Ever since I started photography a couple of years ago I don't see outdoor activities the same way as I used to, aren't we lucky to be living in Canada, being able to enjoy the scenery is priceless. Watching your videos makes me think more about my surroundings and trying to capture them in any possible way (stills or video) and leaving no footprint but a lot of quality prints once I get home after being out (lol!!!). Now if I can only only get my hands on a G85 (lol!!!). Thanks again for sharing this wonderful Video.

Thank you! Glad to hear! The individual campsites actually don't have their own designations or names - each night you book your lake and then the sites are first-come-first-serve. If you take a look at "Jeff's Map" of Algonquin Park (it's a free online PDF map with more detail), and navigated to the approximate dots on our map, you'd be able to see them while paddling from the canoe :)

You might want to try out some BioLite products on your next trip. great for cooking whilst generating energy from fire - useful for evening lights or re-charging all those batteries !! I have a Basecamp and love it to bits, but the Campstove 2 with grill and coffee press would be awesome for a trip like yours. If you catch some fish on the way then less need to take so much heavy food also. Great vids, please keep inspiring the rest of us who are not so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful :)
Having done this trip a few times, the portage from Burnt Island Lake over to Otterslide Lake is not easy.....with many rocks on portage, boardwalks, and HILLS!!! I have yet to see an otter on Otterslide Lake. I spent my honeymoon on Big Trout Lake.....which was where I met my bride to be way back in 1966.
Is that the soundtrack from the original 70's movie Shaft? Anyway, makes good canoeing music... Very soothing to watch and nice to see a travelogue that is not constantly updated with useful info like 'now we are putting the tent up' ' now we are here' and 'now it is dark' etc. Like your work! T

Since I have come to learn there is a 28 min recording limit on the eu versions, does yours suffer this?also can you recommend a suitable SD card for this camera, maybe something you use? Thanks
Hey Phil, congrats and thanks for subscribing! To my knowledge, I don't think the GX85 sold here in Canada has the limit... though I rarely record anything longer than 20 minutes. The wireless Panasonic app has been awesome for starting / stopping clips to keep file sizes down when I'm recording myself too. I'm currently using some SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB SDXC cards, which are 95MB/s, U3, Class 10, and have been great for filming in 4K - hope this helps! :)

Thanks Brian! You're entirely right - it does raise the centre of gravity and makes it a little more tippy. We tend to take little snack breaks out on the water, so we just find it's easier to pop it open when it's upright. The other heavy pack in the bottom of the canoe is about the same weight, so it helps offset it a bit :)

This place is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us! Are the portage trails "cart friendly"? I have a 90 pound fishing kayak that I'd likely die if I tried to solo carry above my head. I'd love to try this place.
Some of the portages near the access points are definitely cart friendly - the portage we did on the first day would be great, though some of the ones in this video would be tricky. I believe there's a 14km cart trail at the 23rd access point on Lake Travers, which can take you to White Partridge Lake, which is pretty deep in the park :)

Thanks Alessandro! No prob - the bugs are usually gone by mid-to-late August, and we only saw a few when we filmed this trip in September. We also enjoy camping during early May, just before they start getting bad towards the middle of May. You should totally go for it! :)
I will be doing my first backcountry Kayak trip into Algonquin the first week of August 2022. I am only backcountry camping for 1 night on Burnt Island Lake and am departing from Tea Lake Campground. Is it doable to get up to Burnt Island Lake from Tea Lake in a day ? Thanks :)
2:38 you could've skipped that portage too- plus you would see lost joe- not many people know about that lake... and it's beautiful and lots of wildlife is there too.
Wow! This was beautiful! I'm still skeptical that you did this in September lol. Looks like summer to me. Great tip on finding portages. I usually try to line up prominent points or islands and sight them that way. I also bring small binoculars just in case (also useful for spotting occupied campsites).
And how amazing to see a lake system with no power boats on it. What a treasure. Every lake I've been to has been covered up with power boats and jet skis.
It works pretty well, though I had to be a little more mindful of our power use - I was going through about 3 full GX85 batteries per day filming in 4K... which was tricky because I only had 3 batteries with me for the camera. I could recharge about 3-4 batteries with the Brunton field battery (which was full at the beginning of the trip), so by day 2 I had to start thinking about filling it back up on solar for filming on day 3... and then just tried to stay ahead of it as best as I could, because we knew some overcast weather was coming :)
worth the wait! really enjoyed it. Forgot to mention on the last one that Julia could use one of these www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/eog-v3-pocket-bellows.html the next time she's trying to blow life into a fire...she'd look a little strange without eyebrows haha

Chris Prouse I think it's definitely time to plan a trip east. There is nothing like this (sort of) in Alberta.
You should go for it! Early May (before the bugs hit), and August onwards are the best times to go :)
You might want to check out Lakeland Prov Park near Lac La Biche. No Algonquin but very good paddling for Alberta

And how amazing to see a lake system with no power boats on it. What a treasure. Every lake I've been to has been covered up with power boats and jet skis.

How well does that solar charger work on the GX85 batteries?
It works pretty well, though I had to be a little more mindful of our power use - I was going through about 3 full GX85 batteries per day filming in 4K... which was tricky because I only had 3 batteries with me for the camera. I could recharge about 3-4 batteries with the Brunton field battery (which was full at the beginning of the trip), so by day 2 I had to start thinking about filling it back up on solar for filming on day 3... and then just tried to stay ahead of it as best as I could, because we knew some overcast weather was coming :)
