Tarikh Episode 385
Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of the last Nizam Nizam Mir Barkat Ali Khan Siddiqi Mukarram Jah, Asaf Jah VIII.
He was born to Mir Himayat Ali Khan alias Azam Jah Bahadur in 1933 in France. His father was the first son of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad before it was merged with the Indian Union in 1948. His mother Princess Durru Shewar was the daughter of the last Sultan of Turkey Sultan Abdul Mejid II. Mukarram Jah aka Asaf Jah VIII was crowned as the titular 8th Nizam of Hyderabad after the death of his grandfather in 1967. He was once considered the richest man of India. He stayed at Teen Murti Bhavan in New Delhi for a short while and briefly served as an honorary aide-de-camp of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Last Nizam married an Australua woman to come Western Australia which is western half of whole Australia. He purchased rural sheep farm. Still there are many sheep and cattle sations with hundreds of hectors land. I was in Perth when lawyers from India came to meet him and it was all in news papers. I had visited Hydrabad as a student and amazed at Salar Jung III Museum. Indian Rajas were richest but their Praja was very poor everywhere. Once I was wandering in shopping centre in Perth where I saw Nizam quietly sitting simple clotjes alone on a bench. Nobody recognised him and he also wanted anonymity. Anyway, Australian people don't care anybody! Nizams always kept close relations with Turkey. They always married Turkish princess and later any European girls(who took divorce and became wealthy). So their mothers were Turkish. They were more Turkish than Indians. They couldn't move their property oversees from India. Indira Ganthi was absolutely correct to stop Privey Purses of all Maharajas. Many went broke! There was no cadh flow so they made palaces into hotels. Privey Purses were British political move to take over their princely states. All rajas were half educated, had no understanding of racially superior and advanced white Europeans. One can't believe now, how can a simple trading 'Company' could takeover states, one by one from Afghanistan to Burma in less than hundred years and made India! Either Company was too clever or Maharajas too foolish!!😀🤔

Wrong choice for the 8th nizam, someone who grew up among the masses of Hyderabad should have been the ideal choice like Hasim Jha or someone else, last but the most important factor is the bringing of turkish ladies who didn't want to stay in Hyderabad or had any affinity with the ppl here and they passed this mentality to their children..

Nizam VII donated 500 kg worth priceless gold coins to National Defence Fund publicly at Fateh Maidan Grounds to PM Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1965 after the Indo-Pak war. I was present there as a teenager that evening on the ground. Later Fateh Maidan was rechristened as Lal Bahadur Stadium. Nizam is unnecessarily depicted as a miser, he lived frugally. Mughal Badshah Aurangazeb too lived a simple lifestyle. His grave at Aurangabad is the simplest for a mighty Mughal king. Aurangjeb left a will that his grave should be simple, like that of a Fakir.
No! In 1965 war did not donate a single paisa in Defence Fund. When he was asked to donate money in Defense India Fund he said - I am too poor to contribute any money towards Defence India Fund. At this one gentle man sent him a money order of ₹2 to meet his expenses. In 1965 I was serving in CBRI, Roorkee after doing graduation in 1963. I joined CBRI in 1964.
