    We need a version of this for the Switch. Unfortunately, Activision is I my interested in releasing games loaded with micro transactions or free to play garbage. The games blew away 95% of what Atari was putting out for the 2600 at the time. I have this for the psp as well. I still play it quite frequently for some high score chases.

      I read online there's a few game differences between different platforms. What's your favorite game to play on here? And I totally agree Activision was better for sure. I thought about looking into the Midway Arcade compilation as well.

    Ahhh man the little stereo playing the 80’s music…the tunes from back then bring back the fun times playing Atari and Intellivision at my friends houses. No doubt it’s why they added that.

    In my opinion this is how classic game anthologies should be done. I own quite a few of the ones from Konami, Capcom, and Atari released in recent yrs, but none of them created as memorable a UI as this release.
    Kind of funny that i now have nostalgia for an anthology release which is a collection of older games that i was already nostalgic for 😄

      @KaptainKlassic  2 роки тому +1

      Lol I never really thought about that before but I totally understand. I grew up with Namco Museum Vol. 3 for the PS1 and have a lot of nostalgia for that collection.

    This game turned me onto so much good music as a 12 year old. Squeeze, Wall of Voodoo, Missing Persons. Pretty dope. I felt like it contributed to the vibe of the game, and this game came out before streaming so at the time it was like a free compilation of soundtrack on CD.

    Nice video. I found this compilation by searching collections of Activision Atari 2600 games. I previously had that PS1 release which included 30 games, but the emulation was terrible. So I found this Anthology and searched for a video to see if it was worth it and I really think I'll take it. Thanks for the video. Ah and my favorite Activision game for Atari 2600 console is H.E.R.O. to John Van Ryzin's gem.

    Activision made some good games for the Atari 2600 that were pretty original, namely Frostbite, Keystone Kapers, Seaquest, River Raid, and Hero. But Hero was really meant for the Atari 5200 and Colecovision, because it benefits from a two-button controller (one for the jetpack and one to drop bombs). On the 2600, you're always dropping bombs accidentally every time you land.
    Pitfall was intriguing at first but when I realized I wasn't going anywhere and that the stages were randomly generated, I stopped playing. Compare it to Jungle Hunt, which came out three months earlier in arcades and had different stages and varied gameplay, not to mention you were actually going somewhere and had a mission to rescue your girlfriend from the savages.
    There are other good games by Activision on the 2600, but they're all clones of better games by better developers. Enduro is a clone of Sega's Turbo, Freeway is a clone of Konami's Frogger, Spider Fighter is a clone of Namco's Galaxian, Mega Mania is a clone of Sega's Astro Blaster, Chopper Command is a clone of Williams' Defender, and Kaboom is a clone of Atari's Avalanche.

    • @KaptainKlassic

      Wow thanks for the info. You really know your Activision Atari! Love learning more from fellow fans.

    • @randalgelking7329
      @randalgelking7329 2 роки тому

      How can Freeway be a Frogger clone when Freeway was first
      Also Pitfall's stages ARE NOT randomized & it cant be compared to Jungle Hunt just because each game takes place in the jungle.
      I have NEVER EVER EVER accidentally dropped a bomb (TNT) while landing in Atari 2600 H.E.R.O.

    • @bildo1977
      @bildo1977 2 роки тому +2

      I’d say that Enduro is an improvement over Turbo and Spider Fighter is better than Galaxian. And Robot Tank is a clone of Battlezone, but with some more complex game mechanics (i.e. damage to your tank and changing weather conditions and time of day).

    • @thewingedavenger1007
      @thewingedavenger1007 2 роки тому

      @@randalgelking7329 Thanks for pointing out that Freeway isn't a clone of Frogger. The two games both came out in summer of 1981, so neither came first in any meaningful sense. We know Frogger came out in August because the Japanese keep track of these things, but all we know about Freeway is that it was announced in July. We can assume that they were both released in August.
      But this just makes me wonder why Activision rarely came up with anything that was both original and good. Freeway isn't close to the level of quality that Frogger had, and I'm talking about 2600 Frogger now.
      Pitfall and Jungle Hunt are in the same genre, so yes they can and should be compared. They're both proto-platformers and both make you run and jump over obstacles. The difference is that Pitfall has you going nowhere in a pointless loop, while Jungle Hunt has you traverse four different areas with a clear final goal. Again, Activision was always behind the competition.
      In Hero, pressing down makes you drop a bomb, but pressing down also makes you fly down to the ground. It's literally impossible never to mistakenly drop a bomb.

    • @thewingedavenger1007
      @thewingedavenger1007 2 роки тому +1

      @@bildo1977 Saying that Enduro is an improvement over the legendary Turbo (whether you mean the arcade version or the Colecovision one) is pure blasphemy. It's like saying that California wine is better than Italian wine. Some things are just objective.
      I'm glad you brought up Robot Tank, because that definitely is a better game than Battlezone. But it brings me right back to my original point, i.e. that Activision rarely made a game that was both good and original. They're the most overrated company in history. The best developer for the Atari 2600 was actually Atari, but good look finding anyone who will tell you that.

      @@KaptainKlassic a couple are applicable to a few games. The "Starfield" can be used in MegaMania for a little extra background pizzazz, but some of em make gameplay difficult & a hassle. They included them because they could- it's more "busy work" to find them. I'd do a deep dive on em but I got rid of my disc when I got a 2600 emulator & all the Activision games are on it- in fact I'm about to play H.E.R.O. & prove Mr Avenger wrong about dropping TNT
