Floor can sing like an angel, growl like a demon, and do every singing style in between, and in multiple languages. Marco is also an awesome bassist/guitarist/lead and background singer. They work so great together. Also you might want to check out Floor's other bands. After Forever, and ReVamp. They show off a different, more metal side of her.

It's Floor "Yansen," as we would pronounce it.
Emppu is an amazing guitarist. He plays exactly what the song needs, never over the top. He is a true class act. Plus, he's a total character. Super funny and plays around a lot.
One of the things that I love about this band is that they all do what is needed in service of their music without having to be in the spotlight.

Kai is a fantastic drumner, but I love how much emotion Jukka puts into his drum playing. Especially how he beats his kit in this song..,it's like they owe him lunch money😂

This concert is one of the all time classics. Almost every detail was perfection, and the emotion, enjoyment, and attitude tge whole band has throughout EVERY SINGLE SONG of the entire 15 song set is phenomenal!
You can see how much they enjoy what they're doing, love each other, and love their fans the entire time.
IMO, any song played at this concert is the ultimate edition with Floor as the frontwoman, no need to look elsewhere.

This song is pure energy and the Floor's and Marko's power duet at the end is mind blowing. You are absolutely right: forget the genres and search the talent. Take care!
A little bit about Erno (Emppu) Vuorinen the guitarist, he's super talented, he writes his own solo stuff, where as Tuomas (keyboardist/band leader/founder) writes nearly all of the music and lyrics.
He's is also the band joker, grinning like a midget Cheshire cat all the time and playing practical jokes on stage like turning down Floor's in ears behind her mid song (apparently she got him back by replacing his Corona with Apple juice which he hates), he's also our little Hobbit due to his diminutive stature (he's just over 5ft next to Floor's 6ft and Tuomas at 6.1)
There's a lot of skill and lovable personality packed in that little package and no ego. He rarely does interviews and leaves that to Floor, Marko and Tuomas.
As for Floor, what can we say.
She's a one in a generation vocalist and personality.
Emppu Vuorinen is original Nightwish bandmember. Emppu have also medal from Nordic Championship of Judo, but how he said, music safe him from sports ...
In Weak Fantasy (Live from Tampere) You will se Tuomas headbang like f-in berzerk.

If you want to hear more Marko and more guitar, you should react to their cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes"
You don't have to listen to it every day. If it brings a smile to your face it did its job. And it appears to have done that.
Glad to see you back with us, and expanding your musical tastes in the best way. It's nice that you've picked up on Emppu's greatest strength as the band's guitarist: his restraint. He doesn't show off all his licks 'n' tricks, doesn't overplay, doesn't try to impress the audience at the expense of the song. Everything he plays is exactly right, and serves the song, not his own ego. He's playing with the band, not to his amplifiers. He CAN shred, but if the song doesn't call for it he won't, and never shreds for shredding's sake.
My next three suggestions (all from Wacken 2013, which is the introduction point for most Nightwish listeners) are:
"Dark Chest Of Wonders" - opens the show, with all the energy you'd imagine. Grabs 82,000 people in a few seconds' time.
"Ever Dream" - my personal favorite, plus a fine guitar solo from Emppu. The perfect blend of Beautiful and Fierce.
"Storytime" - from their second singer's time with the band. Incredibly catchy, and Floor makes it her own. Begs the question:
WHY THE HELL ISN'T NIGHTWISH ALL OVER THE RADIO IN AMERICA ? ? ! ! !
And also begs the corollary question:
WHY THE HELL IS ALL THIS OTHER CRAP ALL OVER THE RADIO INSTEAD ? ? ! ! !

You know what's really crazy?
Romanticide started 55 minutes in.
Ghost love score started 70 minutes in.
And "Song of Myself" was AFTER "Ghost Love Score", and was still delivered so powerfully and excellent.

I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about Floor's voice. To be honest, she's not unique to this world with her pipes, there are a few singers with similar voice. What makes her unique is her PASSION for the music. She lives in the music and the music lives in her. She can transmit all her feelings like nobody else. That's why you feel the songs so lively, that's the secret of Floorgasm.

@@timometsanoja9666 Tampere 2015, according to the credits at the end of the video. Tampere for the effects, Wembley (also 2015) for the special guest. Tampere for whistles, Wembley for e-bow. He should just do both, that would be one heck of a double-reaction. Ridiculously long, but seriously amazing.

@@MsCatstaff I think I somehow mix up this with Troy officially joining the band in 2016... He was a big part of the 2015 album, if I recall even this correctly, but he was added as an official band member in 2016. In all honesty, I haven't had the time nor energy to follow Nightwish all that well through the Annette & Floor years. So things are a little hazy for me. I try to own up to my mistakes when I realize I've made some.

