FYI the only time I use a reversa tip is for fine finish. the numbering on them is like 4 14. 5 16 they have an even number on the end. Unlike regular tips have numbering like 5 15 4 13.....
Used flip tip once ! Been painting since 1987 . Use only flat tips on interiors and exteriors . And I don't tape anything off or cover much of anything. You and I paint the same glad someone knows what he's talking about.
Great Jerry. I just thought of showing it. For some reason I figured everyone knew.....Then I though hmmmm I wonder if anyone knows this. thanks for letting me know.
Picking up a graco silver plus gun next week off OfferUp. Getting it set up like yours. I’m just a hobbyist painter but have learned a ton from your videos. Thanks Mike
Flat tips all day The trick is to only use a airless for water base,an airless for oil base an airless for laquers etc. And keep all filters clean. Also i use a filter gasket behind the flat tip no clogs at all. Great video and nice silver plus gun❤
Kaden, you will get half the life out of a flat tip vs FFLP/LP tip. Reason? Because you are using DOUBLE the pressure required to atomize the SAME material. With less pressure, you get less over spray, finer finish, and MORE gallons saved. If you sprayed 100gallons out a flat tip vs LowPressure tip you will have material saved at the end of the job in comparison💰
I rarely have a flat tip clog because I double strain the paint to the bucket and use the fine tip filter. I'm going to start buying TriTech flat tips.
Love your content Big Mike. Your the pros pro, much respect 👊. I've heard you make mention on more than one occasion of purchasing flat tips online for $4. Would you be so kind as to share your source? Thank you for all you do.
Fantastic. Just starting out at the young age of 55. Can you make a video of when to back roll exterior and interior?Confusing. Everyone has an opinion of when to. Need to hear it from the expert !
Dude I love you I've been painting for 33 years I'm the only one that knows about exactly what you're going through I still run exactly what you are doing. I'm never going to change because it works reversible tips I just throw them their garbage they burn out quick I hate reversible tips
Probably max pressure. If you used a low pressure tip you’d use half the pressure you normally use, giving you a finer finish, less over spray, and more gallons saved at the end of the day
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! Education costs and some people keep doing the same shit over and over expecting a different outcome. That's the meaning of insanity. I listen to everything. And drop the nonsense. There is Some knowledge being dropped right here. Y'all listening? Class in session. What do you do with the fingers if all you have is a brand new tip? Higher pressure? Any tips? I am free. But listening very closely. Thanks again!!
Thanks for the great content and true pro advice - nothing rings as true as the voice of experience. I can't spend $ for a silver gun right now, but if I use a flat tip in my contractor gun with a gun filter should I run the cone filter without the filter, or would it be better to pull out the gun filter and run only the cone filter, or run both gun filter and cone filter? Thanks!
Hi Mike appreciate the time you take to give us this information can these tips be used in my contractor compact gun as it has the filter in the handle and if so do you still keep the cone filter in the tip of the gun many thanks from the uk
yea you can put the cone filter setup on the contractor gun too. works great. Just that the contractor gun is heavier with that paint in the filter on it.
Hi Mike, great videos, watched a few of yours now and I'm impressed. We've being using reversa tips for a long time but went ahead and ordered all the bits you listed including the flat top guard. The flat tip housing on your gun looks different, where can we get one?? Tried removing the guard from the one you listed but it looks different to yours?? Keep up the good work!
Very good stuff here. I have been painting for over 20 years and never heard of this before. Could you tell me what spray machine you with this gun. I always use a graco 395 airless sprayer. Is it compatible? Thank you.
@@jjarment I pinned a comment they do make them for fine finish but they are really hard to clean. I use a reversa tip for fine finish. Usually I am not worried about overspray when doing that. Most jobs other than cabinets I use a flat tip.
@@mikethepainter I'm surprised you use a reversa tip for cabinets. I have found the spray fan on reversa tips to be awful. I use my flat tips on cabinets and they come out amazing.
What's your opinion on backrolling flat white ceiling color on a new drywall that was backrolled when it was primed? Is backrolling necessary for color application in that scenario? I'm not the best painter and still learning. Painting is always a nice extra for me because I do drywall-everything. Hang, tape and finish. I've reached a level of mastery. Not in painting yet although I'm not bad and get paid to do full houses. I think painting could be more profitable than drywall. Considering maybe just doing painting. I switched to the silver gun setup and was having problems getting the configuration right with the stick washers it was always spitting out the cone filter threads. Still working on it but I'm hoping I get better results then what I currently use which are switch tips. However I did start using double orifice which tips for high pressure not fflps and it's f****** awesome.
Hi Mike. Like your videos. Question for you will flat tips fit on all Graco guns ? I am Scotland and I don’t spray every day but I do have a roof to spray and a few externals walls to coat out. With flat tips I’d be getting less overspray , yeah ?
what is the nut that holds the tip in place called? I appreciate the advice on using flat tips over reversa tips but more explanation of what the parts are called would be helpful. I found the flat tips, the flat tip housing and the filters but need the nut that holds the tip in place
Have you compared the flat tips to low pressure reverible tips? an do you still not use extensions to spray interior new construction i have been because the over spray does bother me in that circumstance and i want to reach the lid from the floor
I have been using this set up for about 3 years now. But today my gun started spitting for the first time. I was using a 415 flat tip and it kept spitting everywhere not just little bubbles but like strings of paint what do I need to do to fix this? It was a brand new 415.
You cannot get the same finish with a flat tip VS FFLP. Reason is because you use HALF the pressure that a flat tip requires. Giving you a finer finish, less over spray, and double the gallons/per Tio in comparison to a flat tip
Probably some Canadian content rule.....Damn government controls everything. Try this website and see if they can send them to you www.paintsprayerslv.com/products/flt-xxx-graco-flat-airless-tips they also have cone filters, housings and all that stuff cheap
Mike you certainly know what you’re talking about, but your opinion is incorrect and not factual. For instance, you did not take into account pressure required to atomize material on a flat tip vs a green tip. The reason one benefits from the green tip is because of the minimal overspray, accomplishing a finer finish = charge more for your work. Also, because you use half the pressure, don’t you expect a longer life and more gallons sprayed out of the tip in comparison to a flat tip that requires double the pressure to spray the same amount of gallons/material?
Also, people use the wrong filters. You’re using a 100mesh filter on your flat tip. I guarantee most people getting tip clogs on their RAC tips are using the SAME filter on the gun & machine that it came with. Your filter is MUCH finer than the average joe, allowing you to perform with less Tio clogs. If people filter to their tip size, that would alleviate the issue you’re bringing up
if you need double the pressure to use a flat tip your over pressuring your tip.....same pressure for each and if your referring to double orifice like 4 14 they do get more overspray than say 5 15. you can do great work for reasonable prices. using flat tips saves time and money.
FYI the only time I use a reversa tip is for fine finish. the numbering on them is like 4 14. 5 16 they have an even number on the end. Unlike regular tips have numbering like 5 15 4 13.....

@mikethepainter Do do you also use the cone mesh filter when spraying with reversa tips?

Yea they work fine on those. But for future use the silver gun is lighter. You no longer need that filter in the gun either.
Is there an easy way to convert the "modern" 7/8ths guns that come with reversa tips to flat tip?
