  • Welcome to the Renaissance Fair!
A Renaissance faire or festival is a unique outdoor weekend gathering. Some are “pop-up” events hosted by local organizations, such as a fund-raiser. The largest “renn fairies” are permanent for-profit theme parks with a season-long schedule. The idea behind the fair is to recreate a historical setting for fun and education.
Here's a quick history of where Renaissance fairs came from and what you can expect when you visit one.
A few related questions we will answer here and in up-coming videos...
How should I dress for a Renaissance fair?
    How do Renaissance festivals work?
What can I expect at a Renaissance Faire?
What do you do at the Renaissance Fair?
Why is it called a renaissance fair?

I worked many years at the Minnesota Renaissance Fair with my best friend selling his pottery. It is a blast to immerse yourself for an entire weekend (for several weeks in a row) in the theater of the fair. But, the fun didn’t stop when the fair stopped. Many, if not most, players kept up the illusion throughout the run, even after hours. Mead drinking, feasting, blowing glass, firing a kiln at night we’re all part of the fun. I do miss those days and the people therein.

And since about 2015 there is a small primitive faire out near Kilgore. We make a point in attending all or the Texas Ren Faire's. I've known some of the vendors for years, run into folks I know all over the country. Ren Faire's are like visiting with old familiar friends.

Our fair here in Texas is the biggest, according to the owner. We are getting married on Scottish weekend, highland fling weekend, we are going full men in kilts for this! We even got a outlander cake topper! My husband will be wearing a MacKay family Crest pin we bought from you this year, he loves it, thank you!!! People at texas renaissance festival take the Scottish weekend very seriously, they do the highland games & a men in kilts beauty contest!

Sterling, NY Ren Fest is by far the most immersive and authentic. The village of Warwickshire is magical. It gives a true sense of going back in time. So many wonderful memories there. And the village players are always wonderful. If you have enjoyed any other Renaissance fair you must go there sometime.

I've been to GA RenFest down in Fairburn twice, once during the pirate weekend and once during the Highland fling weekend. Both times were absolutely brilliant, and I'm working to figure out a schedule to make the most of the next time I go. I see a lot of mixed themes in costumes no matter what weekend I go, but it's always a good time. I saw a lot of great kilts and, regrettably, a lot of men wearing sashes with their modern kilts this past festival. Much more fantasy than actual history in my estimation.

PARF has been adjusted to nine weeks rather than thirteen this season. The faire plans to run from Sept 5th through Nov 1st. All tickets must be purchased online for a particular day. There will be no ticket sales at the gate on the day of the event. Also, there are limited tickets available each day and it's likely they will sell out. I suggest you go to the website and read the info posted.

we got something similar in Europe but the one in it are usually history lovers and never never never tell them they have costumes! They often look down on people who dress up in fantasy style things as they feel it takes away what they are trying to do (often really expensive, extensive historical researches even with archeologist and historians no kidding). I have seen a few that often reenact real middle battles (well in Europe we got real castles and i am from a country which has the most of them but not the most impressive in my opinion )

Hi Pringle! 2 quick things... 1) there's nothing wrong with being gay, even if YOU aren't gay. 2) they're your parents and they love you. Just tell them that you want to try wearing a kilt and explain why you want one. They'll probably understand and if not, use your own money & buy it yourself!
