Excellent tutorial for those wanting to get into detailing. I started seasonal detailing in my driveway of my first house chasing the shade. We bought a brand new "zero mileage" house in 1997 with a basic two car garage. in 2011, we took a garage bay, converted it to a new entryway and laundry room, and added a new garage bay. My wife got her 1st floor laundry room, I got a fully drywalled, heated and insulated garage to detail out of. Win win!
I love your comments on keeping your costs down. I think that is so true in business but seems to be a bigger issue in the detailing world. So many people have an ego about what products they use and how "professional" they are instead of working towards profitability and what the customer wants. Most customers don't know and don't care what you are using as long as they get the result they feel they should get. Free marketing like Facebook posting, Nextdoor posting, word of mouth, and Google My Business, is really key. Great stuff dude!
Appreciate you fred! I made all these mistakes brought the expensive soap, the expensive polisher blah blah blah and lost money end of the day get your business figured out, buy stuff that is affordable and gets the job done then expand
This video was on point! Great job brother. You are an inspiration for all of us weekend-warriors grinding it out. You can't get where you want to go in life unless you take that first step towards it, and once you do momentum will carry you as far as you want to go! Maybe someday I'll break down and buy a shed to put all my kids stuff in rather than having it visible in all my videos 🤣. Next house will definitely have a dedicated shop for sure!
Just checked out your website, it’s on point. Very professional. I started detailing in 1990 as a kid and have been doing it as a hobby ever since. Enjoy your content along with everyone else’s. I coated the wife’s vehicle Saturday and will remind her what a great hubby I am based on your prices 😉
Great tips bro. Important thing you said be official and get insured. Everyone starts somewhere you were giving coatings out in churches I was Coating my family vehicles learning to paint correct and eventually people starts coming.
I LLC this month. Nervous to start but excited. Your videos help alot pal keep em comin. Hearing your story gives other people hope that they can succeed too. Cool that you got your kids involved too... my son is picking up a polisher already and he's 9 lol Appreciate you and what you do. 💯
Eddie thanks for this video.... love it i build a shed in my yard. 18x24 i do have a mobile van but use it only for house carpets, and couches do a detail here and there but rather do the detail at home where I have all my heavy tools..... i post most of my stuff on Facebook that's where I got all my clients and word of mouth now all my customers that i have is return customers.... this video is fire 🔥 Eddie much respect to you
This is great information, Eddie. I had a huge struggle with pricing. I've polished cars since 1998, even won awards with clients for "best paint", or similar, but I always feel like I should be PAYING THEM for the fun of polishing their vehicles. I'm over it now though!
Pricing is that one piece alot of detailers struggle with - I generally ask them if they can tell me what a wash costs them per car? Or what your true cost of a paint correction, time, product etc all that has to be considered
Excellent video. Applying for my LLC this weekend! I'll get with you about a website if thats okay. Also I already spoke with my insurance agent. I work for a large company in town . I can get clients at work aplenty.( 1500 employees) . Thanks for all you're doing for the detailing biz.
I can guide ya but detailers road map , in the future when to ur business is thriving would be the best bet. If your just starting out use wix, divi theme with Wordpress or elementor
How to handle a potential customer who thinks its odd to come to a persons house for detailing? I had a business before but i lived in a huge subdivision so it wasnt really a big deal. Ive since moved and now Im struggling to start again cause im skeptical people would travel to drop their car off at my house ?
Hey man start a google my business Post on Facebook and trust in your self before this bigger garage I had a 386 sqft garage And I got quality expensive cars I treated it like a business make it neat cleaned the space and sold the value of what we did Make the space detailing specific
Great Video. The one thing I will say is for those that can't clear out their garage completely, ensure that there is a demarcation zone in the garage that shows the split between business and personal. This is highly important if there was ever a tax audit performed by the county tax accessor. Another tip is yes start out with what you can afford, but make sure you know how to use the equipment and chemicals before working on someone else's car. Insurance is important but it is also important not to need to use it at the beginning @Ecdetails Have you considered doing a video on starting your own product line for your detail business?
Apologizes for the sound on 8min mark thought I equalized it #newbie
