i have the same machine, i put a different bed in it and installed air assist, love the machine now I use inkscape and k40 whisperer now. Is lightburn alot better?
Sounds like you have a nice setup. In my opinion Lightburn is the way to go! I looked at K40 Whisperer software but waited until the k40 could use Lightburn- I have all 3 license keys for light to run laser diodes, Co2 lasers, and Fiber/Galvo lasers. The controller board uses the $60 version of Lightburn and Lightburn does have a 30 day free trail with all features usable.
I have an omtech k40 but I don't see those first two black wires on mine ,ie going into the power supply . Can u help as this is my second board and nothing works. Laser is saying busy
If your wire colors are different from I have in the video than look for what should be going to the controller board and trace unknown wires back to their source like safety switch wires.
(I have only worked with diode lasers) Why would you need / want to replace the controller board? Will LightBurn not work with the control board that came with the laser? Which version of LightBurn do you need?
The biggest advantage is using the Lightburn software- the version that works with the controller board is $60. In my opinion Lightburn is so much easier to use. There's many neat features including a library that you can building settings for each type of material or engraving look. In my shop everything runs off of Lightburn- I only need to learn one software package for all my laser diodes, Co2 lasers, and Fiber/galvo lasers!
I just purchased the updated MP 40W unit. It's my first laser. Do you recommend using the LB software over anything else that may be free? LB is kind pricey in my opinion, but I'm a newb to the laser hobby. Thx!
Congrats! The version of LB that works with the controller is $60. The larger Co2 machines use the more expensive version of LB. I have all three versions of LB and it's so easy learning/ using on software program for my laser diode, Co2 laser, and Fiber/Galvo laser machines. And yes- I highly recommend using the LB software. I didn't look seriously at the k40 laser until they were options for LB software!
****************************************************************************************************************************************** deffinately use Lightburn. The learning curve is much easier. **************************************************************************************************************************************************
There's 2 things I would check first- 1)does the board light up that it has power 2) can you connect and detect the laser machine with the g-code version of LightBurn (the $60 version)- the DSP version of LB is for the large Co2 machines.
@@hadigherbal3392 I have not ran across that- if I think of anything else to try I'll let you know. Maybe send an email to Monport- it may take 1-2 days to hear back from them, but they'll be able to put an engineer on your service ticket.
few features of Lightburn will not work. The fire/test button....

@@thelaserchannel1 As great as Lightburn is, Lightburn listens to users and maker upgrades regularly

I did this exact installation and now my laser doesn't move can help me to run my laser

@@thelaserchannel1 thanks for replying, the board light on and connect and detect more than 5 times but it's not run
