part of the rivalry you won't understand the rivalry and you should stop trying. Any person who says that The Game doesn't matter as much because of the new college football playoff is clearly neither an Ohio State fan nor a Michigan fan. They have no understanding of the rivalry and they never will. The rivalry is in our blood. The respect and the hatred between these teams can never be diminished.
That game matters more than any other game period I'm OSU and it hurts to loose to ttun now I know how ttun felt the URBAN MYERS years what 7 in a row I know that hurt ttun fans yes they can win a natty but that big game up north you don't forget hats off to ttun and GO BUCKS see y'all next season
another interpretation of this Michigan success over Ohio State is the realization that the lack of offense (a capable QB) for our 2024 team severely tanked the season for an extremely talented overall Michigan team. The Michigan defensive front seven is unmatched in college football. Michigan dared Ohio State to run the ball, we had seven people in coverage. It didn’t matter if Ohio State lthrew the ball. we were not giving up the big play. Michigan defensive line of four stop the run AND put pressure on the QB all on their own …
major props to the defense, major major apologies to those kids for what could’ve been IF Michigan had a quarterback this year.
100%
Michigan fan, you guy obviously are a better team your coach lost that game for you
sad but true. lack of a QB wasted an overall very talented and physical team
Not playing like that now. They are playing angry asf like their wife cheated on them or something, looking to murder the opposition. I’ve never seen a team so hungry in my life
@@mattnorcia5593 you just described the last 3/4 years of Michigan football
I think Michigan was better than their record. Defense was absolutely stifling when they had a half decent qb
With a decent QB Michigan is playing in the playoffs, and possibly the Big Ten Champions.
Pressure on the QB was constant, Michigan was living rent free in OSU’s backfield. Looked like Howard had a clean pocket for many of his throws against Oregon. I’m not saying, just saying.
Alabama is asking the same thing !😂😂😂
I’m thinking Michigan would own a share of the national title if Ohio State wins it…
Yep!
First person that prints up the “Ohio State National Champions” t-shirt with an obnoxious “Lost to Michigan” printed over it will probably make a lot of money in Ann Arbor. Every person will wear it at next years game.
UM vs OSU not at one of those two iconic stadiums will be a let down. UNLESS ITS THE ROSE BOWL! OSU vs UM at the Rose Bowl is a dream.
“Ohio state was like ‘this game is fine’” you TRULY don’t understand. That is not how it was. This is rivalry is real. You don’t understand man.
Wasn't Chris literally saying not to take the game so seriously after the flag planting brawl?!?! Now he's saying "it didn't matter as much" I can't believe this type of historical revisionist history
BS - only people that say "the Game" dont matter as much are non UM or OSU fans.
I think with all things considered, you give Michigan a passing game that’s half way competent, then they’re a playoff team. The defense was extremely good. We looked like Iowa this year.
Which is why I'm excited for next season. We are likely going to get exactly that as well as Michigan having an easier schedule.
Michigan had to teach it's little brother some humility - you're welcome
weird
@matthattenbach5414 buckeyes had hubris but michigan knocked that out of them - not weird at all
Very on brand for a "Michigan man" to make it all about him tbf
The Michigan Ohio game means everything, it’s more than the national championship!
No matter what. They will always have to deal with the loss to MICHIGAN
It's the other way around, I see Michigan fans on Ohio states pages all the time.
That’s a man that played the iron bowl every year too
Michigan woke up a sleeping giant, and know it’s everyone else’s problem
Sleeping giant? Not really. Ohio State got lucky. Luck runs out.
@@mikerodgers7620how is winnng by 20 lucky??

Being More Man then them, and that Defense is really good when you have the Dline like Michigan has and that brand of ball, with a QB they don’t lose 5 games
Instead of eliminating each other from contention like the old bowl games. That game is going to now start deciding seating and possibly knocking each other out of the playoffs. That game at the last weekend of November like usual will always matter no matter what
That game usually did knock one of them out. WTF are you talking bout?
There is nothing better than defeating Ohio State in Columbus, no matter what their record or rank is. Go Blue!
If… blah blah blah Ohio state wouldn’t have a problem blah blah blah
How many picks did you guys throw against Michigan I forgot
If Ohio state threw the ball more you would have probably thrown even more interceptions
Just like the one Howard threw into Makari Paige’s lap in the red zone🤣🤣🤣
Oh the coverage was good
We as Michigan fans know Ryan Day is lying. It hurt them more to lose to us and if they do win a national championship, it does not mean nothing because they did not beat the team up north go blue.
grammar of a 2 year old
Michigan can talk trash to anyone B cause they can back it up just ask Ohio state they have a Michigan flag planted on there 50 yard line
It mattered! No question. Agreed it is different now.
If you think the game didnt matter to OSU you don't understand the rivalry
Rich. Michigan beat Ohio State because the Wolverines went into the Horseshoe believing they could win and the Bucknuts went into that game believing that Michigan didn't have a chance.
MICHIGAN still living rent free in these fools' heads. Lol😁
Q: How did MICHIGAN beat ohio state?
A: Which time.
It’s recorded for all to see.
How about 2012-2019? It's recorded for all to see.
Doubt that
Michigan beating OSU is the ultimate asterisk * If OSU eventually wins the natty.
Rich's sidekick clearly doesn't understand the rivalry
Two points as a retired Army officer in combat arms..
1. Team beats talent
2. Leadership matters when in stressful conditions
3. Simplicity and violence of action are the keys to a good battle plan/victory/win.
4. The psychological battle can decide a battle before the first shot is fired…

