- The lyrics to Blue Sky Mine.
Hello UA-cam, I'm aware the lyrics are not correct in the video. To offer some context, I was in middle school when I made this video. I made it as a tribute to the band and to my father, who introduced me to the music. Since this was one of my first videos, I made many mistakes, including determining the lyrics by listening and writing down what I heard. I'm very sorry about the mistakes.
Over the past 11+ years, commenters continue to let me know that the lyrics in the video are incorrect. I will paste the hopefully correct lyrics here in the description.
Hey, hey, hey, hey
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
Hey, hey, hey
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
My gut is wrenched out, it is crunched up and broken
My life that is lived is no more than a token
Who'll strike the flint upon the stone and tell me why?
If I yell out at night there's a reply of blue silence
The screen is no comfort, I can't speak my sentence
They blew the lights at heaven's gate and I don't know why
But if I work all day on the blue sky mine
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
Still I walk up and down on the blue sky mine
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
The candy store paupers lie to the shareholders
They're crossing their fingers, they pay the truth makers
The balance sheet is breaking up the sky
So I'm caught at the junction, still waiting for medicine
The sweat of my brow keeps on feeding the engine
Hope the crumbs in my pocket can keep me for another night
And if the blue sky mining company won't come to my rescue
If the sugar refining company won't save me
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
But if I work all day on the blue sky mine
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
And if walk up and down on the blue sky mine
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
And some have sailed from a distant shore
(And the company takes what the company wants)
And nothing's as precious as a hole in the ground
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
I pray that sense and reason brings us in
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
We got nothing to fear
In the end the rain comes down
In the end the rain comes down
Washes clean the streets of the blue sky town
my favorite band from down under....since the scream in blue and i'm pretty far from Australia :)
wish our ministry of environment had someone like Peter Garret...
"I hope the crumbs in my pocket will keep me for another night!" Best lyrics EVER written!
"And nothing's as precious as a hole in the ground."
Second best lyrics EVER written!
My DEAR Brother Joseph…😑(breathing, calm)…
😐 (relaxed, focused)…
I’m afraid it pains me to say that, regardless of our financial OR social status, that be EXACTLY what we work our ASSES of every day until the day we…cease to draw breath-
“A hole 🕳 in the ground” complete w/ a coffin ⚰️ or urn ⚱️ to store our mortal remains in, & THEN…😄…
…wait for it‼️‼️‼️…
…one of them pretty little “🪦” just to show the rest of the world that we DID matter, that we WERE HERE…🧐‼️‼️‼️
Cant play this song loud enough. One of the most powerful and emotional pop songs ever created. In its essense this masterpiece is designed to smack us up side of our heads to change life for the better. And I say that for free.
One of the sweetest endings to such a rough message: in the end, the rain cleans up all the crap, and we have nothing to fear.
+Jonathan Vernot Except he's wrong. In the end, we die, and the crap is left for future generations.
"there'll be pay in my pocket tonight" are the correct lyrics
Good ear...and the last line...in the end, the rain c o m e s down...not falls.
No worries on errors..music speaks for itself..Good Work!..love this band..thank you!
Ta! enjoyed this.
Ta! enjoyed this.
"to scream is no comfort, i can't speak my sentence"
Ever notice the really memorable songs, or bands are usually speaking of things which are bigger than them, thanks for sharing these lyrics. A voice that needed to be heard and will forever be remembered! Loveit4sure
God i miss the oils, what an amazing band
Powerful piece of music. Songs like this that have something important to say are songs that hopefully keep us on the straight and narrow path...and make us aware of what big companies really care about.
Beautiful message. The Wittenoom Tragedy, how the heck did all those executives escape life sentences in jail?
Same here in Libby Montana in the states.
Money!
Well in my Hometown a mine tunnel burned because of the gases the engineers closed the level with miners inside no one said anything against the company ...
Still have this cassette!
One of the most meaningful lyrics in a song, well done MO!
one of the best political songs, period!
Opposite of politics, this is a truthful song. Politics is all false, emotional and decisive rhetoric devoid of truth.
I feel alive. Thank you Peter Garrett and mates.
Wonderful 1990 classic!!!
Some word may be wrong but the messge is clear. Big companies never care about the people who keep them operating. The struggle goes on everywhere. Sad but mankind's inhumanity to mankind is a hard and cold truth.
Greed is a sin for a reason.
This song is breath taking I 've listened it for more than years...ohhh my God and only now I understand .....thanks for posting!!
I like this because this song applies to every job out there, including mine.Awesome.
Wow there's a hint of Jagger in that lead singer's voice.
"to scream is no comfort, i can't speak my sentence"
love it... brings back emotional memories.
I AM A CONSERVATIVE, WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE.........I GREW UP IN A STRONG UNION FAMILY. GRANDPA WAS A "RADICAL" UNION BOSS, AND I LOVE MY UNION PATRIOTS!!!!! I ALSO HAVE A STRONG SOCIAL CONSCIENCE...........THIS SONG REPRESENTS HOW TORN I AM, BETWEEN THE 2 !!!!!!!
No matter the politics, just ask yourself this question: What is good for the people? Follow that thought and you can live with a clear conscience
Self reliance.
When you work as a team for a boss, self-reliance become a blurred line.
no worries, the meaning of the song is still there. Midnight Oil rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Realidade do povo Brasileiro.kkk.. Vc é, o que vc, tem em seu bolso...!!!
Lembra a Samarco, Hydro e Vale
And I always thought he was saying "Indiana rain comes down".
Indiana? Australia? I couldn't find a connection.