You went through the event horizon, there's no turning back. It's going to keep pulling you deeper in.
You've only seen the very top of the Nightwish iceberg. No two songs are the same, and Tuomas seemd incapable of writing a bad one, so prepare to be constantly amazed for a while.

Tuomas- founder, keyboardist, composer of 97% of all songs including lyrics and all orchestral and choir parts prerecorded by the London Philharmonic orchestra and choir under his direction.
Marco- bass/vocals
Emppu- guitar
Troy- pipes, winds, vocals and guitar
Jukka- drums
Floor- vocals
The "J" is pronounced like a "Y" like in "YES".. so Floor Jansen and Jukka.
Fun fact: Floor wasn't an official member of Nightwish at the recording of this concert in 2013. She was filling in as a favor because the singer quit in September 29, 2012. Floor walked onto the stage with Nightwish for the first time on October 1, 2012 in Seattle, Washington. She had only 48 hours to learn the set and recovering from burnout at the time. When she got the call, she was in a band called ReVamp.
After this concert at the Wacken Music Festival in Germany in 2013, Tuomas visited Floor and offered her the gig permanently on October 9, 2013. The news was made public on November 29th along with the release of the Wacken DVD.

Tim.....Great reaction, thank you.The hook has been set, now Nightwish is reeling you in. Floor Jansen ( Yansen ) can sing anything she wants to....From Phantom and Shallow to metal. In six or seven languages, a once in a lifetime talent. Give "Ghost River", "Song Of Myself", " Story Time' or "Dead Boys Poem". Keep it live with this band.

There is a reason for Nightwish to be a tight group of musicians. Though, as you said, the band is new to you, their career began in 1996 and you get a lot of practice in when you’ve played for 26yrs (21yrs in the case of the video you just reacted to).
Btw, you did pronounce Floor Janssen’s name correctly. As something for you to look up, that won’t give you any spoilers that’d ruin your reactions, Floor is the band’s third female lead singer. If you ever play “The Poet and the Pendulum,” (as fans are sure to suggest) the replacement of their original singer is at the heart of that epic song. Be prepared. How Floor joined the band is interesting enough to have spawned a documentary: “Learn This Setlist In 48 Hours.” You can find it on UA-cam.

Emppu's solo here is one of his best. He slays it.
One thing newer Nightwish fans don't realize is that their early stuff had a LOT of epic shreds (both guitar and/or keyboard from Tuomas). Almost everything from the Wishmaster album has a shred (Oceanborn has a lot, as well).
One of my favorites is "The Siren" (End of an Era concert); Tarja has very interesting and unique vical sounds, Marco has excelkent vocals, and Tuomas totalky shreds on his orgzn sounds.
They blow me away every performance. They touch my soul in ways I cant describe or put in to words. Floor is just perfection
The effects of Nightwish. Symptoms include (but not limited to) goosebumps, jaw strain (pick it up off the floor), neck pain (from headbanging), arm pain (from fist-pumping), a need to clean up after your Floorgasm, and an addiction to more Nightwish. LOL

Wacken is on the upper end of the audience-size scale but I have lived up here in the north for long enough that I remember when Nightwish was still playing local clubs and pubs. Success right in front of my eyes.

Hi, I have followed Nightwish for some time and for me, Floor is the best vocalist the group has ever had (although there will be someone who thinks otherwise and everyone has their tastes), so any song is good for you to react to it ..... practically all the ones he sings are wonderful ..... "ever dream", "storytime", "i wish i had an angel" .... even "how's the heart" in both normal and acoustic versions ...... "nemo" .... these last two in acoustic are incredible and they are also on youtube to see them ... there you realize how far Floor's voice goes, but always live that is how it sounds best and exploits his great voice and talent on the stage.
I advise you to watch the entire concert wacken 2013, it is also very good, the song "the greatest show on earth" in Tampere (Finland), which is the closing song of the concert that bears the same name, is brutal and lasts almost 20 min.
Floor has a unique voice, although I have to say that from Tuomas to the organ, (who also composes the songs) ... Marco on bass and vocals accompaniment and the rest of the group ... Troy (bagpipes, flute, percussions and acoustic guitar), Kai (drums) and Emppu (electric guitar) know what they do and they sound great and the more you listen to them the more you like them I can assure you.

I'm 60 yrs old and back in my time there was a female singer like Floor. You might have heard of her. Ann Wilson of Heart. She was our Floor. You also had Joan Jett and Pat Benatar but as far as a singing voice Ann had the power and a full vocal range that could pull your emotions from you, much like Floor can.