Edit & I'll delete. 🟡🔵
It would be interesting to see the number of unsportsmanlike penalties against each team in The Game, the last five or ten years.
!! GO BLUE !!
Please keep bringing it up 🌰
Even if Ohio State wins the title, they still didn’t beat us.
Will that take another 27 years?
Wtf kinda question was that from Brockman 💀
Tough to play your best game when the other team has heart and feels they must win. Happens all the time and that is something that helps college sports grow and be special. Let's go 💛 💙
"play to your strengths and understand your weaknesses." Sums up the turn around from The Game
Ohio’s playoff opponents just need to wear iconic maize and blue winged helmets and they would destroy that Ohio college. Problem solved.
The winner of Ohio State is the greatest feeling ever!!
Michigan fan here. The game means just as much now as it ever did. It will never not mean everything.
You know who didn't have to learn from tough losses on the way to winning a Natty? Michigan team 144... 15-0 National Champions.
Beating Ohio State (and now Alabama) makes it a successful season for Michigan!
The Michigan loss has rallied OSU. They routed Tennessee and Oregon since.
It mattered. That's why they wanted to fight at the end of the game. The Game is everything! You still have to win it!
It's because the basics of football still matter - line of scrimmage, good coaching, blocking and tackling..
Michigan was improving, pure and simple Indiana and Washington were lucky
Ohio State beat them selves in that Michigan game .......Congrats to Michigan they played tough and beat OSU but if OSU would have just made the 2 field goals they would have won that game . Again Congrats to Michigan they beat Ohio State and did it this time without the help of Connor Stallions

Remember that App St. Game? Sometimes the worse team wins, it happens.
Michigan has been the "worse" team for 4 straight years....at some point, its the strategy. But in regards to App St, Michigan has played them a few times since and proved that 1 time was a one off....4 times in a row is a trend.
Especially in rivalry games.
That's funny, we've been told that the worse team won for the last four years in a row....
App St. wasn’t the defending national champion.
@@gerrymanrique9395 they were actually...defending 2 time national champ
michigan will be the only team the OSU has not beat this year.
I give Ryan Day credit saying they are the sum of their experiences. I think the Michigan loss was the smack in the face that woke up Ohio St. We need to remember Michigan was built to beat only one team and that team is Ohio St.
Rich is acting like UM people are cool as a cucumber regarding Ohio State… while he devotes segments of his show to his hatred of Ohio…
I love Rich so much. And his opinions and his show are spot on every time (best show in sports)… but his fandom for UM makes his college football commentary tougher to watch.
But I’ll keep watching. He’s the most likable Michigan fan I know :)
Yeah but, OSU is not off the hook yet. We will see if they can hold this up.
Given that Breer wasn't on for a month after OSU-Michigan, if the Buckeyes wins the national title, what is the over/under on when he gets back on?
As a michigan fan, i actually believe Will Howard played concussed against michigan. Ohio State just does not want to admit they made him do it.
I’d rather win a natty then a beat a scrub team like Bichigan
That's why rivarly games are good for. Make each other better. The loss hurts still hurts, but let's win the natty.
13-10. We made them better. Just like Bo made Woody better.
main character syndrome
The real tragedy here is that the only undefeated team didn't get a home game. These playoffs are a joke.
Ohio States problem was t that it didn’t matter. It mattered too much to those players and coaches and even the fans. It has for the last 3 years now
Maze and blue is the heart beat of college football we're taking it All this coming year you heard it first here..
We Are ... PENN STATE !!
Jerry Sandusky U
Michigan fan here… at this point I am rooting for the Buckeyes to win the championship. Please don’t let an SEC team win.
That would be a big fat yes!
If Ohio st win the natty, next years game will be the biggest most explosive game ever! The last 2 national champs! In Ann Arbor! It will be the most watch game in college football history!
Grit plus heart can out due talent sometimes
It is possible now, with the big ten doing away with divisions and the top two teams play in the championship game, to see michigan and osu play three times in a single season. They meet in the last week as undefeated teams, both make the big ten championship game the next week, and the records after that put both into the playoff, and they could meet again there
I respect Rich, when asked, .."Would have rather lost to OSU, than have them win a natty". Him sayin NO..is the same answer id give (as a staunch Buckeye fan) if the rolls were reversed. (OSU out Mich in)
Kudos to Rich. Don't give up yer pride.
What position does Rich play?
The commentators of that Ohio Michigan game along with Ohio State fans were questioning why Chip Kelly kept running the ball instead of throwing it. We all saw it including Ray and Steve wonder.
Very suspicious plays if you ask both parties ( Commentators and Buckeye Fans) watching the game unfold