What they are saying is that when it comes to money, everybody is expendable.Including you and me.Think about it.My02. Love this song.
Large companies use their workers as cannon fodder. Dow, Dupont, Monsanto, John's Manville, W.R. Grace and many more

Great song about corporate greed that very much applies to what's going on today.

Great Song. My politics lean a different direction than the songwriters, but when you make an intelligent argument I can certainly respect it.
Great memories!
Que letra y que canción tan impresionante !...Muchas gracias por tomarse el trabajo.😉
I feel sad for those people that got cancer from that rock dust 😭😭😢😨😪😥😱😰😱
Now all that repeats in Brazil
Why are the rich so greedy for more money, even though it can cost countless people their lives? Rich and corrupt people, hear what I say. You'll stand before God your Judge, someday!
90´s classic I love this song

I'm sorry for the mistakes! I should have looked it over a few more times back in 2008!
Badass lyrics
The miners were obviously worse off. The second wave was the builders - etc. that used the products -often with high levels of dust.
Ta! enjoyed this.
Actually it's " pay in ya pocket tonight"

Nothing's as precious as a hole in the ground.... we're all heading there.
hifrommes...love its thanks lots
i always thought he was saying who's gonna shave me.
me too!
+Sir Winston Lennon It blew my mind when I read the lyrics for the first time and saw it wasn't "shave".
Anne R. Tremblay is that because of the Australian accent? I thought that he was saying "shave me" when I heard in my cassete in 90's
Fabricio, odd that you mentioned cassette. This album was the very last cassette I bought before CD players started becoming affordable. And yes, the cassette was blue!
AuSHHHtralian accent... lol
no worries, the meaning of the song is still there. Midnight Oil rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel sad for those people that got cancer from that rock dust 😭😭😢😨😪😥😱😰😱
thanks I am doing a assignment on this song and with watched this video at school ty
well good luck with that and your finals this song sums up much of the plight of people working in dangerous conditions hoping just for a meal ticket i remember being in OZ when i was younger just as a struggling musician but needing some work of course luckily i found some kindness and support!! great song great band!!
Massa
yah baby nice
I remember the blue cassette
Noice
I burst out laughing when I saw that the lyrics originally said "they'll be food on the table tonight". I understand the miners were overworked and were in unsafe conditions, but I never knew people ATE them.
clarkem It's a typo.
Yes, I realise that. I thought it was an awesome one. :)
yep super lyrics
The lyric is "pay in your pocket" not "paying your pocket", YOU get paid, not your pocket.
Ye great song end great jobb whith the lyrics
Siempre encontré llamativo el sonido de esta banda, pero ahora que me enteré de que era la banda favorita del haker antimilitaristas Julián asangge, mis respetos.
this reminds me of the 1990 stanley cup finals for some reason
" They'll be paying your pocket tonight" doesn't make any sense. It should be " There'll be pay in your pocket tonight"
Actually, it works either way. It's all good... except for what these precious people went through, and now many of them are dead. If the Companies of this World know that there's a big problem like Asbestos, or whatever, and they take no steps to insure the safety of their workers, then the rich and corrupt are nothing but murderers! There'll be a day, though, when they answer for their crimes. God will be the ONE that they answer to! Rest Assured, though, that they won't get away with this!
@@ronaldshank7589 All the more reason to get the lyrics right.
to scream is no comfort
Wow there's a hint of Jagger in that lead singer's voice.
I feel sad for those people that got cancer from that rock dust 😭😭😢😨😪😥😱😰😱
"to scream is no comfort, i can't speak my sentence"
the most depressing upbeat tune I've heard
+Jeffrey Bottrell What about Girlfriend in a Coma?
+Darin London At least it's one more quiet woman.
Bizarre Love Triangle.
Hey, hey-hey hey