So, just try Floor Jansen on beste zangers 2019 which is a dutch TV show. Floor was there together with 5 other singers. And say sung songs for each other. There you will find the capability of Floor from Opera, Musical, Pop, and Rock at its best.
I loved your comment about the restrictions imposed by genre labels because I've had a similar experience. I grew up in what is now called Classic Rock. (Of course, back then it was just called rock.) I have sinced learned to find joy a most genres, but Metal was always off the table. I had a stereotype of what "Metal" had become, and I didn't like it. Then I happened on Nightwish and my whole world view was blown out of the water. Now I am exploring, and enjoying, other subgenres of Metal and finding good music everywhere! I've learned that my earlier stereotypical Metal does, in fact exist, but only as a part of a much broader world that I was missing. And even in that subgenre, because I have a much broader understanding of where metal is coming from, I am finding some gems. I'm so grateful to Nightwish for opening my horizons that way!

Marko is a very talented singer. Like Floor, he can sound like an angel, a phantom or the devil himself and quite a few characters in between. Hope you stay on the 'Wish train - you'll meet all these vocal personas behind the two-forked beard.

Floor will sing anything - opera, pop, rock, classical, baroque, folk, metal, metal scream, growl. I may have missed a few but you get the point. And Emppu's guitar is just perfect. He plays entirely without ego, doing exactly what the song needs and no more. Listen to more of Marco's singing. When he and Floor sing together they blend perfectly. The drumming spoke for itself. After this concert Jukka had to leave for health reasons, but he brought in his friend Kai who, although, different, is equally good.
Almost forgot - there is another virtuoso member you haven't seen yet. Troy Donockley is a multi-instrumentalist who tends not to play on the heavier stuff, but his command of the E-bow is pretty legendary. Try While Your Lips Are Still Red, from Wembley Arena to see him.

One song that doesn't get a lot of play but is really crunchy is Dark Chest of Wonders and they opened with it at this Wacken 2013 show. There's nothing better that the start of a show and this one doesn't disappoint. Doesn't take long to get past the opening credits and it's definitely worth catching it all. Goes hard right from the start.
Floor Jansen has lead her own bands in the past. Try "Disdain" by ReVamp at GrassPop festival. She growls and sings operatic in the same song. You'll also see how she commands the stage wherever she performs.

Got a lot of guitar and blast beat with the current drummer from NW (Kai Haito)
The drumming is insane.
Marco's voice is also stellar, but gets overlooked by some people, because Floor is so exceptional. Check out "The Islander" live at Tampere to get a better feel of what he is capable of.
They also have a 6th member. A multi instrumentalist who joined the band at the same time as Floor did. He sings aswell and on their latest album (released earlier this year) they do some wonderfull three voice harmonies. That is also worth checking out, although sadly not live yet.
Song of Myself is also a great song. And another masterpiece is Areyon , The day te world breaks down! You will enjoy that too for sure! great gitars.
That drummer is sooooooo good. Oh Floor is pretty good too.
You can never say enough good things about Floor. You against missed the opportunity to mention Jukka. He is possibly one of the most fierce hard driving drummers anywhere. He literally stalks his kit. Unbelievable, with Ghost Love Score one of my most favorite drum elements. Otherwise, super analysis. Subscribed.

It's dangerous to say a certain genre is not for you. In every genre their are class acts that are just tremendously talented and just transcends the genre. Within symphonic metal the holy trinity would be:
- Within Temptation: least heavy, more pop oriented, more commercial
- Nightwish: All over the place (in a good way). Folk to full on heavy metal with a big dose of cinematic type scores. Some lyrics with deeper messages. Very intricate compositions
- Epica: Very heavy with very contrasting vocals. Clearly the most heavy of the three. Also very intricate compositions and deep meaningful lyrics.
All three bands are class acts with incredible vocals and A+ musicianship.
Floor .. Like Caution *Wet FLOOR !*in a "Supermarket" hehehee .. Stay safe.

You ought to try "Song of Myself." An excellent Nightwish instrumental is "Into the Wilds." The Dutch "J" in pronounced as a Y, and their "a" is pronounced as ah; Yahnsen.
Check out "Vilja Lied" (Veel-yuh Leed, Vilja's Song in German) from the Dutch singing competition TV show "Beste Zangers," which she won last year.

May be you like to check out "Slaying the dreamer." But my advice: Check out the 2009 version from the End of an Era concert. It's way better than any other. (That's my opinion)
