In this edition of Tarikh, Divyanshi Talks about India’s role in the Soviet Afghan war. In 1979 Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan Which led to a decade of war between Soviets and Mujahideens. America with help of Pakistan provided arms and funds to the Mujahideen fighting the soviet army which brought pakistan into the centre of geopolitics. The Soviet Union tried to persuade India to support the Soviet side but Indira conducted some tough negotiations and earned some credit for its arms import. Also during the war Indira tried to persuade Zia-Ul-Haq to join India led Regional strategy but he refused?
