    Only gimmick I want on a tape measure is a GPS locator so I can find it when I set it down.

    As a plumber who works with cast iron this tape is very useful. I got this tape for my worker who seems to forget to charge his headlamp a lil too often. We had our Chopsaw stationed in an area with no lighting. This tape worked out perfect for making cuts in the chopsaw station.
    Don’t use this tape on a daily basis to have it ion my tool bag more as a backup, my go to measuring tape is lufkin the nite eye version.

    Reach is standout, plus the exptension of your arms. So, if you're using two hands as you're measuring, that includes reach. Standout is just the length on its own without your assistance.

    That’s cool to see Milwaukee and DeWalt are also making LED tape measures now.
    I have a Komelon 25LED, and I’ve found it to be a convenient light source on my tool belt if I need a quick light. Komelon is a Korean company, supposedly created the first LED tape measure, magnetic hook tape measure, and self-locking tape measure. They also have belt clips that are almost identical to Tajima tape measures.
    The Menards near me has the 25LED with imperial measurements, and there’s an imperial/metric version you can find online.

      @ MORGANSMaintenance My first tape measure was a Komelon I picked up at Lowe’s or Home Depot. The 25LED is more robust, but not as durable as Irwin, Stanley, or Crescent.

    I have them all. Kobalt dewalt milwaukee komelon ect. It's funny the komelon is what I would consider the best since it's compact and reasonably priced. For me this milwaukee was a let down in the quality of the tape itself felt cheap compared to my preferred wide blade magnetic (also milwaukee) . The base tape reminds me of the 2pack for $10 holiday special milwaukees. As a tape measure the dewalt though a dim light it fairly usable as a tape measure. Kobalt wasn't my favorite but I liked the blue color lol. Besides thr komelon I would describe these as clunky?!? That komelon if you get it for under 15 is a good deal but the feel and quality of the tajima or wide blade milwaukees can't be beat for a simple wimpy flashlight. I've had this exact flashlight on my work cart for over half a year and it's still not borrowed or stolen? Even my metal Stanley's disappear like hot cakes 😆. I too use finger control never any of this fancy auto lock stuff. If I need light I have a tons of lights to set up even if only temp lighting is around. In apartment turns I bring a handful of 8000lm 300w tri wing lights and put them in existing fixtures (led pulls 80w) more than enough to turn any room into a ufo landing site. Things like the icon or milwaukee flex light I magneticly attach to miter saws ect. I don't think I'll miss having a flashlight on my tape but I sure hope it proves to be more useful to you.

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  4 місяці тому

      I do the same thing with those Tri-wings when I do temporary lighting. They sell a light base with two wires at Home Depot and I have several set up with Wagos. After Rough in I just wire those in with my ceiling boxes temporarily

  • @OnusBones

    Both; a gimmick that is potentially useful. This being version 1.0, I think I will pass (even though collecting flashlights is a hobby of mine). It's huge, and can the battery be replaced when it no longer holds a charge? Version 2.0 will use a 10440 LiFePO4 cell, and that or V2.1 will be USB-C; I'll consider it then. Thanks for the look!

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  4 місяці тому +1

      I agree with you. There are times it would be nice, but I would basically have to save the tape and only use it in those situations. If not it might be broke before those situations come up 😂
      Certain people might could use it every day though, I’m just not one of them.

    Great video and content per usual but my message to Milwaukee is stop wasting money and resources on gimmick stuff like this and just make the existing stuff you have even better with quality control. If you are in the dark or dim lit areas without a edc light or headlamp to begin with then you shouldn’t be allowed to have a tape measure or any tool in your hands to begin with

    If I need to measure something, it usually means I do it to cut/install/fix something. So I need decent light environment to do it properly. Thus led light tape measure is a nonsense. Adding unnecessary complication to a simple, well working device.

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  4 місяці тому +1

      👍👍… generally that is the case for me. I occasionally work in some not so well lit spaces. If it’s a decent size job I will set up lights.

  • @three-phase562
    @three-phase562 4 місяці тому +1

    Not sure about this one, the rate at which tape measures get broken, you are going to have an awful lot of flash lights lying around. Certainly in the UK, the electronics will make them special waste so you can't just throw them in the metal skip then. I think I will sit in the bit of a gimmick party.

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  4 місяці тому

    OHMeGosh Joey, Milwaukee ‘re inventing’ their tape measures once again?!? I tend to agree with others here that this is a gimmick to most, maybe helpful to some? It might be of use to an Electrician in some dark building. I dont know?? 🤔🙄
    Three things against Milwaukee Tape measures: Constant changes of models and styles; (2) What You already mentioned regarding wear; (3) Poor locking mechanism and pocket/ belt clip.
    If someone needs 1/8” markings on their tapes, they probably need to just put it down. I despise those tapes. Oh, Klein has a neat feature that beats this and others out Joey and everyone: Bottom of tape has a small ‘door/ flap’ when pressed up, slows or stops the tape when retracting. Works better than a finger and probably saves getting a nasty cut on a used blade?
    IMHO, It is still hard to beat a well made Stanley, be it a classic chrome, Power Lock, Fat Max, etc. DeWalt tapes are like the bastard child of Stanley, as they all under the same roof. So my list would go something like this:
    (1) Stanley - check the return spring tension!
    (2) Komelon/ Kobalt. Solid value and good quality!
    (3) Some Milwaukee ?
    (4) Lufkin ShockForce G2 Nite eyes (check for spring return and overall QC )
    (5) Klein
    (6) Irwin ?
    Of course, as always, YMMV
    Thanks for great content, MORGAN’s Maintenance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍💪🇺🇸✌🙏

    • @MORGANSMaintenance
      @MORGANSMaintenance  4 місяці тому

      The FatMax has been hard to beat. The ToughBuilt tape I got on clearance has a similar option as what you are saying the Klein has. I’m currently carrying it as my grab and go tape from my truck and like that option better than just the finger.
      I’m pretty rough on my tapes, so I don’t normally go crazy high dollar. They are one of the few tools I don’t treat well 😂
