    We saw two bears at that first site you were at - one at dinner time across the river and one at breakfast the next day. The one across the river ran into the bush when we called out and the one in the morning was swimming across to our campsite but he took off down the shore as soon as he landed. Pretty cool to see them out there.

    Just found your channel love it and it's good to see young ones out enjoying the park. I've been going to the park for over 50 years and still enjoy it . I did that route 2years ago. Cedar lake can be brutal at times. Keep up the good videos. Thank you

    Great video. I was up at Cedar this summer and had a big bear come for a visit. Not long after cooking up my sausages incidentally. I managed to convince him to leave, but it was an interesting first night trying to sleep. Wish I had a least the bear bell. Oh and it was a solo trip. I've been visiting Algonquin for thirty years. First time one got within 10 meters of me. I've seen Moose swim but not a Bear yet. Lucky you two.

    Even a air horn really helps getting the bears out away from your camp . And there not expensive and can be used if you ever need attention. And can be used several times. FYI. 🇨🇦👍

    Learn to crack a good old fashioned 10 ft 6 plate leather bull whip, the Indiana Jones style. I've done the camping thing since I was about 7 or 8.

      +wongoal2010 We were definitely on high alert and it took a little while to get to sleep. Years ago, we heard wolves howl during the evening in one direction... and an hour later, were them howl on the other side of camp 😬...I didn't sleep well that night!

      Nice! Highly recommend a yoke / shoulder pad to ease the weight of the canoe - even ultra lite canoes can be a little hard on the shoulders on longer portages. I think they sell for about $16 Cdn at MEC and other outdoor retailers :)

    So late watching this one, but that bear was just adorable. I would have probably tried to approach it, my idiotic animal-loving self haha.
    That tree definitely looks like it was hit by lightning. Good thing you guys weren't at that nearby site. Your ears would be a little less functional ha.

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  8 років тому +2

      +Hi I'm Alan Haha, yeah I'm usually more concerned about the wolves howling off in this distance... they're usually not an issue if you take the right precautions, though in the last 40 years, 5 people have been stalked and killed by bears in the park, so we always come prepared with bear spray, bells, and a Personal Locating Beacon that can notify Search & Rescue via satellite.

    • @alanweak
      @alanweak 8 років тому

      Chris Prouse Oh geez, that sounds terrifying. Makes me wanna hug that bear a little less.
      I guess if they think you're on their territory, there's nothing you can do but defend yourself. It would kill me to ever have to spray a bear :( haha I'm so weak when it comes to hurting animals (even if they're attempting to rip me apart) haha.

      strangely enough I'm more concern about the wolves than the bears, wolves hunt in packs, I've seen their foot prints in the same area you were in...not small ... I'm glad you were OK...very nice video... you're very talented ...thank you (the wolf MO is that they spread out and hunt and then call the others when they find a meal :-)
